In 2006, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, citing new competition from other stores and foreign imports.[4] While a majority of stores closed at this time, some independent franchises continued including locations at Rhode Island's Warwick Mall, which closed in 2012, and at Florida's Volusia Mall, which closed in 2016.

Fucking 80s, man, best shit ever. Bet your ass, man.

Guns N' Roses fucking rules. Crüe. Def Lep.

Then that Cobain pussy had to come around and ruin it all. Like there's something wrong with wanting to have a good time.

I'll tell you something. I hated the fucking 90s.

      90s fucking sucked.

Having grown up through the 80s and the early 90s, I'd have to say the 80s were a bit better, looking back. I know there's a large part of nostalgia since I was 5 in 1980 but "coming of age" in the 80s was unique. The 90s were fun though, no doubt but there was this sense of imagination during the 80s, this odd mixture of analog and digital. The future was going to be fucking awesome.

millenials get all nostalgic for blockbuster for some reason but the mall was the true kino to fill that gap between becoming a teenager and your first friend getting their license
      >get parents to drop you off
      >meet friends
      >drink, smoke, fuck around
      >maybe see a movie or dick around in the arcade
      >teenage girls everywhere, mostly unknowns from other schools
      >shoplift for kicks
      >eat junkfood
      >explore the employee walkways and loading docks until kicked out
      >pull dumb pranks like setting off stinkbombs in the foodcourt
      >call parents to pick you up a few hours after unsupervised teenage freedom
      >repeat until friend gets drivers license

Yup those were the days. Also the mall had pet stores so you can hang out with girls while playing with puppies or ferrets, or whatever. Bitches love pets

      Is that the Denver airport?

I once chatted up a girl because she was autistically throwing her water bottle up in the air and catching it. It was the sort of thing I would do if I were bored in a mall so I found it endearing. I came to find out the two people sitting on the bench right next to us were her parents and she was 15. I was like 25 at the time. Her parents didn't say anything, probably because the conversation was polite and not sexual. They were probably happy their weird daughter was getting attention from a boy. She was cute and seemed smart. I knew I should have bought a ring from one of the garden gnomeelers are proposed on the spot. Alas.

Does it have to be malls in particular or are random stores, houses, etc with an 80's/90's vibe ok?

My own aesthetic autistic fixation is 80's and 90's classroom decor. Especially Halloween and Christmas movies. But I didn't remember to back up my VLC screencaps last time I reinstalled my OS. Feels bad man.

The mall WAS the product. You didn't have to buy anything to hang out with your friends and do stupid shit in a nice environment. It's really impossible to explain unless you lived it in it's prime.

I actually think that contributed to the decline of malls to some extent. You could go to malls and see a few of the same chains, but there were a lot more regional stores so going to different malls was a different experience. Gradually those went out of business or got bought out (and rents went up) so only the national chains occupied mall space. Now 95% of malls are the same no matter where you go, the only really different ones are the really upscale malls where I can't afford to shop at anyway.
