        >He gets voice work
Honestly, that's the fricking golden goose. Voice work is WAAAAAY easier than showrunning, and if you can get roles on good shows, it cumulatively pays insanely well considering full seasons are usually recorded within a few days.

Matthew Braly had recently spoken out about creating a show these days. Basically he said that it was a great experience to do one and it single-handedly slingshots your clout through roof, but it's perhaps not worth it to do a second show. From the perspective of people who haven't gone through that gauntlet, it's hard to imagine that you wouldn't want to get more of your ideas out into the world, but I can 100% understand why the cost vs reward may be skewed against the creator.

It seems like the smart move is to do one show, and then use that notoriety to do guest spots here and there either as producer, voice actor, storyboarder, etc.

        >Hirsch desperately came crawling back to Disney
That's not how it works. If creators could just beg their way back into having a show again, we'd see it a lot more often. There are plenty of creators who have expressed interest in continuing their show or doing a spinoff, but there wasn't any interest from networks.

Because this news is coming from an exec and NOT Hirsch himself (who has, as far as I know, never spoken about wanting to continue the Gravity Falls franchise in an animated form), I think it's more that Disney would like to cash in on that sweet sweet Gravity Falls fandom. It's unclear whether or not they've even really spoken about it. All she said was that they were doing the book and are open to the idea of doing more with the series...for all we know, this could be the first Hirsch is hearing about it.

Guys, it's been common knowledge for ages that Gravity Falls was a big enough moneymaker that Disney sucked up hard to Hirsch in the hopes of squeezing more out of him, but he didn't really care about the show and was too dysfunctional to make more than what we got. It's Disney trying to get Hirsch to do a project he doesn't want to do, not the other way around.

Oh Disney definitely wants to cash in on the Gravity Falls Fandom, they should also cash in on the Amphibia and Owl House fandoms as well. Considering they are agreed to all be part of the same universe.

Amphibia ended and Owl House was an objective failure that has people online only pretend to care because there's two underage lesbian girls, but never officially watched
Gravity Falls was widely popular, over a decade old and has a very strong fanbase. Very easy to see why that would be considered for a sequel

TV and Disney+. Youtube wasn't even that high

BCG only had better average ratings in the first season which was released before TOH, after TOH started airing it consistently beat BCG's concurrently airing seasons in ratings

Lol nope, and funny you didn't note premiers either
BCG has beat TOH in all Disney+ ratings since it came out, and very close to all tv ratings
There's a reason it had a film debut today and the show got cancelled and its final season basically eliminated

You know that the company isn't in good times and for what reasons, right?

They resort to this, and more to an animated show concluded with legacy, esteem and trajectory; in a desperate attempt to seek audience and notoriety to it's network.

If this is genuine , , then would be a "safe" product or medium where it would not compromise the legacy of the show/franchise.

Furthermore, after everything that Hirsch has expressed about the company...do you really think?

The former would especially be relevant since Dipper would absolutely know about the Frogpocalypse and wouldn’t buy the cover up. Plus it’s within a day’s drive

          >the show made her irredeemable and soulless
I can see that if we take the show at face value, but it's pretty clear it was written from Dipper's perspective. If we look at the show from a objective experience Mabel can be kind of shitty, but what transpired is filtered through Dipper's subjective experience.
It's like if you say something embarrassing at an event, the situation will be recreated in your head that someone may have baited you and then everyone laughed and after you left people kept talking about how stupid you were. In reality, none of that may have happened and the event barely registered on peoples' radar, but if you were to tell the story about what happened, you may include those details.

This is a good storytelling tactic since Dipper is the character the audience is supposed to identify with. The truth of what transpired may be bent to get the audience to understand what he was feeling at various points in the story.

        Anonymous

Projection is always going to be a part of writing since writers draw from personal experience and observation to create compelling characters, but in this case, it seems that the writer misunderstands the character and is writing what they'd want her to be as opposed to what she actually is.

There's nothing to indicate that Wendy is into large men or women. If anything, she seems to show a preference for skinny guys and perhaps when she gets older, she'll shift towards fit since she comes from a lumberjack family. One could make the argument that she'd be attracted to someone like her dad who is a muscular archetype, but she didn't show any sort of predilection towards the video game character when he came to life or her boss at the pool. As far as liking fat girls...why? Wendy seems to enjoy being active (she's a lumberjack and a lifeguard). I just don't see it.

wendy was probably the last notable female character in a cartoon i liked, and the series ended just when everything started to go to shit so you had her punching a tree and screaming "we're women we take what we want" but she wasn't completely ruined. some shitty bi inclusion would finish killing her and just make her like everyone else. and i know it'll happen one day. i wouldn't be surprised if the show never came back but more hirsch-approved releases like the bill cipher book took the chance to say "and yes, wendy dated some girls in high school! and she's got her eye on someone pretty cool now too with shaved hair!"

