His style is fricking cancerous. Taika Cohen is a shining example of 21st century insincerity and post-modern pop culture masturbation. His films mock their own existence and any time they show any semblance of genuineness he insults the audience with another shitty joke that deflates the tension. It’s cowardly filmmaking and barely qualifies as art.
It reminds of when Michael Haneke criticized Schindler’s List because it had a very sentimentalist approach with Hollywood tropes that turned the Holocaust into a sort of thrill ride. We’re now at the point where we have films like Jojo Rabbit where the Holocaust is a quirky comedy set to David Bowie music.
Heneke is a hack, and the holocaust was always over the top bulshittery, but there was no one then to call it out and now it's codified into history / culture that no one even dares
It looks genuinely awful even for an MCU movie. Like they're putting in the absolute bare minimum because they know people will watch it anyways.
