i'm thinking about it
It sounds like were getting a superhero movie actually made from the heart and not just soulless cgi fest. Gunn has already gone 5 for 5 with all his capeshit stuff, I see no reason to fear that he'd fuck up with Superman.
That'd be great. Gunn posted that with a panel from All-Star Superman which gives me crazy high hopes for a movie that doesn't "deconstruct" superman but shows how lovable he is. If the movie has Supes walking Regan back from the edge of the building's roof I'll make everyone in my family see it
Thier going to make Regan a chud and then everyone in /toon/ will cry how supes should have let a chud die
/toon/ already does that.
same, i think Gunn wants to genuinely try something different than he normally does with his work.
>Legacy
Oh no, they're killing him off and replacing him with Gay Jon, aren't they?
I'm fine with it, makes sense that Gunn would want to set up the universe by doing the first movie himself. I guess he'll also take it upon himself to do the big crossovers, and then other directors will be able to run free with everything else
I just hope he either reigns in his worse filmmaking impulses (the whedonesque comedy, the pop culture references, 'dance off's, out of place horror elements) or gets someone else sctually intimately familiar with superman to doctor up his script.
Only Snyderfags and DCEUcucks will be mad. Supermanbros we're finally going to get a good movie
Just because it wont be as bad as Zack Snyders take on Superman, doesn't mean it wont be bad. Batman & Robin was a bad Batman movie for the exact opposite reasons Batman V Superman and Justice League were. But it was still bad.
>Batman & Robin was a bad Batman movie
nope
It was hot garbage. I'm not against camp, I love the movie based on the 60s show.
>Only Snyderfags and DCEUcucks will be mad.
Rent free.
>crossfit plates
He deadlifting like 90lb lmao
If this fails and flop. It's the day that DC truly dies.
If this bombs then that's it. No more Superman movie ever again. Not until he enters the public domain in 18 years.
DC and WB have put more money and effort into trying to make what should be the easiest character to make a movie out of, and still failed. At this point their failure with Superman shouldn't be seen as a economic failure or a quality control failure. But a moral and spiritual indictment of WB's moral core as a company and the majority of it's employees and creative teams.
>But a moral and spiritual indictment of WB's moral core as a company and the majority of it's employees and creative teams.
their response for that is more wokeness, because they truly believe that's where they are lacking
Can't wait for
>a black Jimmy Olsen or asian Lois Lane to lecture superman on his white privilege the way Catwoman did in The Batman.
>The Daily Planets journalists to be portrayed as noble crusaders against fake news, and not the manipulative evil scumbags they are in real life
>A Lex Luthor clearly meant to either the racist Orange Man or the out of touch Elon Musk.
>A Lexcorp meant to be a metaphor for Amazon or Tesla/SpaceX with a heavy Anti-Capitalist Anti-American message.
>Amanda Waller, a Black woman, is terribly amoral or immoral
>Gunn's main characters tend to be white people, especially white dudes in love with pretty women
>murder isn't glorious, but often violence and killing really are the answer
Gunn isn't even like Twitter checkmark level "woke". Frankly imo he went overboard shitting on Waller without showcasing her more sympathetic, humanizing side. Don't use your noggin to make up shit just to get mad about, ain't healthy.
Making Lois Asian wouldn't even be good "representation". She can be a bit of a silver spoon spoiled brat with a bigwig military daddy, that could easily pull on resentment toward Asians.
>Gunn's main characters
that's the problem, this is DC COMICS we are talking about, not Gunn's Comics.
I'm just saying whats probably going to happen, because I have no faith. No faith at all in anyone at WB, not even James Gunn.
Here are some more predictions
>Smallville will probably be moved from a red conservative state like Kansas to a more liberal place like massachusetts or Oregon. Jon and Martha kents characters will be changed accordingly to be more 'progessive'.
>Superman will be a himbo or an idiot like Starlord or Peacemaker, played by a skinny manlet, who will be submissive to his feminist girlboss Lois Lane and doesn't dare assert himself or use force to settle a problem like a Superhero would and should.
>Superman revealing he's an alien from another planet when a jingoistic character praises him for being his ideal American, possibly with some 'relevant' commentary about immigration.
>No fight with a Supervillain that actually has collateral damage because fans would get angry if a clash with Braniac or Doomsday or Lex in his robot suit in the downtown of metropolis actually had a body count like in the comics.
>who will be submissive to his feminist girlboss Lois Lane
Ins't that the point of their relationship in the comics? He's a goofy shy guy, she is a fearless but impulsive woman.