It's going to be a DTVA show, it will be restrictive as frick like S3 Amphibia and he wants for the show to be serialized as frick, it'll be axed eventually like TOH.
If it's going to be D+ show then there's no problem as long as it doesn't get binge format.

Also GF doesn't give me the vibe for it to have a continuation like TOH or Amphibia could have.

Mabel will be a lesbian, Dipper will be an embittered loser with a failed relationship, bill cipher will come back to life (rendering the original series pointless) and the new main character will be some hateful brown oc that is better than dipper in every way. It will also had some member berries nostalgia pandering while also insulting tha fans of the first series.

Yeah I feel like if this happened Dipper would definitely be an incel perma loser and they’d really harp on that while Stan and Ford would be portrayed as abusive in a serious sense to the point they’d be the actual villains. Mabel, Pacifica, and Wendy would realize how horrible all men are as the main message of the revival.

It seems like for the past decade or more reboots and revivals need to show what evil losers all of the male characters really are, and that’s a main focus.

FTFY, this is not a joke, they would probably bring a black friend/rival Dipper had and that was never mentioned before, only for him to be depicted as being better than Dipcuck, either that or some brown or indian girl for extra lesbo/troony points.

I totally get that you dislike the guy, but he created a show that still resonates with people to this day. He's hardly a hack. And this thread is about how Disney is very much interested in working with him again, so he obviously hasn't burned any bridges. If anything, he's totally cucked Disney since he talked shit about them and they want to come back for more, so like him or hate him, he's won.

Sounds like he has integrity. He could either keep the show going on autopilot as a joyless cash grab, or end it when he was no longer feeling like it was something he wanted to do.

          >now and we have to believe they are going to beg?
I mean, they are the ones who are trying to re-open doors, so yeah...they pretty much are.

I know that you have a raging hate-boner for the guy so you want everything to be his fault, but if you look at it through another lens, Hirsch played this right and is coming out on top.

Disney really needs to create a UK division like cartoon network, and get British people take care of their new projects. That's the only way I see Gravity falls coming back decently as a Disney animated series.
If not, preferably wait ten years at least after it ended to think of a continuation. But really,

It's rare that creators these days create more than one show. Daron Nefcy? One. Rebecca Sugar? One. Ian JQ? One. Dana Terrace? One. Matthew Braly? One. Radford Sechrist? One. Even Cinemaphile's beloved Danny Antonucci. One (and he came from a time period where people typically had several shows).

The old Gen X creators have a few under their belt, and there are a couple of outliers like J.G. Quintel who managed to make 2 shows, but it's hard to hold Hirsch's one show against him when that's pretty much all creators get these days.

J.G. Quintel really should count as only ONE since Close Enough wasn't even that successful because it got sabotaged by its own network.

          >J.G. Quintel really should count as only ONE
I don't want to split hairs here. Everyone has their personal opinions when it comes to this shit so for the sake of this argument, two different show names = two different shows regardless of the circumstances.

The point is that the old model doesn't apply anymore. Long gone are the days of Hanna-Barbera cranking out show after show, and even the Gen-X vanguard is having trouble getting new shows greenlit. It's EXTREMELY rare that new creators get to make more than one show (and in the days of endless reboots, prequels, and sequels, being able to make anything original at all is a major accomplishment)

The Antonucci thing is especially poignant. He made one show, then had the plug pulled on a second attempt. Anons hate to see the parallels between Antonucci and Hirsch, but on paper, they're hard to differentiate.

Netflix rolled back on almost all of it's in-house animation. Now they're offering laughably low buyouts for exclusive licensing of shows made by 3rd parties. There's been no word as to whether Lighthouse Bluff has been canned or not, but at this point, it would be surprising if it was basically the only in-house animated production that survived.

People with a hate-boner want to make this about Hirsch's personal failures, but it's hard to defend that position when NF pulled the plug across the board.

Gravity Falls was hitting seasonal rot tier filler episodes as early as S2B AND was also dipping below 1M viewers *in 2015* which was abysmal at the time. Anyone who thinks a revival could capture 10% of what made the show big back then is thoroughly deluded.

Reasonably pessimistic prediction, if it ever gets revived:
    >it's worse than the original
    >needlessly edgy now that Hirsch can get away with it
    >Bill returns and becomes more obnoxious
    >Dipper grew up to be a loser
    >more Mabel asskissing
    >ton of virtue signaling

Ah wait nevermind, I read the screencap again, it's just Disney. Disregard half of what I said, but it'd still probably be bad if it did get revived on Disney.
