Fricking hell, this would've been a perfect entry for that "Movies you recommended your friends didn't like" thread I saw the other day. Too bad I couldn't think of any off the top of my head.
Anyway, Thin Red Line was straight ass. Can't believe I recommended that shit to my friends thinking it'd be some cool war film. I'd liked the song from the soundtrack (Journey to the line) for years, and finally decided to watch it but asked my friends if they wanted to watch it too.
About 5 minutes in, I see John Travola and just think, terrible casting. And I love John Travolta, but he just was not a good choice to be an admiral or whatever he was. 10 minutes in we decided to stop watching. It was just so boring.

This but the absolute total opposite of everything youve said and stand for, which is most likely gay rights and not having a jawline.

Me and all my friends have strong jawlines, myself having the strongest. You're not as tough as you think you are, sport. Make one more moronic post like that again and I'll frick you up 80s style.

Good insight, I only saw Tree of Life but it was such an intense snoozefest it turned me completely off of Malick. But this post is making me wanna watch Thin Red Line.

Lmfao, good one. Love how we have fun on this site.

I love The Thin Red Line. My favorite is The New World, it has Christian Bale and Colin Farrell. Probably Malick's easiest film to get in to.

It's okay man, kino isn't for everyone. Fortunately there's plenty of marvelslop to keep you entertained.

Ok... you say it was bad? I disagree. It's really good at capturing the duality of man.

You should have read the book instead. Lots of gay shit that would have certainly kept your interest.

Apocalypse Now is the apotheosis of war movies, what's the need for more war content? at least Kubrick tried to do something different with the first act of FMJ

      >Apocalypse Now is the apotheosis of war movies
      It's not.
Unironically it is Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers. War films are about battle, comradery, bravery, cowardice, adventure, savagery, but mostly battle, fighting. Thats what war films are about. No film has better battle scenes than Saving Private Ryan.

I got this film when I was a kid when I was obsessed with war films and watched it a lot and have rewatched it as an adult and I still can not remember a single moment in this film apart from the guy getting his arse blown off with the grenade

I watched this and it didn't do it for me. Soldiers being poetic didn't work for me, and the pacing of it wore me down with time.
I see a lot of people saying they hated it when they were young and grew to love it as adults. I'm already well into my 30s, so I guess I'm just too stupid for it.
