Lord Of The Rings: Rings Of Power Is Not TV But A "New Form" Of Entertainment, Director Says

ITS LITERALLY A NEW FORM of Cinemaphile! HYPE!

>Amazon's The Lord of the Rings TV show, The Rings of Power, reportedly carries one of the biggest budgets in the history of any TV production. Now, some of the key creatives working on the project have spoken about the budget and how they believe it's actually a bargain for what's being produced. Not only that, but one of its directors believes The Rings of Power isn't even a TV show, but it's instead something new for the entertainment world.

>Showrunner JD Payne told Empire that people should "keep the budget in context," adding that The Rings of Power Season 1 is actually more akin to an eight-hour movie.

>"This is the length of three Marvel films, done on the schedule of two, for the budget of one. Look at it in the context of what's actually being produced and you could say that it's a bargain," Payne said.

>Amazon is said to have spent $250 million on the rights alone, along with $465 million to produce Season 1. Amazon's Jennifer Salke said the massive fee makes for a good headline for people to latch onto, but she reminded people that this money is being spent to "sustain the whole series."

>Director J.A. Bayona is quoted in the piece, too, saying The Rings of Power should not even be thought of as a TV show because it's breaking new ground in the entertainment space. "The Rings of Power is not television. It's a new form we're creating here," Bayona said.

How hyped are you?

There were either three or four confirmed ones, but Tolkien never fully established how exactly a half-elf works, since at least one of them didn't have the "choose which race you belong to" gift from Eru, and was simply a very long lived human. I see no reason there wouldn't be a few more throughout the millenia, especially if that leak is true and he is from a region that:
          A. Had Elves.
          B. Tolkien wrote next to nothing about.

That's mainly due to the angle of the shot and the fact the other elves are more in the foreground

The elf crowning her is still a head taller than she is and she's barely lowering her head at all. She's simply too short for the role.

                Anonymous

That's got nothing to do with the height of the actors, it's how they have decided to present the characters and Gil-galad will be particularly tall
See here she is shown as the same height as Elrond, whose actor is 6foot

The issue is more to do with you thinking Gil-galad is too tall

There aren't people who have the size AND proportions of dwarves and hobbits. You have to alter their size to get the desired look and mobility. You can find many an actress of average height and the desired build to play an elf.

no she won't, white women are box office poison as action leads, no one buys it. and this one looks weird, plus galandriel doesn't have the appeal that dany had for the female demographic. she doesn't frick tons of hot men, she doesn't girl boss, she doesn't get worshipped by unwashed masses of browns. at most this version will just be an action girl. the female demographic don't care about action girls.

            >Now the Quendi had possessed weapons in Middle-earth, but not of their own devising. They had been made by Aule and sent as gifts by the hand of Orome, when it became known to the Valar that the Quendi were beset by prowling evils that had discovered the places of their dwelling beside Cuivienen; and more were sent later for the defence of the Eldar upon the Great March to the shores of the Sea. But all these were long unused, and lay in hoard as memorials of old days half-forgotten; and since the chaining of Melkor the armouries of the Valar also had been shut.
Aule had given them weapons on their journey to the coast. While what you say is true about Morgoth, it might not be necessarily true that the first sword was forged under him. But regardless, swords did not have an inhernetly evil connotation for Elves or Men. Which is why there are so many famous swords in Tolkien's world, the most obvious being Narsil and Glamdring

Is it actually explicitly said that Aule hadn't forged swords for them? And the weapons were forged to help them on their journey to the coast, which had danger along the way

    >ITS LITERALLY A NEW FORM of Cinemaphile! HYPE!
's The Lord of the Rings TV show, The Rings of Power, reportedly carries one of the biggest budgets in the history of any TV production. Now, some of the key creatives working on the project have spoken about the budget and how they believe it's actually a bargain for what's being produced. Not only that, but one of its directors believes The Rings of Power isn't even a TV show, but it's instead something new for the entertainment world.
Uh huh, something new using something old's name?
JD Payne told Empire that people should "keep the budget in context," adding that The Rings of Power Season 1 is actually more akin to an eight-hour movie.
So like I should expect a lot?
    Huge budget, huge expectations?
    >>"This is the length of three Marvel films, done on the schedule of two, for the budget of one. Look at it in the context of what's actually being produced and you could say that it's a bargain," Payne said.
God what a terrible pitch. "Lower your expectations" It's like they're already apologizing and trying to frame our pity.
is said to have spent $250 million on the rights alone, along with $465 million to produce Season 1. Amazon's Jennifer Salke said the massive fee makes for a good headline for people to latch onto, but she reminded people that this money is being spent to "sustain the whole series."
Sustain the rights, not the quality. Almost a billion dollars spent and they're already telling us it'll look a third as good as a Marvel movie.
J.A. Bayona is quoted in the piece, too, saying The Rings of Power should not even be thought of as a TV show because it's breaking new ground in the entertainment space. "The Rings of Power is not television. It's a new form we're creating here," Bayona said.
Yeah, "it's not tv" as a slogan is taken Amazon.

