Worse (for Disney). The new Spiderverse movie was produced by Sony, Columbia and Disney (Mervel), because of all of the characters in it. It's a very diluted profit pool. Also add in Pascal Pictures (Amy Pascal, she's the wienerroach who almost killed Sony who they can't get rid of), Lord Miller, the writers and producers, and Arad Productions, the Isreali guy who started Marvel Studios and sold it to Disney, but keeps his fingers in anything Marvel related.

Disney isn't make much of Spiderverse. Not enough to move any needles, anyway.

I think she has a fat blackmail folder, like Kennedy does. Pascal should have been fired and ostracized from town, but she came out of that whole fiasco with lucrative production deals.

I wonder how mad she is that the Barbie movie is setting up to be a hit, when she tried to make it with Amy Schumer.

Spiderverse is mostly Sony. They get a cut, but most of the money goes to Sony, and Universal is in the mix too.
They have a bleak couple of years coming, if not more. Star Wars is dead, and if Kennedy is allowed to make another Rey fiasco, then they'll just lose more millions. Indiana Jones is dead. Pixar is failing, Marvel is dead in the water, with no stars or characters left that anyone cares about.
The only thing that can "save them" is returning to good movies, fresh ideas, and talent. Even then, this kind of damage takes years to get the public back in the door.
Iger tripled down on woke. As long as he is in charge, and the board backing him, Disney will keep failing. They are not too big to fail.
The bigger picture is the parks. They keep Disney afloat. But they're doubling down on troony shit, so...who knows? They may have to start selling off assets, like the Fox library, that they haven't done shit with.

I got plenty of popcorn to watch it all burn down.

Last time disney got complacent in the late nineties, it took the better part of a decade for them to recover before they were reliably making hits again, even longer when you discount the studios they bought out in the interim.
Given there's no budding phenomena to buy out this time, and that they don't have the talent to ease back into good movies, I'm curious how they'll handle it.

        Anonymous

It's fun to speculate but this honestly isn't the first time that Disney has been in a badnplace. The 60s up the 80s were bad for them as well until The Little Mermaid and the 2000s were a second dark age for them as well until Tangled and Frozen and the MCU took off. Disney has the money to weather rhe storm but they do need to correct course

          Anonymous

I'm well aware of Disney's history. That's why I say they're not too big to fail - at least the movie division, which is only about 17-20% of their profits.
The parks pay for everything, but you might see Disneyworld starting to fail, because libs won't go to Florida "BeCaUsE iTs nOt SaFe fOr mY gEnDer"

The parks will have a problem if there is a recession, taking a family of 4 to one park for one day now is $600+ and that's not including parking, food, hotel, airfare, etc.
They just shut down that star wars hotel thing because it was too fricking expensive and nobody went to it.

You’d be surprised how big of a slice merchandising is. Star Wars the movie didn’t make George Lucas a billionaire. Star Wars merchandise made George Lucas a billionaire. The movies were a story, sure, but many of the decisions in their production were explicitly made based on what toys they could sell
Disney’s like that. Movies drive merch and park attractions, so if the movies are shit then people don’t go to the parks as much (money) or buy the merch (big money)

Taxes are paid on net income. A write off/down is accounting for a loss on income for some reason, which then overall decreases tax liability. Basically you pay less taxes because you made less income.

A scenario: you buy 100 tons of grain and are able to sell 80 tons with 10 tons spoiling and another 10 left unsold. You'd write off the 10 tons spoilage and subtract the cost paid for it from the profit you made on the 80 ton sale so your taxable income is the 80t sale minus 10t cost minus any other expenses. Your assets are the cash from selling 80t and the 10t of grain not spoiled. In a way the write off is another expense from doing business like paying labor or warehousing etc., just one that ideally is 0 since it's a waste. Some obvious things are that it would be better to sell all 100t of grain or have a profitable movie, and that the write off only helps with taxes particularly when there already is an income (no cash back from being in the red)

The thing about Netflix is that even though they lose more money than they make their stocks are always soaring, so they can continue existing without much efforts on investor's money. Netflix are lucky enough to be the most popular streaming streaming platform and that's enough to keep investors confident and happy. Because in their mind they think that streaming is the future and if Netflix can't be profitable then no one else can, so they keep funneling money non-stop without a care in the world.

What's really crazy is Netflix has some genuine kinos thrown in amongst all the crap. They also have HUGE budget movies made by A-list directors and actors. But their curation absolutely sucks. You'd never know they were even there if you didn't see them the first week of release. Go watch the first 10 minutes of 6 underground. It's basically Michael Bay just burning fricking money on European car chases and crashing. Has to be the most expensive shit he's ever shot, all because Netflix was dumb enough to give him the money to do it. Do they promote this movie in any sort of way considering that massive investment. Nope, if you didn't watch it when it was front page however many months ago it dropped, you'll never see them mention it again. It's insane.

