idk I could go on about the experiments for a few posts, how unfair life was for gantu, the wider repercussions of Jumba's frickery, and disney's cruel habit of forgetting everything about the franchise beyond stitch, angel, and scrump pissing me off. We also have two spin offs we could discuss as well as the impending disaster of the rumored live action remake.

The whole Lilo and Stitch experience was pretty great beginning to end. It probably helped the creator was in on most of it.

You could say that about most shows, but since this is a Lilo and Stitch thread I don't see the problem in it.

I agree, it was one of my early loves as a kid. It was around for so much of my childhood I assumed it would always be present. I was sadly mistaken.
        >It probably helped the creator was in on most of it.
yeah I think about this alot too. you can really tell when a creator isnt present for a spin off or a sequel. it's almost always immediate. some of the best examples I can think of are PPG and TMNT

I remember just really liking that the show was nearly identical to the movie. Down to the voices and animation nearly being the same. It's one of the only good movie to TV adaptations. It feels like it's just the next canon thing that happens and not some shit fanfic by other writers

I've always wondered how well it fared compared to the other now buried disney sequel shows. The only real contemporary Lilo and Stitch had in terms of quality was BLoSC. I remember liking the Hercules and Tarzan shows aswell but I dont see them discussed often and morever I remember comparitively little.

Lilo and Stitch is the only one I liked at all other than The Penguins of Madagascar and All Hail King Julien but that was DreamWorks. I remember seeing The Little Mermaid one at like 3am one night and remember it being okay.

I wanted to add, I think these crossovers would have been received better if the characters had been adapted to the other's art style. Obviously that would have been alot of work for a few episodes but I think they all merited the effort. I wonder why Ben 10 was the one show which ever thought to do this with a crossover.

I actually prefer the characters staying their style, but maybe that's just my autism not wanting the characters to change at all.

                Anonymous

Penguins was expertly handled even if it shared little with the films. I always assumed Penguins took place in its own pocket universe or something because of how little overlap there was between the show and the films. Is the Julien show worth watching? the fact that its on netflix doesnt give me very high hopes. Im expecting it to be as good as that Madagascar babies series that came out a while ago. Odd how Dreamworks knocked out tv adaptions for so long up until fairly recently when they all started to go to shit.

                >I actually prefer the characters staying their style, but maybe that's just my autism not wanting the characters to change at all.

honestly I can respect that take. but I always figured if we were only ever going to see these properties crossover once it should warrant the added effort by default. That said the KND/Billy and Mandy crossover did none of that shit and it remains one of alltime favorite.

King Julien is fricking amazing. It's simultaneously the fricking stupidest thing and the best thing at once. I laughed so hard I nearly pissed myself. It's pretty great. It also has Lore too if you're into that.

                >second paragraph
I think the CN one was less bad because they were simpler and closer in art style. The Disney shows were way different. Either way I appreciate the 00s for having those big crossovers. They don't do that shit anymore, it makes me sad man.

                >the king julien series has lore
what? I cant even fathom what the implications of king julien lore are.

You're right about the CN crossovers btw. Especially those earlier CN series. Alot of them could easily mesh together which gave the overall network alot of visual coherence in retrospect. Im still surprised the Recess crossover even happened honestly. The series was way dead and buried by the time that episode came out. I had only seem the series in reruns on disney saturday mornings by then too. I wonder if theres some kind of story behind why it even happened.

                >They don't do that shit anymore, it makes me sad man.

the last instances I can recall of such crossovers are OKKO and nu-Ben 10 and both really dropped the ball. The KO specials are incredibly rushed and do very little with the material avalible to them. Likewise nu-ben 10 just revisited another plot point fro, the first 4 shows. Im almost depressed by the both of them frankly.

I think Disney was just trying to compete with CN and Nick's crossovers. They were all vying for the most eyeballs so mega events were needed. Nothing more epic than 3 to 4 way crossovers. Nick was always kneecapped by the fact SpongeBob could not be used in crossovers though.

                >KO paragraph
I did not care for either series much at all. I feel like both were wasted potential. KO in particular could have been great but it was just okay. They didn't take anything seriously enough to get invested, I felt like everything was a joke or a reference to something that was not the show which hindered my enjoyment. Ben 10 was just fricking tragic.

                >spongebob wasnt allowed in crossovers
wait what? I mean that explains alot but its the first I hear of this. aside from the jimmy timmy power hours were there any other big crossovers on nick? I cant recall any. Ditto on the KO point btw. I think Ian squandered all his opportunites. He could have really done something big and game changing and he delivered another 15 minutes per episode cartoon comedy. It was really around that point where CN lost me. By then they just didnt have anything I truly liked and the constant shitshow reboots like ben 10 2016 and ppg just killed what remaining interest I had. I havent looked back since and as far as I know it was a good point to ditch CN. Shit seems to have gotten way worse since then. I think the Ben 10 move especially stings because he was effectively the face of CN for nearly 2 decades. Even that status wasnt enough to stop them from fricking it up unfortunately. Since we're talking Sanders btw, what do you think of all the recent HTTTYD news? I really thought we were done after the last flick but Dreamworks clearly thinks otherwise.

Stephen Hillenberg had a no TV crossover policy. The nicktoons game was their workaround. And yes there were no other Nick crossovers, probably because SpongeBob crew would not do it.

It's s shame too because the early 2010s shows on CN were excellent but it exceedingly got worse as the decade went on. Everyone who worked on AT and SU sucked. Now CN might as well not exist with how much Discovery gutted WB. Oh how I miss 1999-2015.

