    >what if we take this acclaimed actor everybody likes and make him act like an autism-o robot
it was an awful movie and the aesthetics were too close to Interstellar to be visually interesting.

A mediocre film carried by aesthetics. It wants so bad to be Kubrick's 2001. I think there might be some esoteric symbolism in there, especially at the end with his dad being some kind of false god / demiurge.

Nah, it's hollow. Not being able to tell a real masterpiece from a fraudulent copy is typical midwit thinking.

Great filter for morons and plebs
      Space monkey was dumb tho

If the film has any esoteric depth at all, the space monkey scene is obviously a reference to cosmic evolution just as it was with Kubrick. Funny that you think morons and plebs don't get the movie when you clearly don't get it yourself. Again, evidence of midwits being tricked by a well executed hoax.

A compelling and excellent science fiction film ruined by some utterly stupid sequences
People like to claim this is hard sci fi and I just laugh...

    >moon pirates
what do they eat? Or breath? Where do they come from right before
    >high speed car chase with laser battle
    and then we have
    >space monke
could be cool i guess but i dunno
    >comedy japes killing off the entire crew at Mars
    eh
    >surfing across the rings of...Neptune iirc? On a surfboard

Things I really liked were the depiction of the Cold War earth with America on the brink
    >Mars is our last secure hub
And the overall depiction of Mars, plagued by chronic suicide and mostly covered by criminals and poor people
And the depiction of Neptune, it felt "far away" if that makes sense, almost spooky

Its a very bizarre film. Like you can tell that the was a decent script and vision in the film at one point, and then for some reason they decided to make it a comically bad Bollywood action film at certain parts. Pretty much every cinematic action scene in the film fricking moronic. Also, its super obvious the role was written for Gosling and they got Pitt as their second choice.

Yeah, First Man. But it's more of a drama. Pretty good though

Brad Pitt did a good job in this film tbh, not all autists are Gosling, I'm tired of him to be honest

    Ad Astra was cinematic
The depictions of travelling to the moon, then Mars, then Neptune were cool

I'm just a casual, but I was distinctly unimpressed. 20 minutes after the meandering plot punctuated by tension-free "action" finally starts to go somewhere, the credits roll.

Liked the visuals but I'm really tired of the psychological aspect of these movies, like man, why can't it be actually some interesting space sci-fi thing that happens for once and not
    >Uh oh, I'm so emotionally stunted, wife left because of it, time to rescue my dad-stronaut who was searching for aliens!
    >Turns he went fricking crazy and now he kills himself by drifting off into space
    >Time to go home and be in a slightly less bad place emotionally
Also the part with the monkey was dumb.

Apocalypse Now, but without the surrealism and increasing intensity
Interstellar, but without the scientific accuracy and human emotion
Annihilation, but without the intrigue and visual flair

lmao. What exactly was scientifically worse about Ad Astra than sending messages to the past by jumping into a black hole?

The voiceover felt forced, it didn’t add anything, like it was only there because they were worried that audiences couldn’t handle silence.

Cool movie. People overthink it. It's just a cool action flick with a space monkey and moon pirates. But apparently because it has a story that reaches beyond
    > And then men in underwear and capes appeared
    Somehow this makes it deep.
No. It makes it a cool movie with space monke and moon pirates.

Pretty cool idea to adopt Heart of Darkness to a space context, but hard to do when Apocalypse Now already adapted the story into a different context so perfectly. The space voyage also just doesn't have the same connectivity of traveling up a river deeper into "the jungle" of a primitive land... further and further from civilization and all rules controls and order. Moving further and further out into the solar system just doesn't have the same metaphorical power.

Some great parts brought down by some distractingly dumb action sequences.