What's funny is that Netflix used to have a rating system where you can tell whether something they made was good or bad and easily sort it out. Then they removed it because of amy schumer and now nobody can tell what's good or bad so they just stop watching netflix altogether.

People don't watch Netflix because almost 75% of their stuff is woke or garbage, and because they basically have no licensed movies since companies would rather keep their content than help Netflix

Netflix is basically like Amazon was prior to the last couple years, where Amazon basically never made money, but investors didn't care because they kept growing market share and business areas and believed that they would one day become super profitable as a result.

Difference is that Amazon kept growing while Netflix is shrinking.

They are also loosing money the slowest out of the streamers, so it's basically a giant game of chicken. What's gonna happen eventually is that there will be more mergers until there is like 3 streamers charging 25 bucks per month so that they can all be profitable and almost everyone will have all three. So basically cable, but on demand

The growth of streamng services is dwindeling down. There are just too many of them and while they try to batlle with original material, most of it is so bland and forgettable, that people aren't biting.

To this day, Netflix has never made profit. It has been around for so long now, that investors are starting to expect profit. Something has to give and I'd expect that something to be, that streaming services start licensing their stuff to traditional TV channles, as my of them are far more protable than the streaming revolution is.

Netflix could make a profit if they had decent quality of content. But any show they make of actually decent quality they often cancel after the first season because it didn't get enough initial buzz. There's legit just nothing worth watching on there at this point. I guess maybe the final season of stranger things when it comes out? But really what else does Netflix even have?

Netflix has been really good at making flavour-of-the-month content.
Stranger Things, The Queen's Gambit, The Dahmer show, Tiger King, Squid Game etc
These shows were all anyone could talk about for like a month or 2 after their release.
On the film front, they do the same thing with shit like The Gray Man, Extraction, Murder Mystery - films that aren't anything special but that everyone watches them because they're generic fun. And then they also have films like Roma, The Irishman, Blonde - their "acclaimed" oscar-b8 films to try and garner a reputation for making sophisticated films.
I honestly don't think they're given enough credit for the sheer volume of how much they produce.

Also, internet speed was horseshit 20-30 years ago, most of the people was not even on DSL.
I still remember the dial up of my shit 56k modem.

            Piracy was always frickhuge.

Piracy was so pervasive that they were running more PSA ads against it than they were against weed or cigarettes, that "you wouldn't download a car" shit was in movie theaters lol, Disney had a bunch of their shows do episodes about how bad piracy was. It's crazy how bad zoomies are with technology relative to where we were at that age.

Yes it was. No one paid for music unless they had rich parents. Anime was just as easy to steal back then as now. And movies and tv were arguably easier to steal since there was less content I'd out there

      >again
Piracy was never mainstream; it was always the domain of weird incels that spend too much time online. Couple that with zoomers not even knowing what p2p is and it's over for piracy.

why would you want torrenting to be mainstream? it'll only make the government take even more action.

Ok and now in their attempt to appeal to less than 1% of the population they've lost their primary consumers in the process. Good Job. Oh and it gets worse too because now people are avoiding ALL INBev products, not just Bud Light. The amount of sales they're losing increases every week and when the quarter ends their stock is going to plummet. They've already been warned by stores like Walmart that they need to fix their shit or they'll lose shelf space.

They only ever had three demos: college kids buying because it's cheap, bar patrons buying because it's all they've ever known, and people at sports or concerts buying because it's what's there. Now they have to hope people being held captive at live events will pay $15 for their swill when all venues have much better beers for maybe $18 instead. Anyone who has tried any other beer in the last month won't be coming back no matter how many 99% off sales Walmart runs because above all else it just doesn't taste good enough.

Bud Light was far and away the top beer brand in the US. Their marketing exec literally could have done nothing and be successful. She destroyed a brand over 100 years old in a single night

That's pretty much what they had been doing. They made one commercial a year for the Super Bowl for boomers who like the Clydesdales. All she needed to do was find smaller horses and say something like they're the light horse for light beer. But she wasn't there to make money.

lol no but you're a zoomer that doesn't watch tv so you wouldn't know. During the NFL season Bud Light shifts marketing into overdrive, it's not just the Super Bowl alone. They also advertise during just about every sport game and many stadiums exclusively sale only bud light. That's how much that dumb c**t fricked up a guaranteed thing.

idgaf about the bud light shit. If embev wanted to make BL the gayest beer on the planet then whatever because it's an item for adults. If some homosexual wants to be a degenerate and drink degenerate beer then that's their choice. You have to be over 21 to buy it. Now the Target stuff that aims directly at kids? THAT is a whole other issue. I get the shit storm about Bud Light but the stunt they pulled pales in comparison to Target.

Bud Light already had a reputation for being "piss water," so the convenience of not buying it is there and helped facilitate the boycott. If it was something more deeply ingrained and less stigmatized like Pepsi or Coca-Cola then it's probably a different story.

I still remember them claiming 10 years ago that slippery slope was a fallacy and they weren't targeting children. Here we are now and the slippery slope was proven to be real.

