That's some fun editing for a student film. The costumes are cheap but they probably have zero budget. They did a great job.

>own good"
It really was.
Obviously today people will whine about women in fridge and crippled representation or whatever, but what happened to her in killing joke was the best thing to happen to the character in a meta way.
Nobody cared about Batgirl, so much that she was already retired from the role and the executives gave the go ahead to cripple her because they didn't think anyone cared.
It took John Ostrander recreating her as Oracle for her popularity to sky rocket. Everyone loved Oracle, Barbara became far more popular in that role than she ever was as Batgirl. To the point that when Dini wanted to give her her mobility back, Denny O'Neil said no.
I bet you anything that comics with Oracle on the cover sold considerably more than anything with hipster batgirl and her shitty purple jumpsuit

>Just was unsure on the "own good" thing.
Well, arguably (in some peoples opinion), she becomes a much more interesting character in the comics after the paralysis. She becomes like an information broker for Batman and other superheroes, feeding them rumors and or accumulated data from the "underworld" like payoffs or bank transactions that may mean this villain is planning something, building layouts, shit like that. She ends up forming and leading Birds of Prey. As a character there was a considerable amount of growth. Especially considering what she was like in comics before that which was an occasional second sidekick. So I think that may be the "own good" they were talking about.
This is a faulty, nostalgia-filled reasoning. Just because something worked 20 years ago it doesn't mean it will work now if we copy-paste it. It's been a year or more since she's back as Oracle and so far, nobody in the writing team knows what to do with her and why she was grounded in the first place, so she's just getting sidelined more and more.

That's because they keep trying to make her Oracle AND Batgirl. When the selling point of Oracle was she didn't "need" to be in the thick of it to be useful. They're trying to ride this fence of oh she's a badass and oh she sits behind a computer and does hacking shit. And that's literally how they write it to fit it in with her active Batgirl stuff. I'll hack the camera, I'll hack his bank account, I'll hack this, I'll hack that. If you didn't catch it I hack stuff cuz I'z super good with computer stuff if you haven't caught on to that yet. Barbara used to be in her time as Oracle as an internet detective. Because she was in a whhelchair or just better writing in general they didn't rush through the tech or detective aspect of her job because that was the entirety of her job. If it was field work then, Black Canary and Huntress did the action portions. It was clear and they took time in the comics to emphasize Oracles strengths with set up issues, This is the kinda boring explanation of what's going on and the the pay off issue where people take action based off the information Oracle got. And occasionally they would have an issue where even though Barbara was in a wheelchair they'd show she could still handle herself in an emergency.
The new Batgirl (Barbara), is trying to be all things to all people. No girls you can be kick ass and good at STEM fields. And I'm not saying a girl can't. But it makes for a garbage story.

Anon, I'm not justifying making her a cripple again. I'm just stating that the reason Barbara Gordon is popular today is because she was crippled. It's a fact

In The Killing Joke, Joker shoots Barbara in the spine, paralyzing her from the waist down. I think it became canon
That's an ancient story. She got better some 10 years ago. Then some nostalgic chucklefrick decided "hey do you guys remember how everybody like how she was a cripple 20 years ago? Let's do that again". So some year ago, she literally crippled HERSELF for no goddamn reason. Now she lost her book and is editorially forbidden from being Batgirl anymore, because Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown literally stole her mantle away from her.

I like Moore's writing. But even without all the gay feminist whining, a lot of the criticism is right.
I always liked that interpretation from , currently THEY/THEM Grant Morrison that Killing Joke was supposed to be the last Joke story and maybe the last Batman one, because it ends with the latter killing the former

Writer probably thinks Batgirl is Batwoman, but I won't read The Guardian.

The ungodly awful CW show with Ruby Rose that was so bad even SHE didnt want a part of it so they turned Batgirl black for no reason.
