We've already seen its full of the usual torrential word vomit IDW's been being called out on as of late, it doesn't leave me feeling particularly optimistic about it being good.
The fact they’re already calling out that Duo is Mimic within ONE issue is fucking stupid. We hardly even have time to see him do anything before this bullshit starts. Writers just hate mimic in general because he bothers their precious lesbian uwu ship and characters.
That’s IDW’s pacing for you. Surge and Kitt betray Starline within like two issues. Whisper has a bitchfit over Tangle saying her trigger word for one issue only to immediately forgive her because lesbians always need to be heckin wholesome at all times or else twitter gets pissy.
Honestly we shouldn't have even gotten the scenes with him and Clutch two or three issues ago. The reveal that Duo is Mimic should have come when he abandoned Silver in the water.
Feel like it would have maybe been better if it was shown after Duo appeared and had some more time to get the cast to like him, just change it from their initial meeting to a different one

IDW Sonic reminds me of when Penders was writing Sonic. He was writing every issue with the expectation that the book would be shitcanned at any moment so that’s the reason all his actual villains were quickly dealt with and the status quo was kept by characters acting very irrational. IDW feels like that.
I never got this dichotomy with furfags. They easily become obsessed with characters to a comical degree, but that obsession never translates to something useful like doing research to improve them. It's not like sniper theory is even complicated. It's actually pretty straightforward and simple. The hard part is doing that stuff in the field.
It'd be cool to see her dad and/or grandpa being overly protective gun nuts or just hardened veterans. When she acts out, her grandpa gives her a good corrective stare down.
Just imagining Whisper's would-be dad raging just as hard as she is when they're having a disagreement over the most trivial shit. (Her dad having Christopher Sabat's voice of course.)
You know if Whisper just fucking shot him from a safe distance like a sniper, her main fucking talent by the way, none of this would be happening. Dude would immediately turn into his normal form and sheep lady would look like an idiot.
Lanolin is just the shitty parts of Sally nobody likes, the control freak part of Sally. At least it made sense why people obeyed Sally, she’s royalty and was childhood friends with the main cast. Lanolin is just some literal background character that was rushed into the spotlight and starts bossing everyone around. The character has 0 appeal to anyone who isn’t a coomer. Hell even coomers ignore her Karen personality and change her to be more docile and submissive.
In the games he never wants to kill Eggman, only in the evil route of his own spinoff was that ever a thing. Then IDW came along and started pretending he hates Eggman when every time they meet in the games they work together
More often than not when something like this happens in other stories, it’s always the character who is paranoid about shit doing the accusing, which results in other characters not believing them due to the paranoid one pulling this kind of stuff before.
It doesn’t work here because Whisper and Silver have no reason to lie or be paranoid about this sort of thing so Lanolin is just coming off as stupidly ignorant for someone who’s supposed to be intelligent.
Nah, Lanolin is supposed to look bad to the reader while underlining that Sonic characters do irrational shit because they're "good guys." That's what they're going for. You are supposed to be frustrated at her but not able to fault her.
The problem is it's very easy to fault her because they built this up wrong. She's the newbie with no credibility and that isn't factoring in to the interaction for some reason. She's being written in a way that doesn't really match her given character traits and the point of this subplot (jumping to disbelieving her partners instead of "Okay, maybe, but you're doing it WRONG and here's why"). Escalating straight to violence just makes the reader MORE frustrated at the events taking place instead of the characters.
Imagine this same scene, but Lanolin isn't hyping up the fact that she knows and instead confronts them more bluntly. They start to explain and you get >"Yeah, I don't care. That's not how you do this."
Instead of Whisper trying to push Lanolin aside, Lanolin sees her adjusting her rifle and smacks her and starts calling for members nearby to assist in restraining Whisper as she's gone AWOL. Now you're mad at Lanolin but she makes sense while being fucking annoying.

She is "high-ranking" in Restoration, enough that they've let her form her own unit.