>she is a fearless but impulsive woman.
you mean independent, strong-minded, career-Oriented
Superman vs Elite already did most of these
Your predictions are dogshit and you're suffering from brain rot
>Superman revealing he's an alien from another planet when a jingoistic character praises him for being his ideal American, possibly with some 'relevant' commentary about immigration.
>Anon accidentally describes the plot of a Superman comic while doomsaying how terrible the new movie is going to be
I assume this is a put on to get someone to say "/toon/ doesn't read comics" but seriously guy, we've even got a Villain you can work with. Heck pitch me someway to work in the Legion of Superheroes so we can get Johns some GI Joe money for adapting it.
Technically that was a Hitman comic that Superman cameoed in.
Wasn't it a LoSH mini?
It might also be that but
>character praises him for being his ideal American, possibly with some 'relevant' commentary about immigration.
sounds like Hitman 34
Nowadays you’ll never see Superman treating a conservative/Republican American character who actually believes in some reasonable American ideals with the same respect he gives a liberal or progressive character.
Blame Mark Waid and the writers who came after him for that.
How do you square yous unending victim mentality with the fear mongering that Gunn might have the audacity to include a black or a gay in his movies?
Hating masculine conservative characters like Superman is not a James Gunn problem it’s a Hollywood problem. They’ll make either make him weak and pathetic to prop up Lois or they’ll make him a model feminist Ally. Because those are the only two male characters that are allowed to exist in modern progressive Hollywood.
It’s just the way things are and it’s not going to change.
>Nowadays you’ll never see Superman treating a conservative/Republican American character who actually believes in some reasonable American ideals with the same respect he gives a liberal or progressive character.
Such as his wife?
Lois might be an army brat but she's also a non blonde female journalist and that's woke now.
Lois is as liberal and left wing as they come. Or did the fact she works at the DC universes equivalent of The Mew York Times not tip you off?
We have One (1) comic where her politics are explored in any detail, in that she out and out tells Clark she's a Conservative, meanwhile Clark pleads the fifth and it's a running joke throughout that he's the only character more or less keeping his politics private.
Republican/Conservative character? Sure
Bigot ? No
Learn the fucking difference you absolute fucking moron.
You can believe in small Government and low spending without being a racist/sexist/homophobic/xenophobic assbag.
Modern screenwriters don’t know the difference. To them anyone who’s even vaguely right wing is a bigot. Including Superman, a patriotic Kansas Farmboy.
Not anymore.
Nobody was making the truly accusation that conservatives are bigots. And not for the usual reason of the statement being redundant.
>Mark Waid and the writers who came after him for that.
when did this trend start?
The whole point of that post was that I don't want a Superman movie that tries to do something 'deep' and 'relevant' or 'political' with his character. Or tries to have some commentary in it about what 'the american way' even means anymore, because that is never not cringe. I just want him being Superman. Not a Superman for liberals, not a Superman for conservatives. A Superman for everyone. But I know I'm not going to get that from todays movie industry that hates everything the character once stood for.
>Not a Superman for liberals, not a Superman for conservatives. A Superman for everyone.
I hate to break it to you but that's a liberal sentiment.
Classical JFK liberal, not trigglypuff liberal.
You're on a board that got triggered because in one issue Superman kept a white man under mind control from shooting migrants. On the basis that preventing a person from unwillingly becoming a murderer was "woke".
The outrage was caused by the guy doing the shooting being a walking talking stereotype of middle american conservatives wearing an american flag, mullet, bad teeth and talking in a southern drawl.
If it had been Superman stopping a black gang member with gold teeth, a crip bandana, face tattoos, speaking in eubonics shooting up a white family's grocery store. It wouldnt be the conservatives angry.
You'd think we'd all have moved beyond racist stereotypes of people we don't understand at this point.
>If it had been Superman stopping a black gang member with gold teeth, a crip bandana, face tattoos, speaking in eubonics shooting up a white family's grocery store. It wouldnt be the conservatives angry.
Fun fact: It was!
IIRC another page in the sequence had gangbangers going after a cop and Superman putting a stop to that.
But guess what? Milo Yanopalous and Fox News conveniently left that part out of their coverage!
You'll see a thousand scenes like this
in a Superman comic demonizing conservative white right wing people as evil and problematic before you'll see one even mildly criticizing a white liberal. That scene was just the straw that broke the camels back.
Since we're on the topic. When was the last time anyone saw a horror movie where the christian character wasn't the bad guy? We all know they have an agenda, and it's doubly so when it comes to Superman.
>When was the last time anyone saw a horror movie where the christian character wasn't the bad guy?
