Koala Man

New series by Michael Cusack and Justin Roiland for Hulu
>Harold Hill, er Hugh Jackman, has lined up a new gig: he’ll voice Big Greg in the upcoming Hulu Original animated comedy series Koala Man.
>The comedy is about a middle-aged dad named Kevin and his not-so-secret identity, whose only superpower is a burning passion for following rules and snuffing out petty crime in the Australian suburban town of Dapto. He’ll do whatever it takes to defeat villainous masterminds, supernatural horrors, or worse: jerks who don’t take their rubbish bins down on the proper days.
>Jackman, who’s currently headlining The Music Man on Broadway, will play the most well-liked man in Dapto and the head of the Town Council. Big Greg has only known success. Formerly the host of Fishing Big with Big Greg, Australia’s third most popular fishing show, Big Greg has ridden his celebrity into a trusted position in Dapto.
>Koala Man comes from Aussie creator/animator Michael Cusack, who also voices Kevin. It’s executive produced by Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland and Pokemon: Detective Pikachu writers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit. Michael Cowap also serves as executive producer for Princess Bento. Dana Tafoya Cameron and Ben Jones are executive producers for Bento Box Entertainment.
>Koala Man is produced by 20th Television Animation for Hulu. No airdate has been set.

I'm probably going to go watch those YouTube after work now knowing they're coming back.

What the hell, this shit is hilarious. I feel embarrassed for having never looked into Michael Cusack's work pre-Adult Swim. Real happy to know this guy's continued to find success. If Koala Man's even half as funny as Damo and Darren, I'll be a big fan.

I still quote "Ciggy butt brain" to this very day.

If anything it looks closer to Cusack's art style but more streamline.

It's kinda weird seeing Cusack becoming the next Roiland but I'm not complaining

Pretty surprising to see Michael Cusack handed the keys to the castle for a new show. Worried all the different hands will water down his style/humor, since his identity coming through in his cartoons is really what makes them unique. Also hate Hulu.

But good for him. Glad to see people I like succeed.

He's been cranking out stuff too, I guess they're grateful for how successful his other stuff and Smiling Friends has been that they're letting him make all this new shit.

I wonder if Zach is ever going to reach this level where he's thrown into random projects

If Smiling Friends season 2 does good too he could probably go into other shit if he wants to. Or he just spends all his time working on SF to not divert focus.

Probably eventually will. Smiling Friends gained a strong following and acclaim post release. I could see other streaming services approaching him to make a show for them. Or Zach pitching a show and having more clout because of the success of Smiling Friends. Think he will for now focus on Smiling Friends gaining more experience on running a show before moving to other projects.

Could be fun. Still kinda sucks that Roiland seems far more invested in working on countless other projects, but doesn't bother maintaining even a minor role in the Rick and Morty writers' room. I really don't think that was something he wanted to be working on for 10+ years, but now he's obligated.

Considering what has happen to the show and it's insufferable fanbase, I see why he has checked out.

I remember when the riots happened. Harmon was tweeting angry at McDonald's while Roiland was apologizing about the fans.

I really liked the Koala man shorts he did for the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Network), so it'd be fun to see this as a full thing. It's great that something that someone aussie made finally makes it while still being uniquely aussie, been a while since that happened.
Also getting Hugh Jackman is a big deal.

Is Justin Roiland the new Matt Groening or Seth MacFarlane?

      Anonymous

That's been apparent for years now. Roiland is already getting deals to create and/or produce new shows left and right, not to mention the several recent adult cartoons he's not involved with that were clearly designed to ape off Rick and Morty's success with similarly crude art styles.

Aussie themes are underused in the anglosphere so seeing Cusack's stuff is a breath of fresh air.
