James Gunn Reveals CREATURE COMMANDOS Plot Details

>"The series picks up directly after our 'Peacemaker' season 1 finale, which leaves Amanda Waller with her hands tied operationally, meaning that she’s no longer able to get away with putting human lives on the line to carry out her clandestine morally questionable missions. Instead, she recruits a ragtag band of misfits, not unlike the Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, but this time they are actual literal monsters."

I think Gunn said that Peacemaker being transferred to the new continuinity actually be briefly acknowledged within the show itself

Yeah as more moronic """jokes"""" referencing the old universe

"Canon" to Gunn apparently means "we're not retconning even really minor continuity hiccups."

Peacemaker is a comedy, they can retcon the Justice League cameos as "just a bunch of cosplayers" or something like that

          That would be lame

I think it's just going to be a Mandala effect joke where Peacemaker thought he saw the Justice League after defeating the Butterflies but his team has no clue what he's talking about.

I think that's something Gunn would write and I can 100 percent see that being the "acknowledgement" instead of focusing on it too much.

That doesn't make any sense. You can't say that a show is canon but parts of it isn't. It doesn't work like that.

Canon isn't a marketing term. Or at the very least it shouldn't be, and if it's not seamless then it's bad.

You can when Flash switched up the timeline and multiversal structure to where anything Gunn doesn't like didn't happen on Post-Crisis/Post-Flashpoint Earth-1 now. Plus Snyderverse is now on Clooney Batman's Earth and the Batfleck bullshit is completely erased from the multiverse as a whole.

          Sounds convoluted right? Right.

Why would there be a convoluted explanation for a reboot? Reboots are supposed to make things simple and accessible.

When you need a manual to figure out what parts of what shows and movies are "official" history, you've already lost 99% of the audience.

The solution would be to pull a George Lucas and re-release the first season with the DCEU stuff edited out.

No. The solution would be to never mention it again.

            1. The people who hate the DCEU want it gone.

            2. The people who are indifferent to the DCEU would want it gone because it's too confusing and distracting.

            3. And the people who love the DCEU are only going to use it as an opportunity to remind people of how it was better.

This is just another dot on Gunn's growing list of mistakes.

I don't blame James Gunn for how Amanda Waller is now written in the comics but this is all his fault.

I've read some of the original Creature Commandos. It's much better than this. The drama is dramatic and based on everyone'
s different worries about losing their hold on humanity- and if they even have one. The 1stCC's are more individual, not the standard template comic book characters. Plus the 1stCC's use a concept of the monsters of normal people pushed into the war. They hate their boss/sargent, which is different from Waller's "commit evil unto evil" methods. This anime look does not fit the second World War, nor does giving everyone basic super powers. And there's no reason for Lady Frankenstein looking like Aeon Flux.

    Details from Annecy
    >James Gunn appeared in a thank you video at the beginning of the Creature Commandos panel and said the characters in animated projects are going to jump into live-action projects and vice-versa under a "unified DCU"
    >Locations: Belle Reve, Frankenstein Manor, Frankenstein Lab and Poko Castle (“a failed fairytale type of city”)
    >The creators noted that James Gunn wanted the locations to look exactly like their live-action counterparts. For example, Belle Reve had to look the way it did in Gunn's The Suicide Squad.
    >Creature Commandos is “dark, humorous but never goofy and unsentimental, adult-themed show with political storylines.”
    >This version of Frankenstein is lovestruck
    >Frankenstein gets multiple outfits for beach, formal/black tie, and regular settings
    >None of the characters like each other.
    >CG was used to set up the shots, however, the final product is fully 2D handrawn animation.
    >Future live-action appearances of the characters were taken into consideration when the characters were designed.
    >The voice actors of the characters will appear in live-action portraying their characters.
    >Rick Flag Sr. gets an updated look: white hair, smoother facial animation.
    >Amanda Waller gets floral clothing.
    >Nina Mazursky is “petit and child-like”
    >G.I. Robot wants to kill Nazis with Nina.
    >James Gunn had pitched Creature Commandos before he took over DC. Gunn then greenlit the project himself when he became the CEO of DC Studios.
    >Characters like Medusa will appear in the later seasons of the series.

Amanda Waller is overexposed. You can't blame Gunn for the moron choices from the comic book editors, but damn they should have gone with Agents off S.H.A.D.E. to give some variety. If it's not all leading up to a Janus Directive style crossover, there's no reason to use the Wall for everything.