The "brown" in Whisper's design is interpreted as skin due to the impact left on the art style by Rouge, even if that isn't the case with Whisper in particular. The specific color break being at her waist in particular unfortunately enforces the idea Whisper just has a hairy lower body and a bare upper one.

The actual plot of the last arc didn't really matter, it was just a paper-thin excuse to get Tangle Whisper and Lanolin alone together to lay down the foundation for the new Diamond Cutters.
I wish they'd gone with that bottom right design that's basically the final design with flames.
The whole "nobody loves me because of my powers" thing would have worked better if she was literally on fire 24/7.

Is this still how these stories are playing out? I pissed off after the Neo Metal Sonic arc because it felt like they wasted my time doing all this build up only to have the final conflict end in like 2 pages.
I took a peek during Metal Virus but dipped once we had 4 issues in a row doing the same dumb story of another one of Sonic's friends doing the one thing they were told not to do as he conveniently leaves the area.
Scrapnik Island has been the only story I enjoyed so far and that was a spin off
maybe I'm just reaching but "Silver trying to secretly expose a villain in the ranks" feels too similar to his Archie story line about trying to find the traitor in the freedom fighters but without any of the setup, drama, humour or stakes

Silver needs to do different things to change that image. Archie Silver is the most respected version of him because he was allowed to have big wins like beating Enerjak and he butted heads with people which showed he wasn't completely passive. Game Silver has only lost a couple of fights and gotten/given emotional support in the past decade.
Like a lot of characters Silver needs to do something on his own and actually get a win or at the very least prove the more aggressive and competent side of his personality again.
Regardless of what inspired Jones to make the song, there's nothing in Dreams of an Absolution that explicitely identifies it as a song about homosexual male love.

IDW Sonic reminds me of when Penders was writing Sonic. He was writing every issue with the expectation that the book would be shitcanned at any moment so that’s the reason all his actual villains were quickly dealt with and the status quo was kept by characters acting very irrational. More often than not when something like this happens in other stories, it’s always the character who is paranoid about shit doing the accusing, which results in other characters not believing them due to the paranoid one pulling this kind of stuff before.
It doesn’t work here because Whisper and Silver have no reason to lie or be paranoid about this sort of thing so Lanolin is just coming off as stupidly ignorant for someone who’s supposed to be intelligent.
Nah, Lanolin is supposed to look bad to the reader while underlining that Sonic characters do irrational shit because they're "good guys." That's what they're going for. You are supposed to be frustrated at her but not able to fault her.
The problem is it's very easy to fault her because they built this up wrong. She's the newbie with no credibility and that isn't factoring in to the interaction for some reason. She's being written in a way that doesn't really match her given character traits and the point of this subplot (jumping to disbelieving her partners instead of "Okay, maybe, but you're doing it WRONG and here's why"). Escalating straight to violence just makes the reader MORE frustrated at the events taking place instead of the characters.
Imagine this same scene, but Lanolin isn't hyping up the fact that she knows and instead confronts them more bluntly. They start to explain and you get

Silver needs to do different things to change that image. Archie Silver is the most respected version of him because he was allowed to have big wins like beating Enerjak and he butted heads with people which showed he wasn't completely passive. Game Silver has only lost a couple of fights and gotten/given emotional support in the past decade.
Like a lot of characters Silver needs to do something on his own and actually get a win or at the very least prove the more aggressive and competent side of his personality again.
In retrospect, making Silver a female would have helped the character stand out more against both Sonic and Shadow.

You know everyone compares Vennie to Gold and Whisper but the GOTF and Silver Age also both had blue tech geniuses on Silver's Team. I wonder if Evan will give Silver one of those in IDW too.
Sega might own the rights to the sisters now if they're blatantly appearing unaltered like this but GOTF was always a fan comic anyway so it wouldn't make a difference.

I don't get why, outside of 06 he hasn't done anything significant or useful at all.
