I love Joe, but I think Season 3 was a good enough end to the show.
Season 1 and 2 both have themes and a overall arc to them that all tie up beautifully at the end of each season. Season 3 was just a little more of the same without any real story or point to it. Joe was in mourning, but every character still lived their lives normally as he did. Season 1 was all about him forming connections with people, Season 2 had the peapods, Nana's passing, Joe thinking of moving, Mike's possible divorce, for a comedy show it had a lot of plot threads that all worked. Season 3 had... chairs, but it also had the funniest episode of the entire series, and that was the School Entertainment one.
It would be amazing if the guys involved in these type of shows could put together another Super Deluxe or JASH type thing. They managed to produce things similar to this but as soon as they get outside funding (Verizon in JASH's case) or in the opposite case run out of cash things go to hell. How much can a few boom mics and a hospital IV stand with an iPhone attached to it cost anyway? You can probably do a lighting rig on the cheap using a similar mentality too. ADRing is pretty easy, color grading can just be left up to taste, no need for any education there, and editing is more about timing and surrealism when it comes to these sorts of projects anyway. Its not like you need to do any crazy VFX or T&E Awesome Show era DJ Douggpound-esque stuff
It sucks that the show was cancelled but I feel like S1 and S2 told the complete story and S3 was just an Epilogue, it also got a little more zany in the humor.I’m gonna miss it but I’m really happy with what we got