I didn’t know M3gan was religious
>M3gan
that was a good movie and can't wait the sequel
Was it?
even the Tomatoes guys think it was more than okay
>Gunn isn't even like Twitter checkmark level "woke".
The whole reason he got cancelled was because he got in a twitter fight with a republican politician, who in retaliation brought his creepy sex posts to the attention of Disney Corporate. If anything, he's probably even more woke now than he was when he got fired from Disney in the first place.
What culture wars and being terminally online do to a mf
Gunn is a lolbertarian with progressive social views, kinda like a less edgier version off Matt and Trey from South Park
Expect Superman poop jokes.
Mixed. For the movie itself, cautiously optimistic because they intend to use Allstar as the framework. For what comes after? A bit concerned, because they are adapting a story that is essentially an ending for the character. Which means either Jon or Kara potentially becoming the Superman stand in for the universe. Same thing with Gunn citing Batman RIP as the inspiration for this universe’s first Batman movie. It would make more sense to do an adaption Tomasi’s run and introduce Jon or do at least one film before the Allstar adaption to get the normies to give a crap about whomever is going to wear the cape in future installments. But seeing as DC has run out of goodwill from a lot of people and superhero fatigue possibly setting, I get why they are just going to swing big with Allstar and RIP.
There is no reason to believe it's going to adapt anything directly, look what Gunn did with Guardians.
>For the movie itself, cautiously optimistic because they intend to use Allstar as the framework.
All-Star only worked because it was a story about Superman facing his own mortality. You can't open a Superman franchise or film trilogy with that.
It was never said that that it was going to be adapting it 1 to 1. All that's been said is that it's taking heavy inspiration from. If anything it seems more like the movie will be using the base idea of Clark constantly trying to do the right thing even when odds are against him.
I guarantee whatever the filmmakers decide 'the right thing' is, is going to be something that pisses people off.
Can't have Superman stand for Truth anymore because to a liberal in Hollywood Truth is painful. Justice is a lie that encourages police brutality and enables an unfair system. And the 'American way' is racist, classist, sexist, and needs to be abolished for a 'better tomorrow'.
You need help
Rent free
its not an all star adaptation, hes said that all star is a tonal inspiration, not a narrative one
Who cares about what comes after, I'd rather have 1 great film than 20 trash ones
The movie will probably be good but WB marketing is just awful so it can flop unless Gunn is smart with the adversing.
Will Superman be a pedo, just like Gunn?
The fact that it triggers anons this hard is making me cautiously optimistic.
You're a fucking idiot then.
Let's be real. This is a site for, at best, cynics, and most often assholes. People come here to be edgy, contrarian, and say moron with a hard R whenever possible.
This site's culture is antithetical to Superman, which is why there's constantly threads about how much the character supposedly sucks and how he needs fixing and an unending stream of seethe and preemptive copes about how "they're totally gonna make him a gay with a scat fetish you'll see bro."
So yes, between that and the Snyderfags? If Gunn is pissing you people off this early it might actually be the movie I've been waiting for.
Zack Snyder too superman too seriously and it sucked. James Gunn won't take Superman seriously at all, and it'll still suck.
Ultraman played by Gunn's brother will rape Jon and make him gay
You son of a bitch. I'm in.
Suck it Gunnpedos.
How does that prove anything? It was a semi-sequal to the previous Suicide Squad movie that everyone agrees sucked ass? A lot of people assumed it would be the same shit.
Gunn did the best with what he was given
Suicide Squad made a lot of money
I would have never guessed that Aquaman would have been so successful.
And now they're going to fucking ruin it.
Ya te vi, punincel panther
Shazam and Aquaman are the only decent films there.
Snyder's garbage was only carried by the brand names of Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman. The movies were dumb deconstructions by a meathead director that thought he was making some deep commentary.
You're too stupid to understand these movies. I get that. But what you're probably smart enough to understand is that Snyder's movies are the only ones that featured Cavill.
>You're too stupid to understand these movies
Maybe I'll finally see a good live action Superman movie.
The man made troma movies and if there is one thing i know about supes is that edgy fuckers seem to get him. (Morrison, millar, moore, ennis* are peime examples)
*see the hitman issue where he meets superman.
Gunn is just another edgelord like Snyder with a sense of humor. He has a wheelhouse he should stick to. Giving him Superman is going to be just as much of a disaster. Just for different reasons.
Can't wait for an adaptation of Bizarro World that's essentially Toxic Avenger 4.
should've let Andy Muschietti direct it, he's doing a great job with Supergirl in The Flash
supergirl is BLONDE
OP here.
I'm very optimistic although with a touch of caution.
