because the actor is fricking older? I thought you contrarian gays were opposed to corporations using CG to make actors look younger

They should've gone with his RotS hair, but Disney is moronic.

As far I know, all Padawan males - or at least the human ones - have the same standard haircut and braid

"It looks better than cgi deaged face", no it doesnt fricking consoomer redditor, this look ridiculous and is even more distracting than deepface luke.

    Who cares at this point?

I mean, going forward, it's just a given that nothing will make sense.

So they can de-age Hamill but making Hayden look 15 years younger is too much?

This might come to you as a surprise but films aren't actually real and actors age.

We're just looking for consistency. They went to a lot of trouble for Luke, but practically none for Anakin. I also found it odd that they made cgi Leia and Tarkin in Rogue One, used old footage of Red and Gold Leaders, but then recast General Dodonna with a dude that looks nothing like the original, and it's mere days apart storywise. Mon Mothma got a pass from me since it seemed reasonable that RO MM could still age into RoTJ MM in 4 years.

They didn't even bother de-aging him for that scene. It's so bad, even though the show is so terrible I actually looked forward to seeing Hayden again.

I think they ran out of budget. Or maybe it was COVID. You know, the usual excuse from studios in the past 2 years.

Are people actually unhappy with how he looks there? The dude was 40 when he was filming this. They didn't use de-aging techshit, but why do people care? Attack of the Clones was 20 years ago and he looks about as good as you can get without being forced not to wrinkle his forehead.
The uproar this has caused is so bizarre

At this point people are just looking for things to hate in Star Wars shows. Remember how they de-aged Luke, and there was an uproar about how shit it looked. You just can't win.

exactly why I stopped giving a shit about Star Wars, it’s impossible to divorce it from the fandom because Disney keeps responding to them then wonders why they’re perpetually disappointed with everything

Better make-up and CGI would easily work wonders here.

Maybe so. But makeup can also make things look really tacky. Simply put he doesn't look half as bad as people claim he does.

His age is really only super noticeable when he first turns around, and then at the end when Obi-Wan beats him.

God damn it just stop consooming this utter dogshit already, what the frick is wrong with you? Move on from star wars and stop with the disney shilling for frick's sake.

Negrito this is the first piece of Star Wars media I've watched since I pirated The Last Jedi. I don't care for all this spinoff nonsense, this one only caught my eye because of Ewan McGregor. Pointing out that someone isn't as old as the reddit narrative proclaims doesn't make me a Disney shill, no matter how hard you try to push that.

So maybe don't film the scene if it obviously doesn't make sense for him to be older?

  12. 2 years ago

yeah he looks old but it didn't bother me nearly as much as Luke's soulless rubber face in Mando season 2 finale, yes I know that they now have competent people making the deepfakes, compared to everything else this show has fricked up Anakin lookin old is the most insignificant thing

For me, it's Mark Hamill's computer edited floating head on top of an actor that isn't even him, along with a voice that isn't his either but in fact a synthesized robot. Yes indeed.

My god that was so wild how they did that. Why didn't they just keep the continuity from Mando S2 finale?

Shitty deaging work aside, Hayden Christensen looks good for a 41 year old. Hairline still intact, face isn't too wrinkly. Even though Hollywood has mostly forgotten about him, at least he's saying healthy, unlike other hasbeens/one hit wonders like Edward Furlong.

      >shitty deaging work
I don't think they did one single frame of deaging.

Furlong is a case on his own. He ruined himself with drugs and gambling and junk food. Simply lacked self control

This reminds me of how convincing the fake Sarah and John and Terminator were in the beginning of T6 when I first saw it. I wonder how it holds up now compared to BoBF Luke?

Jesus, they really need to tone down the lightsaber glow. It shouldn't be this strong in broad daylight.
Set it to Screen of Overlay for fricks sake, I don't know, I'm not a highly paid vfx artist at ILM.

Here's my theory. They planned to deepfake 20-years ago Hayden over current Hayden, so they didn't do the prep-work on set that cgi de-aging might require (dots on face and shoulders). Then they attempted deepfake, and it gets super wonky whenever lightsaber passes in front of his face, which happens a lot. Deepfake porn always looks fake when a dick enters a mouth. So... they just said "well shit" and just hoped the makeup they applied would be sufficient. They could have at least altered the close ups when no lightsabers are lit yet.

I understand why it's distracting but it's not that big a deal imo. Actors age, it happens. I'd rather we get this than some soulless cgi.

I can see the age difference, but it didn't bother me. He looks good. I also thought CGI Luke was good. It's the screwy plot holes that bother me. And physically unfit people acting like they are tough (3rd sister, boba fett).

Star Wars is already 90% CGI. Why not go the whole way to preserve continuity? Don't get me wrong, Hayden has aged well but I was taken out of it a bit because of his age.

One frame is easy, when you have to keep it for an entire sequence, that's when it gets hard. If they needed like 5 seconds of screen time of him, they would de-age him, otherwise it's a waste.
