Did the blue wizards turn evil? I thought I remembered that all Tolkien said about them is they fricked off somewhere. I got the impression they forgot what they were supposed to be doing.

The blue wizards simply forgot their mission and that's all we know.

In The Unfinished Tales it says they travelled east with Saruman, but only Saruman came back.

This is the last that Tolkien wrote about them and therefore the ultimate canon ending for them. I don't want to see you guys get this wrong in future threads.

and thus, in my books at least (pun intended) they are both canon.

I don't know much Tolkien lore but I would guess for the same reason that the Fellowship split up to begin with. The ring corrupts. I'm sure the Eagles would not have been immune to its influence

How about you hear the man himself tell you exactly why.

        sauron had air superiority

doesn't explain lonely mountain. they had no reason to not take the eagles to there 🙂

You're assuming the Eagles would have wanted to take them there. I'm sure the Eagles had better shit to do

What do you mean, Tolkien wrote them though? His son just put them in order and fixed spelling mistakes and what not.

only rings of power and the hobbit movies are canon sweetie

It is canon, and Saruman killed the blue wizards in the east, because he had already turned evil because he was jealous the elves gave a ring to gandalf and not him.

When i first watched these movies as a moronic kid i thought the white haired wizard was an older version of the grey haired one from the future who turned evil, and came back in time to do his evil stuff

I was very confused by the ending of the first one when I saw it in theaters. I didn't get why they just cut it so suddenly before they could destroy the ring. I remember the whole theater being filled with confused murmuring, people being like "huh?" and "what?"

When I saw Return of the King in theaters the theater clapped at Legolas taking down the Olyphant.

Also, more than once towards the very end a few different people got up and were aiming to leave, before sitting back down, because they thought the movie was about to roll credits (thje whole infamous "ROTK has like 5 different endings" meme/talking point).

Oh yeah, I remember that too. The audience went wild at multiple points during ROTK. My most memorable theater experience, going with my best friend who was as obsessed with the movies as I was. We all joked around about the 50 different endings afterwards

I think that's just him getting into character. Obviously Saruman does not believe that he himself is evil, but just pragmatic

        >he just serves the dark lord
No, you goddamn movie babby. Book Sarumon was basically trying to double cross Sauron, that's why he was actively trying to get the ring for himself and why he misled the Ringwraiths when they passed by Isengard on their way to the Shire from Mordor. He was seduced by the power offered by The Ring, not by Sauron himself.

I think the Orcs live under communism as housing, clothing, and food (even if it's just maggoty bread) is all provided to them by the State. It's a cashless society.