Gunn's style of comedy is exactly what audiences want to see alongside actual badassery.
If we can get Guardians 1 level humor combined with spectacular feats, I truly believe this could what makes modern audiences remember just how entertaining Superman can truly be.
Especially if they show exactly how deep Clark's character is, which is the only thing I fear maybe missing from the upcoming film.
I really hope this movie serves as a hard reboot for the DCU, and that we're only getting the Waller show because it was already greenlit prior to DC Studios being formed and not because the Suicide Squad/Peacemaker characters are sticking around. It's fucked up if those are the only ones that get to stay while everyone else gets recast
>his dad will be born in 2025
kino
"Fine I'll do it myself" was from his movie wasn't it?
No, Age of Whedon
With how impossible to please DC fans are nobody wanted to touch Superman out of fear of their career being nuked like Snyders was if they messed up.
Worthless without Cavill regardless of other factors.
Really Gunn just made an impossible task, getting people to actually give a shit about Superman again. Even more impossible.
The Hardcore fans aren't going to go see it because Cavills not in it, the normal people aren't going to go see it because it's a DC movie and the brand is that in the toilet, and all this is happening right as the Superhero movie trend appears to be on it's way out.
Even if it's a good movie, I don't think people are going to go see a traditional Superhero movie, during the era where people are moving on from the MCU and want more adult fare like the Boys or Invincible. Making a traditional Superman movie now, is going to make it very hard to stand out in an oversaturated market.
I shan’t be watching it because I hate Gunn’s sense of humor.
Current Hollywood is incapable of doing Superman right even with Gunn
Agreed.
>movie Is about young Superman
yeah thats a pass.
Should be about Superman with all his cool shit already in place and just give him an action plot.
They fucked up normal Supermans origin story in the DCEU, they need to reestablish him and pave the foundation before they can build on it and have it actually make sense for Clark to want to actually be Superman and take joy in being Superman and not seeing it as an immense burden like Snyderverse Clark.
Just skip it. Superman barely even needs an origin.
Yeah sure. Skip the rocket on the kent farm, his childhood in smallville, but you'll still have to focus on his rise to fame in Metropolis, and how he started out at the Daily Planet, met Jimmy, started his relationship with Lois.
If not for the fact that Waid triggers this board now I'd say do what Birthright did; have the ship and the kents finding him be the opening credits and then skip to Clark in his early 20s trying to figure shit out.
Trust me. If Gunn adapts Birthright, I can hear Tucker Carlson, Ben Shapiro, Critical Drinker and all the usual online right wing manosphere getting on their high horse about the scene with the gun shop owner right now.
I'd skip that part, personally. Superman stopping a school shooting is too politically charged a concept unfortunately. Best to go the Secret Origins/DCAU/Returns route and make it averting a plane crash.
>bubba redneck with confederate flag, "no immigrants" flag and stormfront shirt
You don't have to make this guy an over the top parody to get your point across, being incompetent enough to sell guns to underage costumers should be bad enough. Though knowing Gunn lacks all subtly, he'd definitely adapt this this to a Tee and even end it with him pissing his pants or something.
It's not that over the top.
No it's pretty over the top and not even accurate to how and who from the Columbine shooters got their guns.
He lost his way, he will never top Scooby Doo 2 : Monsters Unleashed.
>Thoughts ?
Someone with James Gunns twitter history has no business being within the vicinity of making a Superman movie. We already had an alledged sex criminal make a Superman movie once.
I'm thinking All Star is going to be more inspiration than framework. Similar tone, trippy, incredible feats, emotionally impacting. Probably some scenes taken from it. I expect to probably see Clark saving Regan, being UNABLE to save Pa Kent, his attempts to reveal his identity to Lois who comedically doesn't buy it, stuff like that.
With that in mind, what do we imagine the actual PLOT will be ?
I personally want Lobo as the villain. (I've pitched this idea here a few times) His target ? Space Cabbie, who owes gambling debts to pit bosses from Planet Ventura. Clark has to balance hiding/protecting Cabbie and Metropolis from Lobos mayhem while also juggle dating Lois and doing his job, and also doing his regular smaller hero work around the city to make the sure the little people know he's there for them.
>being UNABLE to save Pa Kent
I hope not, I'm sick of Pa being dead in the movies
Depends on how they do it, Pa dying of natural causes like old age or a heart attack serves to ground Clark that he can't do everything and there'll be times where won't be able to save everyone.
His death in MOS was bullshit and contrived though.
Sorry I should have specified that he has to die like this in order for it to be good, like in All Star. I had forgotten how awful Snyder did Pa Kent, somehow.
