Natm is the perfect example of a parody movie not going full moron. It was mindlessly dumb when it needed to be, but then it would 180 back into reality well written witty comedy. Disaster movie, date movie, epic movie, etc are essential the same type of movie, but they failed because they went full moron

NATM like Airplane manages to comedically satirise the things it's parodying. Those Epic, Disaster, Date Movies etc. just reference the scene then have someone fart. They're not written by funny people.
