Great worldbuilding, great tone, fantastic action, a boring ass plot. If it had just been about immortan joe's emprire clashing with some other faction it would have been kino but instead we get point a, to point b, to point a, and also toxic masculinity is bad.
It's another in the annoying trend of movies that drags you in by expertly appealing to your base instincts while simultaneously shaming you for having them. A lot of famous action directors from the 80s have been doing this because they have pent up guilt about glorifying violence but the fact is people don't go to the movies to be educated, the go to be entertained.
Cameron's avatar is another example, the human tech is slick and cool and just as appealing as the nature shit but you're supposed to feel bad for liking it. If he had made it the RDA and Navi team up against some other Navi tribes or against some other invading alien force or whatever it could have been a huge franchise to rival star wars.

Solid action movie, probably a bit overhyped though. I don't get people that say it's the best mad mad movie. The hype probably stemmed from a draught of solid action movies at the time so if it released today it'd probably be praised as the second coming of christ

          >"little warlord junior, it's gonna be so ugly..."
          >"what if it's a girl?"
it's so unsubtle and moronic because it's a male feminist who can't divorce his boomer chauvinism from modern progressivism. these supermodel concubines are le oppressed even though they get to read, live in complete ease and comfort, and all they had to do to earn it was nothing, just exist and be fricked. why doesn't furiosa save the other blood bags? why does xhe choose to save the concubines instead? because it's feminist bullshit. irl those women would not want to leave and there would be hundreds of women wanting to be taken up to the Citadel for the easy life.

which one of them explicitly points out before trying to run back to daddy Joe. the entire movies is them being confronted with a reality contradicting what they learned from their butthurt old childless nanny

            >why doesn't furiosa save the other blood bags? why does xhe choose to save the concubines instead?
she doesn't save Max, he beats her ass and commandeers the tanker only reluctantly teaming up because she has the starter rigged with a coded shutdown. Furiosa isn't really concerned with "saving" the wives, she has sympathy for them but she is just trying to make Joe seethe

              >the entire movies is them being confronted with a reality contradicting what they learned from their butthurt old childless nanny
yet that interpretation is completely squandered in the end when they go back to the Citadel to drain the aquifer and usher in a new society that lacks all hierarchy (ugly goblin Black person is lifted up by the gondola to the Citadel). this is all presented as great when we are seeing the first few seconds of a total collapse of this society, literally Green Place 2.0 "the water went sour" lol
              >she has sympathy for them but she is just trying to make Joe seethe
it's never established that they have any beef. she helps the womyn and not the blood bags because it's a movie made by a male feminist boomer.

                >it's never established that they have any beef
the (canon) comic book implies that Furiosa was intended as a breeder but was incapable and then proved herself worthy of being an imperator. this dynamic is what the Furiosa will explore, obviously

The problem is that it's not a 4th instalment, nor is it a proper reboot. It's some sort of fever dream rehash of Mad Max 2, really didn't like it back in 2015 but it's grown on me.

"You're right, that won't work, people didn't like the sitting-around parts anyway."
            >"We could just make the whole movie the main characters running away."
            "Wouldn't that get old, fast?
            >"I guess you're right..."

            "..."

            >"WAIT A SECOND! I've got it!"

            >"Half way through the movie...."
            "Yeah?"

I didn't feel deprived of Max but I wish they had focused more of Max's psychosis and immediate history than Furiosa's quest to return home, especially since that's exactly what we're getting a new chapter on next week

There is absolutely no mention of any mental instability on Max's part in the OG films. The whole point was that Max was one of the few sane men in a mad world. Hardy's grunting, quirky, almost feral performance simply isn't the same character.

true, strange they decided to literally interpret 'Mad Max' for the new film. also thought it was weird the child haunting him is a girl but I guess its not meant to be connected to his murdered family from the first film

a new fanfilm came out that explores those characters, it's really good, feels very classic.

can't beat Gibson that's for sure. I'd like to see him in another installment as an old guy. like other anons have pointed out, Max finding himself in the middle of other people's trials and tribulations and reluctantly lending them his warrior skills to defeat brutes and retain some little humanity is an established theme of the series

    >I found it really dull and tedious.
I think it's because it has such a thin story. If you contrast it to Road Warrior, Road Warrior spends a LOT more time establishing the characters, the stakes, etc. Even an action movie needs more than just action, and Fury Road dips below an acceptable threshold for high iq people.
