x-men had issues but it started to go very downhill after bendis because bendis shit on beast when beast was the only one that did not want to do krakoa glowie shit. nightcrawler was also against it but was conveniently killed off.

The X-men went to shit when every single character drank dumbfrick juice and embraced Magneto moronic mutant separtism idea. That clearly makes no sense in universe and in real life and Magneto was clearly supposed to be totally nuts for trying to make it a thing.

Manga artists are also often the writers for their work. If their story fails to meet expectations, then they just get canceled and the artist is out of a job until they come up with something new.
Some artists team up with a writer but most don't.
