What would a 2022 version of that comic say?

Plays out the same but at the end everyone just stares at her for the weird comment.

Wouldn't make sense nowadays, any final remnants of the notion that geek culture is somehow niche or underground has long been shattered.

        Anonymous

I think it's gone to the other side of the scale now where "geeky" tends to be obnoxious fandom shit for people that can't separate reality from fiction.
So, avoided again but for different reasons.

I guess, but my point is it's no longer hidden. The comic portrays being a gamer as something you have to use secret code to find others in the in group. And even in 2010 that was kind of an outdated mindset, but nowadays being a "gamer" is about as meaningful as being a fan of movies, it's just the norm.

Man, the money people waste on collecting these is sad... They are cheap collectibles meant for poor people who can't afford to buy real models or commission them. It's just cheap plastic that's never going to have real value. Actual collectibles retain their value for decades and can become more valuable over time, this shit is just destined for landfill someday after it's changed hands a couple of times and been depreciated of all it's value.

I dream one day a new plastic continent will float on the Pacific, comprised of 40% Funkos.

Same can be said of any figurine.

Mostly true but every so often you hear about toys that are selling 100x what they were at retail like those starwars minifigs that cameout in 80s. It's all subjective and it's hard to tell whata actually going to be a valuable collectible in the moment but Im going to guess that 99.9 percent of Funko pops aren't going to see their value increase overtime because people usually only buy them for 2 reasons. 1 they are to poor to buy the real thing, and 2 there isn't any other merchandise for whatever it is they want.

Let me introduce you to the wonderful world of Warhammer Fantasy and 40K. Keep in mind these figures are about 4-5cm tall, you have to assemble them yourself, you have to paint them yourself, and practically everything is sold separately.
            >Space Marine Combat Patrol set - $127.50
            >Citadel paints - $6-$11 per pot (12-25mL)
            >Citadel brushes - $9.50 - $37.99
            >Spray primer - $12
            >Warhammer 40,000 Core Book - $59.50
            >Warhammer invidual army codexes - $40-$47
            >Clippers and plastic glue - $10-$20
            And that's just the start.

don't forget the price of your soul printing all the FAQs
Also they banned some of the armies from tournaments, so you could end up playing no one.

It maybe expensive but I see the Warhammer stuff as a creative way to express yourself artistically. I think it's way over priced but if it wasn't I'd buy them because it sounds fun. Much better then buying soulless Funko pops.

There's plenty of cheaper alternatives. Either from different genres or from 3rd party printers with legally distinct alternatives. Wargames Atlantic for minis, Army Painter for paints and there's a bunch more I don't even know of.
But if you want to start painting minis do yourself a favor and watch a lot of videos on how to prime, paint and prepare your work space. There's a lot of small tips and tricks that'll make your first time easier. Like using brush-on primer if you can't use spray primer.

Good luck anon! Check with your local game store if they have some kind of mini painting 101 class. Even if they don't they may know of one that does.

It's really dishonest to mention the price of a big bundle box and then show a picture of a non-bundle box
Also no one uses Shitadel tools or brushes
Also no one pays for codices

I started writing about the intercessor box, but then changed it to the combat patrol box. I should have changed the picture and didn't feel like it, thought people would read the different names and figure it out.

Portal is like two hours long.

just because you like some aspects of a game, or even just the fandom, doesn't mean you like the game itself. Same applies to cartoons and other media. Many people claim to like a show, when in reality they only like a single character in it. Thus when that characters gets killed off they suddenly shit on the show for changing, when in reality it's the exact same show just without the one character they actually like.

Thus this portal girl just likes the aesthetics, idea and fandom, but an ego shooter puzzle game is not what she enjoys, otherwise she would have beaten it already.

Portal is about as long as a movie, and you don't see anyone saying "oh I love that movie! never watched the entire thing though" without being clowned. Also saying you love something implies several playthroughs, so she is by definition a fake and shallow nerd.

The early 2010's was truly the most unfunny era of memes. People complain about zoomers beating a joke to death but the cake is a lie and arrow to the knee were just as annoying if not moreso.

Reminder: when both sides of the political spectrum hate you, even at different times, it's usually for a good reason.
