Marebito is shit and the most boring movie i've ever seen
>anon can't into existentialism
Marebito is not for brianlets, not enough vroom vrooms and bang bangs.
Ignore this anon
Marebito is cool. Really good J-Horror atmosphere and the girl is hot.
When she sees your D
Dark Water
>OOOHHHH MY GOSH IS THAT A HECKING RED BAG NOOOOOO AHHHHHHHH
Dark Water isn't as scary as it is really sad
Cure
>Oh no a young girl is climbing out of the TV how scary!
yes
>omg a hot ghost girl is under my covers with her hands around my cock this is terrifying haha
seriously
The twist in the first movie is that Kayako is just a red herring and its her husband's ghost who's actually the one killing people. So you're actually getting accosted by a middle aged bald Japanese man
YAMEROOOOOOO KURONINGGEN
What the fuck are you talking about that's not true at all. Kayako is literally a vengeful spirit, that's why it's called the grudge
From the second movie onwards that's true. But in the very first one it spells out that the onryo is someone who died in anger and grief. That applies to her husband who mistakenly thought his wife had cucked him and as a result murdered his family. Kayako was more of a victim than an aggressor.
I honestly preferred that interpretation to the later ones where she becomes a ghost slasher villain. Especially the final scene where Kayako comes down the stairs looking like a corpse and then disappears right before her husband appears and looks relatively clean except to reach out to his victim with bloodstained hands.
Watch a Korean horror movie instead

Tomie
oh geez I'd hate to have a Japanese goth chick in my house while I'm incredibly lonely at night haha
PALE WOMAN? AIYEEEEEEEE
It's all bad acting. Just watch a real horror movie like Texas Chainsaw massacre
Texas chainsaw is fucking shit. I genuinely mean that. It's bad.
Anon is wrong about J-horror, but you're even worse. TCM74 is the greatest horror film ever.
It literally isn't, holy shit you actually believe that
LITERALLY
YEAH, LITERALLY
Get better taste.

Whatever gay, it's boring shit with a lame antagonist
AI voice fags, do one of the Knock Knock variant but for Sadako.
Onibaba, guisi(silk),

I thought this movie was the scariest thing ever when I was 12 years old.
I wonder if it's also scary as an adult
Saw part of the remake that scared the shit out of me as a kid. Watched the Japanese one recently and it was spooky but not too bad.

The only thing he did wrong was killing Kobayashi's wife. Everything else was justified
'Senritsu Kaiki File Kowasugi' is a 7 part (and a movie?) amateur mockumentary horror series covering various urban legends and folklore in Japan. Number 1-2 are on a site called kissasian dot pe and numbers 5-7 with english subs are on archive dot org. Not sure about parts 3-4. Finding the entire series in one place doesn't seem to be possible unless there's somewhere I haven't looked. I don't even think there's a physical copy available.
Kwaidan, Hiruko the Goblin, Noroi: The Curse, Evil Dead Trap, House, Kuroneko, One Cut of the Dead, Dark Water, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Mermaid Legend, A Page of Madness, Cold Fish, Gozu, Gemini, Violence Voyager
Guzoo is a really cool short film with awesome practical effects
>cute girl coming out of television
>cute girl appearing under your blanket
TASUKETEEEEEEEEE NIGAMAN
The Grudge and Ringu were the ones that scared me the most and nothing has ever come close after that. Not sure if because they were such a new approach to horror or what.
There's jap horror shorts on Youtube which are pretty cool. There's a handful that are good like one I think was called "The Apartment".
If you still want more "The Locker", One Missed Call and "Teke Teke" are not scary but they're better than any haunted house american horror.
Finally, 0.0MHz is well produced albeit also not scary.
In my opinion the best American horror is sci fi like The Thing, Alien, the Blob, and Invasion of the Bodysnatchers. There's an existential sense of horror there that's difficult to replicate
I agree. Monster of the Week is not bad either if you don't have a good plot to work with (i.e. Splinter) but the best horror movies coming from Hollywood have been indeed sci-fi in my opinion as well.
Pulse is the only great and scary horror movie ever made