I'm only asking for nice, warm, optimistic tone, after years of "what if superman but bad" being everywhere, it would serve as a good contrast and make the film stand out
>"Dude, it's Dad's birthday"
>I hadn't realized.
How do you not know your fathers birthday?
family feud and bad parenting could result that
I actually don't like it
They should have made a 2 or 3 part All-Star Superman series with Cavil in the lead as both a fair well to Cavil and a tribute to Superman as a whole and fill it with various actors who have played Superman before
>Henry Cavil as Clark Kent/Superman
>Billy Zane as Lex Luther
>Michael Rosenbaum as Dr. Leo Quintum
>Dean Cain as Jor-El
>Teri Hatcher as Lara Lor-Va
>Channing Tatum as Sampson
>Breckin Meyer as Atlas
>Tyler Hoechlin as Calivin Elder/Kal Kent/Superman of the 853rd century
>Nic Cage as Klyzyzk Klzntplkz/5th-dimensional Superman of the 67th century
>CGI Christopher Reeve as Superman Prime/Golden Superman
>Tristan Lake Leabu as Superman 2
>Brandon Routh as Bar-El
>Kate Bosworth as Lilo
>Tom Welling as Van-Zee
That’s genius
0%
>Superman is a scat fetishist, Brightburn, Super, Troma guy who is only good with edgy literal who characters nobody knows
What is gonna be the cope response for when this is just MoS lite with more cringe jokes, is more self aware and makes less money than MoS
I genuinely can not picture a Gunn Superman that isnt just a watered down Homelander
Why can't he just stick to Creature Commandos and The Authority that is clearly what he is good at
Superman should be given to Raimi or just someone who isn't a cynical asshole which is hard to come by in Pedowood
I've already given up hope for it. I'm just going to be enjoying the show when it crashes and burns and the fans cry about Superman 'still being relevant' despite the critics and box office and everything else saying nobody gives a shit about Superman anymore.
I'm worried. James Gunn has all the pressure on him. If he fucks it up. No more Superman movies ever again, ever.
alright it has the potential to be great but it also has the potential of it having gross out humor in a superman movie and that's just weird
could still work if these jokes were unrelated to superman
Will Superman go to pedo themed parties and Clark and Lois will have a DDLG relationship?
Friendly reminder than James Gunn is the writer behind DC's biggest box office flop so far.
>writer
He directed it too
Also box office numbers is why WB got cold feet about Snyder’s vision in the first place after BvS underperformed
It underperformed because the premise was fucking stupid and it was horribly written drivel with two god awful castings that ruined.
It showed that Snyder had IT to create the type of major action packed movie but goddamnit he desperately needed a decent writer and a producer who'll help him pull his head out of his ass.
Shit BA was more favorably recieved among the normies.
Gunn. He has a very down to earth humanist do what you will style. And he will devolve into straight up mean spirited evil with a grin because people are happy.
He doesn't have the right kind of energy to make the Superman movie that's needed and the thing with Cavil Rock and keeping Ezra around has destroyed all of the good will he had and evaporated the real honest to god once in a lifetime organic hype and hope for the product.
He desperately needs to pull a uno reverse and realize that people need the idea of superman. He can have superman be a normie square jawed guy who wears two masks.
Clark and Superman and understands humanity from both angles and have his parents and maybe a few of his childhood friends in smallville really know who he is.
I believe he can side step the tired basic bitch christ analogue shit and go with celebrity and celebrity worship angle. He'd be more comfortable with that.
Would actually like to sneak in some Legion of Superheros stuff by having one of his "human" friends be a member of the Legion of Superheroes and be on earth to keep an eye on Superman because the Time Trapper wants to end the line of superman and idea of Kal-El before it becomes the threat that prevents him from attaining his true god hood or something.
Bonus points if jimmy is a redhead, clark doesn't immediately fall for lois and think she's kind of a cunt, and they use the timmiverse origin of an evil world eating AI.
If he does braniac/ai better then marvels ultron and make the time trapper a better time villain then kang then...shit bro. It's over.
>Gunn. He has a very down to earth humanist do what you will style.
Uh-huh.
Childish bullshit jokes about people is something that humans do.
>Childish bullshit jokes about people is something that humans do.
Stop stalking kids at your local daycare.
why not, he did such a good job with Frank Miller's 'batman begins' script
DC will have an uphill battle because of the split audience.
Regardless of whether Gunn's movies will be good or bad it will be thrashed by MCUcks and Snyder Stans alike, which will affect their appeal to the general public.
MCUcks on the other hand will stand united.
so if Superman is a no-no for the Community, what other projects are you looking forward to?