Literally everything they warned about when it comes to gays came true, or proved to be even worse than they imagined.

Notice that this homosexual didn't say he was wrong though.
Because children are being targeted and homosexuals keep saying "but it doesn't affect you", that's why I as a parent care. I've gone from apathetic to extremely upset about this gay shit in the last few years, and I'm very open about it nowadays.
The compelling thing for me is that a lot of people, even old school democrats, agree with me and share that sentiment. The Nashville shooting was a big wake up call to how dangerous and insidious this social contagion is.

You don't remember the Peloton woman? It was always a stupid controversy but it was a big deal with the extremely online crowd that she looked like a Stockholm syndrome victim riding that bike. Within a week Ryan Reynolds found her and filmed a commercial with her out at a bar "getting out of a bad relationship" for his gin brand. That was way harder than editing some stock footage of a horse running through a field with a voice over.

Royalties. A normal agreement for something like a cable network would pay residuals to the creators based on ratings which are verified by groups like Nielsen. The equivalent for streaming is views but because those numbers and how they’re calculated are for some reason stored in a vault so secure you’d need the guy from Mission Impossible to steal them they base payment on total subscribers instead. This could be easily renegotiated if anyone just said how popular their shit actually is, but I’m starting to suspect they don’t because there’s enormous fraud involved on every single level

A low budget, fluffy, feel good series wouldn't be a bad call. It would be the perfect thing to prey on nostalgia while also having social media bait laced in.
Of course in all likelihood, it was an IP slapped on a script of some nepotism hire, who had seriously pissed off a superior to the point of having such a horrible fit assigned to it.

I just don't think there's that much nostalgia for Willow in the first place, it's an old movie with a smallish cult following that's generally considered mediocre by everyone else. Even if the series was good it might not have gained much traction.

They only have enough sway to make -one- show or series semi popular like a bunch of 20-30+ year old full grown men watching owl house because it's portrays underaged lesbians

Because for every show / movie they keep on their platforms they need to pay royalties to all of the cast & crew. If nobody is watching the show then it's pointless to keep paying.

Serves them right for baiting and switching their audience with their shitty shows, making straight white men stupid, putting homosexuals in everything, attacking anyone who dares criticize the shit they crap out, and not giving audiences what they actually want to see!

Frick Disney, and double frick the idiot stans on Twitter, TikTok, and other social media who defend this shit and refuse to call it out!

I've never seen it. But I'm talking about the first couple seasons of Mandalorian, Season 7 of Clone Wars, very few of their Touchstone Pictures movies have gotten a 4K restoration, very few of their Searchlight movies...

piracy is the most based thing for the internet; sure it can frick over revenue, but most of these companies are so evil and moronic that they don't even preserve the creations they desperately want to milk to death, for most tv shows and films, the only way to keep them forever and to ensure they aren't removed/edited is to pirate the original releases

    >In its content purge last week, the media company pulled off more than 50 titles from Disney+ and Hulu, including series “Willow,” “The Mysterious Benedict Society” and “Dollface,” and movies such as “The One and Only Ivan.”
    >On Disney’s earnings call, CEO Bob Iger said he was “confident that we’re on the right path for streaming’s long-term profitability” and that as part of that the company would be “rationalizing the volume of the content we make and what we’re spending.” He also said the company expects to raise the price of Disney+ without ads later this year “to better reflect the value of our content offerings.”
So they are removing a bunch of content from their streaming services and then trying to write off $1.5 billion in value and then they are going to charge people who use their streaming platform more for less content?

    >if Disney+ deletes them, they're gone forever
    >this is the basis for claiming the tax write-off (as the intellectual property has no value of it can't be accessed)
    >but copyright remains and Disney can sue anyone who pirates the deleted-for-tax-writeoff content

They just write it off on their taxes. This is how corporations essentially pay zero.

It doesn't, they're going to pay less taxes because they're crashing and burning and you need to make money to pay taxes. This is just financial cope to make it look like it was all part of their keikaku

People start to remember we had torrents, free streams, and sites with free eps and stuff for dozens, and dozens of years.

My dad told me he pays like 150$ a month in tv.
    I pay 0$.
And i watch all the shows, and tv i want all day everyday.

Pluto tv=movies, peawiener free, youtube live/free movies,
Honestly there's so many, i forget how many have both free and paid? hulu.

Or just go to google and type
*FREE tv movie stream sites FREE*
and look at some links, see what works.
As long as you use multi adblock, popup block and stuff.

Youtube changed it's adblock a while ago, i checked all my adblock, only like 1 out of like 5 of my adblock was affected by change.
    Only idiots use just one.

I don't get how they're so out of touch with the easiest audience to sell to.

The trailer for Elemental before SpiderVerse was just one scene of the fire girl in a skirt the camera zoomed up on getting onto a bus before she has a meet cute with the water dude. It felt more like a trailer for an adult romcom animation than a family flick.

What kid or parent would want to go see that?