                >the mystery inc crew worked on the julien series
it's always bizarre when talent from one big series ends up working on something completely unrelated. Ironically DJW fits that bill well. He juat popped up in the oddest places without warning and always delivered a knock out job. Of all the bad which came out of the 2010's, none of it meets the sheer devastation I felt when DJW died. I really loved that guy. He was one of the last worthwhile creators in the biz.
                >Hillenberg policies
Makes me wish Nick had given a chance for other crossovers to happen. Unfortunately its Nick and anyone with a brain knows how they treat anything that isnt Spongebob. It would have been fun to get something weird and wild like Jimmy Neutron/MLAATR crossover or El Tigre meets The X's. Nick had alot of great shows but they always suffocated their best mercilessly. Very sad
                >1999-2015
Frick, I've never seen someone so succintly explain where and when culture went awry. I remember realizing that in the moment too. Memes aside 2016 really was a paradigm shift. Half the time I almost cant believe I live in the same world that produced Lilo and Stitch. The last 7 years have gone by like a cyclone and I cant keep up with any of it. Speaking of which I've long since accepted CN's death. Boomerang's got more life in it these days than CN.That said I fully expect the dissolution of the brand before this decade is over. I'd be surprised if it was alive in any tangible form in the next 2 years let alone the next 6.

The corporate mergers and political shit flinging have completely destroyed entertainment and our economy. I hate it so much. 2016 was the beginning and it's been happening ever since. There have been a few good shows here and there but nothing has been good enough to stand alongside shit made before 2016. Maybe only Smiling Friends and a couple Netflix shows. And nothing will be made for awhile because not even live action is safe, and Animation always goes first. The SVB collapse will certainly make things even worse than where we are at.

there's talk that the live action dragons franchise is also being pushed to production to further distance the brand from Zelda, which Dreamworks is slated to get a hold of within the next few years. It seems asinine enough to be real by my judgement. I know something was up when the nine realms series reared its ugly head. I know dragons is Dreamwork's cash cow these days but I really didnt see this coming.

I agree. I'm just waiting to see Discovery get folded into Comcast/Apple/Paramount at this point. WB is a cursed hot potato.

I wasnt saying Wyatt worked on it. Just making the connection that his crew and him pop up in the most unexpected places and projects. As far as Nick goes I dont expect things to ever improve. They've never changed once and it's only netted them a shitload more money. They have no reason to bother trying new ips when they have a hold over cash cows like TMNT and Spongebob.

                >CN
I know it sounds naive and moronic but I think we'll be done with all the mania by the end of the decade. the next 2 to 6 years are going to be pretty rough though, regardless of where you live. globalisation's demise, population collapses, and the sheer number of people aging into the 70s within the decade will ensure a massive headache for everyone on the planet. As for the number of good shows that came out in the 2010's I could probably count them on one hand. It's odd how perfectly the decade started and how miserable it became just 5 years later. It feels like two decades got compressed into one somehow.

                >Discovery
I keep hearing they've had the best luck with WB of any of the previous owners. As far as Im concerned though Ive not seen any improvement in the output to merit that conclusion. Its all the same mediocre shit to me. Even Smiling Friends failed to excite me. Beavis and Butthead is probably the one thing I enjoyed last year next to Hotel Transylvania 4. Animation is fricked though so you're right in that regard too.

                >These companies are desperately trying to create "big IP" out of anything now
Atleast in the case of Dragons I can see it. Every other Dreamworks brand is either on ice or not as big. Dragons has consistently delivered and the sheer number of spin offs and toylines its generated kind of proves that to me. At the end of the day its the same Sanders working on dragons that gave us Lilo and Stitch. Not to mention I see the dragons merch constantly moving. You know we're living in weird times when Viacom/Paramount and Universal are the big dogs though.

if you can get past lilo's abscence its basically the same show as the first but as an anime. the one I dont know shit about is the more recent chinese series.

          >its basically the same show as the first but as an anime.
The anime series continuity barely has the experiments, new AND old ones.

            >this is a bad thing.... because?
The heart of the franchise is the dynamic of cute girls and an alien, not a failed collectible launch.

only the 2nd and 3rd season since they have the old experiments and some new ones like Bragg and Dark End

Because it was a different time
We would have had Jumba throwing a real swiss army knife, a chase through the city with a stolen plane, and Lilo still hiding in a dryer
    But no
That's just not the world we live in anymore

sorry for the wait anon, I hit the text limit in my last post and had to split it. cont.

    >Discovery
im almost certain they'll prove to dissappoint as much as AT&T. there's no saving WB, its too far gone.
    >Dragons
there's talk that the live action dragons franchise is also being pushed to production to further distance the brand from Zelda, which Dreamworks is slated to get a hold of within the next few years. It seems asinine enough to be real by my judgement. I know something was up when the nine realms series reared its ugly head. I know dragons is Dreamwork's cash cow these days but I really didnt see this coming.

He did that in the movie proper as well. Did you just completely miss the scene where Jumba was willing to snipe Stitch and he hugged Lilo to stop it?

      See

This was supposed to be after his character development, though

Stich at this point in his story is still a little monster who hasn't learnt human morality.

I don't get it, in the Latino dub Jumba explicitly states that Stitch is using Lilo as a Human Shield and that's was low even for him

He basically did the same thing near the beginning of the film when Lilo first adopted him. The only difference is that this scene is more overt.
