The Witcher had at least one person on staff who cared about the integrity of the story/lore. Please don't lump it in with Wheel of Time and Rings of Power.

It's amazing how you can have some of the greatest fictional material to work with, and a billion dollars, and STILL manage to not only frick it, but frick it up royally by writing fanfiction.
Genuinely embarrassing, and is one of the biggest reasons corporations should never even touch the arts in the first place.
They wrote fanfiction specifically because Amazon didn't actually get the rights to LOTR, Hobbit or Silmarillion. They have rights to just Middle-earth and anything that's mentioned in the appendix of LOTR or Silmarillion but they can't actually adapt the stories
>Amazon didn't actually get the rights to LOTR, Hobbit
wtf you talking about of course they have. They bought the TV rights to both of those books. >Silmarillion
Not this though
It strengthens my point about >corporations should never even touch the arts in the first place.
Because they're too genuinely stupid to know what book is what and they don't care. Business suits do not give a shit about telling a great story or adapting the books or anything like that anyway, only if the money is flowing in.
They have the rights to LotR (including appendix) and The Hobbit which is why they had to write a whole second age series off 1 page in the LotR appendix
How did the plumbing at Bag End cope with Gandalf's giant shits? His turds would be like three times the volume of Bilbo's. Why did no thought go into this?
It doesn't matter, the show is the officially produced prequel to the LOTR books. Tolkien Estate are the ones who control what happens with Tolkien's books, they wanted a prequel series produced based on the LOTR.
Even explains as such on their official website, doesn't even acknowledge the Bakshi or Jackson movies because they they have nothing to do with them so they washed their hands over them.
Meaningless, if you know what the stories are even supposed to be. Nothing is 'canon', but is all presented in the Red Book of Westmarch, translated by JRR Tolkien. The development of languages were the primary driving purpose of his stories and what they enabled was world-building so consistent and important to the stories that no one could ever come so close. They could at least try though, because Tolkien's major works are themselves handbooks for understanding them. RoP therefore has to be interpreted as if it was following the rules, but the showrunners flippantly stomp all over them without seeming to have a clue to the what it could mean. Heads full of JJ Abrams rot when it comes to writing.

They don't sign off on every creative decision and it's lawyers that decide what is and isn't useable. Neither of those has anything to do with story 'canon' and everyone I have ever seen blather on about 'canon' in regards to Tolkien seems surprised to learn the only 'canon' by authorial intent is that it is a partial translation of a very large and ancient book. This actually gave tremendous creative freedom even under licensing restrictions, and Tolkien wrote volumes of fiction that explained in their text how to write them effectively.
Maybe the RoP showrunners would have known this if they hadn't scared off the original Tolkien scholar consulting for them before he had enough of their bullshit.

No you're just complaining saying you think you know better about what is canon than the actual people who own the story and can edit it as they wish. The estate knew the content of RoP before it was published and they signed off on it, they condone it. Every creative decision of RoP was subject to review by the estate as part of the terms of their contract.
Brainlet is whoever wrote the line about why rocks sink(cos they don't look up, so wisdom, much Tolkien language)
If you don't understand metaphors and why children like being told stories through metaphors you really need to touch grass. You know that dinosaurs don't talk either right? Most kids shows and stories for kids are stupid if you take them literally.

Ok but the metaphor makes no fricking sense. It, and most of the other pseudo 'profound' lines in the series, are like they were written by an AI chatbot that has analysed tolkien, only an AI chat bot would probably have done a much better job.

The metaphor does make sense though. The ship (Galadriel) tries to do the right thing and follow the light, and the rock(the bully) doesn't and instead goes down into darkness. And ships especially ancient ones have longstanding connections to lights, such as guiding stars and lighthouses. They also have connotations of exploration and bravery like Galadriel does, and the ship she made was a small sign of her using magic which she will become great at later. You're really making a mountain out of a molehill.
The amazon shilling operation has really dialed down the praise. It has gone from "I was literally crying tears of joy" to "it's fine"

She didn’t want to be Mrs. Evil Overlord, that’s all. She dragged him out of Numenor but let’s face it, he totally would have taken it over in a few decades.
How? He's so far shown all the cunning required to be slightly smarter than NuGaladriel, which really isn't all that impressive. They had once chance to get the first season right, and they can't go back and change it. If RoP continues, it will be a triumph of marketing over art.
>cheap out on writing budget
wtf is a writing budget? Kek
Anyway I bet they payed Gen Hutchinson a ton to poach her from Better Call Saul. She's one of the most sought after writers in the industry.
The writing is fine. The dialog is mostly good and not modernized. The actual plot itself is pretty solid and the main complaint people have is its deviation from the source, but that is to expected in any adaptation. Most of the character arcs and relationships feel natural and earned. Its above average writing for a modern TV show.
Yeah that's one line out of 8+ hours of content, and he says it because Halbrand literally steals his guild crest and beats him up. You sound like a triggered brainlet.
i remember the boat scene, but only because i re-watched it so many times trying to figure out how they pulled it off with such a small budget. Other than that the writing was like YouTube short tier, but maybe that's because it was so low budget...
The only thing I’ll remember about this show is when this blonde girl sucked on my giant wiener while the mighty dwarf music played during the credits at the end of some episode (can’t even remember which). Too bad she moved away that week.
so what?
You just remembered it though

It's still shit though, sure you can want Cavill to succeed since he's just like me but the show was trash from the beginning

Tolkien Estate should've given the rights to HBO and told them to make a better pitch

Because what this show really needed was a troony and homosexualry mandate?
Yes. At least the writing would be better than this shit.
>Yes to trannies and homosexualry in Middle Earth

My guess is they used the feces to help make the plants and vegetables grow out of the ground.
