I also think this was Tarantula at his worst. I like the same old cheesy genre flicks he likes, but somehow the way he does Kill Bill and some things in his other movies, it’s like he’s only doing it for the people who aren’t familiar with the original and with a weird smug aura like he thinks he’s the only guy who watched Lady Snowblood.

What about it made you dislike it?

It's extremely cheesy. I understand it's ironic (I hope it's ironic), but I don't understand why it's so silly. If the movie turned out to be a movie inside of a movie, I would understand all of the cliches and silliness, but that obviously wasn't the case

why do you think it's ironic?

I don’t think there's anything wrong with cheese, ironic or not.

why do you think it's ironic?

I don't mind if it's ironic. I just expected this level of cheese from a movie like Scary Movie. I feel like I'm missing major context for why this movie is so stereotypical. Why does Beatrice break the forth wall? Why is she narrating? Why are they fighting with martial arts? Why does the kung fu master have such white hair? Why are their sound effects for everything they do?

If the movie told you it took place in the 70s (which I doubt it does), then I would understand why it's like a 60-70s kung fu movie, but it doesn't. Why is the movie like this? Why is it so comical? Why do some of the moves look INTENTIONALLY silly? It's like this film is a PARODY of Kill Bill

Are you on the spectrum or something? You don't understand stylistic homages to certain time periods/genres? Did you start watching moves like a week ago??

Its not about getting specific references, idiot. It's just about recognizing that the film is paying homage to a different style.

Only an idiot or very young person can't recognize the difference between homage and parody.

Jesus christ, you are treating stylistic choice as if they are plot holes. Why do some guitarists put reverb on their amp and why do some use a clean tone? Why do some painters use primary colors vs pastels? It's all stylistic reasons meant to evoke a specific feeling.

So why does QT decide to add wacky sound effects to action sounds? Because it mimics older action movie but also creates a fun playful dynamic to let us know that even though things are violent, they are meant to be fun. The hyperviolence is so bloody that its unreal, its him winking at us that this is a silly action movie and we should have fun watching it. It's constantly reminding you that it is a movie and that you are in on the premise.

This feels like explaining a joke to an autistic person and they just ask why is that funny.

I saw that coming a mile away. I fully expected Ishii's mother to be raped when she was hiding under the bed, but I guess they're only allowed one rape per movie. Also Uma Thurman is not hot at all

I can't stand Tarantino's style change between 1997 and 2004. He went from gritty witty crime hangout movies to exploitation schlock. OUATIH is the closest hes come to returning to his 90s style and it was his best movie of the last 20 years
