I have heard the mental health facilities in the usa are massive scams. There was a report where they sent people undercover into mental health facilities in the usa and told them to tell staff members they were not insane and the staff members physically restrained them and were more likely to not release them compared to patients who were docile but insane.

They are, I have 8400 bill for a 6 day stay where I basically sat around all day with occasional kindergarten activities like coloring or trying to build a tower with folded paper with other loonies. Never saw a therapist or anything and my bill was 19,000+ before insurance.

this is pretty true. i got put on an involuntary hold because i tried to an hero during a crazy bad shroom trip. i literally could have slept of my injuries and was in a completely fine mental state before and after. i ended up having to stay for 5 days and the 'doctor' pretty much made me take a low dose of abilify (which im pretty sure was actually a placebo and of course i got charged for). ended up with like 8k bill which i bankrupted away kek.

        That's actually ridonkulous.

In my country I just went on a month long bender, ended up completed psychotic, no idea who I was, tried to an hero about 4 times and couldn't even write my own name. Got put in a nice comfy hospital bed for a week with Diazepam and daily visits from a Psyche and an Alcohol liason nurse.

Total cost: My bus fare home when I got out.

Yeah, it's wild reading stories from the Land of the Free on this shit. About give years ago I had a complete mental breakdown and tried to an hero multiple times. Was able to see a psych, was put on a bunch of meds and monitored by friends and my teachers at Uni, none of it cost me a cent except for all the meds, which were subsidised and only cost me like $12 for everything. Was on about three or four different pills at a time.

Fricking blows my mind that people in the States are being hit up for 10k+ for basic care

i live in canada and this is my biggest fear. could you imagine having an accident or a medical emergency and your in the system, but or what ever reason you can't leave.
      >either you can't afford it, or you literally don't know anybody
And before long the nursing staff starts bullying you. You'd leave if only you could, bit there's nothing you can do. Nurse bullying turns in to neglect and no matter how much of a fuss you make, nothing changes and you become less coherent and even less mobile.
All of the sudden you're visited by someone who seems to want to help you. They explain something to you but you're so dazed by the drugs and all you take notice of is that this person seemingly wants to help you, so you agree. You make your signature on a document and you're told to put your head down. It's finally over, you're getting the help you need. But all they do is cart you away and pump you full of lethals because the document you signed was a MAID application.
That's it. You just cost them too much money.

    >revealed
    We knew this for years.

    >In 2012, Lloyd explained that his decision to retire from acting in 2001 was due to bullying at school, which was primarily due to mockery of his role in The Phantom Menace. As a result, he decided to destroy all his Star Wars memorabilia.

    >In March 2015, police responded to an alleged assault by Lloyd on his mother Lisa Riley. In a statement to Indianapolis Metro Police Department, Riley alleged Lloyd arrived at her house and began verbally berating her. He then progressed to physically assaulting her, but she declined to press charges, revealing that Lloyd was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was not taking his medication at the time.

    >On June 17, 2015, Lloyd was arrested in South Carolina under the name Jake Broadbent for reckless driving, driving without a license, and resisting arrest; he failed to stop for a red light, which initiated a high-speed police chase. At a hearing on June 22, his bail was set at $10,700. On June 23, Lloyd's mother stated to TMZ that he has schizophrenia and that "the family plans to try and get him help again [...] once he's released from jail". Lloyd was not released on bail.

    >In April 2016, after being kept for 10 months without trial in Colleton County Detention Center, Lloyd was transferred from jail to a psychiatric facility. Schizophrenia was given as the reason.

    >In January 2020, his family issued a statement saying that he has moved closer to his family, and has officially been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

Daisy Riddley was fine. Only turboautists who can only see things in black and white think Daisy Riddley's acting was the problem. The writing of the character is not the same thing as the performance of the actor. You could have a female led Star Wars movie that's not shit, they just didn't make one.

        Anonymous

Not in the current year you can't. Rey is a symptom of the problem, and so is Finn to a lesser extent. You can't have a flawed minority or female character in modern Hollywood. The idea of making one of the main characters a defecting Storm Trooper was one of the best ideas they had in the sequel series. But because Finn was black, he had to be a conscript that was stolen as a baby and forced into the First Order against his will, because making a black guy have character flaws is considered deeply and profoundly racist.

Same with Rey. She couldn't be a female Luke Skywalker. She had to be mindbendingly more competent than the real Luke Skywalker. In fact, they had to retroactively make Luke Skywalker a worse person just so nobody had any questions about who the Messiah is in this series.

        Anonymous

She wasn't fine, the problem is also whether people realize it or not but she had an English accent.
Almost all of the heroes in the original trilogy had American accents and the Villians had English accents.
Prequels don't count as the Disney Sequels were trying to very heavily re-tell the Original trilogy.
But of course they "fixed" that loophole in the final of the Disney trilogy by saying she was Granddaughter of Palpatine.
But it doesn't change how it was very odd to hear the hero having an English accent for most of the screen time of the Disney trilogy. It felt off.

          Anonymous

          >She wasn't fine, the problem is also whether people realize it or not but she had an English accent.
Having an English accent is not a performance trait if it's just her actual accent. Unless they asked her to do an American accent and she failed, it's a production thing, not an acting thing. It would be like saying Daniel Craig's performance as Bond was bad on the basis of him having blond hair. You can say that he's a bad choice for that reason, but it has nothing to do with his skillset as a performer. You generally don't critique a performance on the basis of an actor's accent unless it is performance relative, and in this case it wasn't. To use Craig as an example again, you could say he was bad in Knives Out because you didn't buy his accent, but if you were to say his acting sucked because he has blue eyes and you would prefer his character to have green eyes, that's dumb.

It's very relevant in Starwars as again, original series all the villians or those in the sphere of influence of the Empire were using received pronunciation also known as the archetypical English accent. Think Princess Leia when she was talking with Darth Vader in Episode 4 a New Hope compared to how she later spoke, with the American accent. Intentional or not, real or not the affect is very real of being able to distinguish tone of who is who and on which side or interacting with what side. Interactions within the Empire favoured English accents, interactions on the Outer Rim and in the Rebellion favoured American accents.
Accents also are not the same as indelible characteristics, they can be changed Henry Cavil and Christian Bale both British but are well known for playing American based Characters with American accents.
Accents in a production matter, whether you wish to think of it or ignore it, they matter.

              >It's very relevant in Starwars as agai
I don't think I'm making myself clear. I'm not saying it's not relevant to the film, I'm saying it's not performance relevant. Riddley is literally just using her actual IRL voice in the movie, it's not a curated element of her performance. You can't say she's a bad actor on that basis because it's just an innate trait. You can say she was wrong for the role or that the producers didn't understand Star Wars, but faulting Riddley herself for that makes no sense.

But again, it COULD be performance relevant, but only if she was attempting to do a different accent and failed. If she was trying to do an American accent and it came out sounding like that, you could say she was a shitty actor for that reason, but there's no evidence to suggest she was asked to do something else.

Tell that to the shit people gave Kevin Costner for Robin Hood not having an English accent.
Funny thing is, that during that time the high born spoke a form of French and only the low class spoke older English.

Carrie Fisher was using some British or Transatlantic accent in the original film.
