this movie looked like some youtube trash by the trailers and the fact it has a 4.5 on letterboxd and is one of the most circlejerked and praised movies every just within the last 4 months cemented it as pure dogshit to me, so I have had no desire to watch it but i bet it's mostly mediocre all around and general audiences have proven they have no taste at all.

Your philosophy is easily broken by things or films being subversive pleasant surprises by the general audiences. Your prediction for how good or shit something is is only going to be tangential to you and with that you never have to push outside your boundaries. It's stupid and childish

So do the Russo brothers. I guarantee Infinity War was a far more challenging movie to make than Swiss Army Man. Doesn't make any of these people auteurs.

I think we can usually tell the difference between a director servicing a job and a director with an idea. Corporate swap and artistic vision is pretty easy to pick apart and dissect. However there's a lot of crossbreeding between the two which is why we'll get something like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

It has a few good moments and a nice underlying theme but those are buried under shitty jokes that keep coming back and hitting you over the head. And I mean the kind of jokes you'd see from a 12 year old who just found out about sex toys. Also the movie is about 30 minutes too long.
The style reminds me of Stephen Chow's work, but he does it about 10 times better than this.

Innovations in film are constantly being made and done by people creative enough to achieve it. The demand for high quality graphics is exactly the same kind of demand for more realistic CGI also directors cuts exist which is literally extra shit added in. You're failing to make your case here. Not to mention most video game developers at least the creatives behind them don't want their game saturated with a bunch of mindless bullshit that's usually the publishers

Yeah, really. It's just a hodgepodge of multiversal concepts and ideas already covered by Rick And Morty and the MCU. Complete with superpowers, spastic editing, and wacky non-sequiturs.

            Anonymous

It's not really same thing however, it's not literal capeshit and it's urban fantasy type of deal. It's not my thing, but it's still more ''new'' than the rest.

              Anonymous

It's a derivative mashup of Stephen Chow and that Rick And Morty episode where they watch inter-dimensional cable. There's nothing new about it.

                Anonymous

There is almost nothing new about most things, but it's different from what you usually see, I have not seen Stephen Chow or RnM, so I can't say how close that is, but multiverse stuff is not even that common of a theme on tv, so there is no problem with it.

                Anonymous

The multiverse is the gimmick that the MCU has been diving headlong into for the past four years. Just because you aren't familiar with the things it's "borrowing" from doesn't mean it's original. It's unoriginal even if you adopt a more charitable outlook than "there are only two stories, Cinderella and Jack and the Beanstalk" type cynicism.

                Anonymous

Well, you don't have to leave multiverse aside because MCU used it, they didn't invent the concept anyway.

This movie was literally co-produced by the Russos, it's a wacky adventure film about multiverses and interdimensional superpowers, it's capeshit whether you care to admit it or not. If Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness is capeshit, so is this.

It annoyed the shit out of me for many of the same reasons as Swiss Army Man. The general consensus when that movie came out was "Love it or hate it, you gotta see it! It's just so wild and inventive and different! It's a breath of fresh air!" when that's not true at all. It's 'weird' in an entirely palatable, even fashionable way. It's the typical type of quirky twee sensibility and wacky irreverent humor that's already been run into the ground by people like Wes Anderson, the Duplass brothers, etc. except considerably more vapid and cutesy. There's even life-affirming car commercial indie pop with hand claps all over the soundtrack. The farting corpse stuff is tantamount to lolrandom humor and the way the film redeems the suicidal main character is totally devoid of any insight, it's the equivalent of some new age hippie with brain damage telling you "b-but life is beautiful! There's beauty all around you! Wear this crystal around your neck." The main thing the film is praised for, which is taking a totally absurd premise and finding genuine pathos and emotion/depth is 100% unfounded praise as it attempts that but totally fails.

More or less the same thing is true for Everything Everywhere All At Once. It covers entirely familiar ground and yet it gets all this unsubstantiated praise for being different when it's basically a mashup of MCU Phase 4, Stephen Chow and second rate wannabe Rick and Morty absurdism. It's about as 'wild' or 'inventive' as an ad for Old Navy. The "tough questions" it poses are underwhelming lip service to pop 101 existential nihilism and the only answers it has in response to the challenges it poses are half-baked tripe like "yeah but family is really important and stuff. love the moment you're in! Life being limited means it's precious!" This is part of why it feels so intolerably long, because it has no structure, no stakes, and it's about as deep as a puddle.

tl;dr I hated it and these Daniels guys are hacks.

maybe people are so used to a sea of trash and capeshit that when they see something above average that's not the same mcu crap, they think it's a revelation or maybe it's because it's similar to mcu and that's why they find it so appealing.

Having gotten an inkling of the rave response to this film, I had an uneasy feeling going in. So many people had, in so many words, basically crowned it “the greatest film ever made.” How could it possibly live up to the hype? I reeeeeeally wanted to be wrong. Well, I wasn’t. For all its sausage fingers and dominatrix jokes, what EEAAO comes down to in the end is Coelho-esque creampuff philosophy with insights that can be summarized on a bumpersticker. And of course people are loving it; we live in the universe where Rupi Kaur is hailed as a great poet and Jordan Peterson as a great philosopher.

EEAAO is completely void of cinematic artistry. It is an assault of, admittedly creative and sometimes even funny, visual noise stitched together by dialogue. Oh lord, the dialogue. The first half of the script is spent on unadorned exposition that the writers have not even tried to integrate smoothly. The movie just stops so that a character can vomit information we need to make sense of the barrage of insanity. The second half, then, is dedicated to beating us over the head with a moralizing poor man’s Albert Camus-redux of a message (a major chunk of which is literally delivered through on screen text over an image of the grand canyon). God forbid a medium called “motion picture” convey anything through, y’know, pictures.