There are alot of rumours of them releasing the first two episodes in cinemas (worldwide) as a standalone movie, but that in itself wouldn't be anything revolutionary

wait they'd still put that on prime video though right?

          Anonymous

Yeah, they might do a cinema release a week early I guess? Get people talking about it
It's not a done deal but since Amazon bought MGM they have the capacity to get media into cinemas easily and it's definitely something they are seriously looking into.
Also JA Bayona released some frames which were in 2.39:1 aspect ratio, meaning they filmed it for cinema screen format

I won't watch it because I don't like Lord of the Rings and because Amazon only produced two good things since ever (ZeroZeroZero and Lost City of Z), but I really want to see the shitshow surrounding everything with it. I think Cinemaphile will be mess during the first episodes.
My brother will probably go crazy over this shit because he likes the books and he got a Prime account.

Marvel movies look fricking horrible and mostly have 2003 Indian-tier CGI; why is that considered a selling point?

Do we know how many actual blacks and indians are in the movie? maybe they just put the blackies in the trailers and posters to virture signal.

She's actually going to be doing some of that in the show, lel
I think the producers want to play to her strengths, remember there is no Celeborn atm and they want to show a 'PTSD Galadiriel'

    >showrunners said they are depicting a 'PTSD Galadriel'
    >also said the main theme of the show is "the fear of death and the desire to live forever"
    this is pure kino potential

Yet they cripple that theme by compressing 1000 years to one lifetime, diluting the impact of men just growing old and elves staying forever.

        Anonymous

well maybe but having something just depicting the elves fear of fading could be kino enough. In fact that can lead into why they want magic rings in the first place (which do actually restrict the passage of time) because elves age too, just very slowly

          Anonymous

No, elves don't age past adulthood. They are specifically described as "ageless". Yes, I know Cirdan technically has signs of aging, but Tolkien had the unfortunate flaw of inserting exceptions into his own established rules.
What they do is "diminish" or "fade away" - without a powerful source of magic, they very slowly turn into something similar to wraiths, though obviously not evil or insane. That's why, once the Third Age ends, most of them will sooner or later have to travel to Valinor...

Except there are also tribes like the fricking star elves, who never travelled to Valinor in the first place. As I said - Tolkien loved his exceptions to the rules.

            >No, elves don't age past adulthood. They are specifically described as "ageless"
I'm not talking about aging in a physically sense, dumbass. For elves, their body ages and start to disconnect from their spirit once they get really old.
Tolkien is very explicate about this

Elves wanting to prevent future decay and fading is very relevant to the 2nd age events

              Moron.
              >"Unlike Men, however, they are immortal, in that their bodies do not age once they have reached maturity, so that they do not seem to become elderly or die of old age."

                Anonymous

You clearly don't understand what you are talking about. The idea of elvish spirits and bodies disconnecting is fundamental to middle earth.
Elves do age and '''die'' in a physically sense, but its not something a human can comprehend

                Anonymous

Give me a quote on that, or shut up. Mine was from "The History of Middle-earth".

These homies literally go and chill in the gloom of Mandos for an unspecified amount of time before jumping into new bodies.

Read The Nature of Middle Earth
The fading of the elves is a very well known concept, Tolkien explicitly said that at the end of the 3rd age Galadriel was so old she was on the verge of her body physically starting to fade away.
Tolkien wrote about this multiple times!

By the way, Amazon has used the current political climate to play both sides brilliantly.
    >Immediately announce the diversity hires, knowing full well the media/leftists will start slavering all over you, whilst at the same time the opposite aisle will flood their boards with vitriol - and free marketing.
    >Then, after some time, start slowly seeping out information that the diversity characters are not, in fact, breaking the lore, and actually point to the writers paying attention.
    >Now you have the entire Internet abuzz about your product, at the same time slowly purging the ill will you initially generated.
