Is this movie gay or just European?

Like seriously I've heard conflicting reports on this

It's about dealing with anxiety according to the director

Why, anon, they are one the same.

It's not a gay movie though, that's just what mentally ill people conclude when they see two characters of the same sex be friendly with eachother. It does have lots of allegories to "identity" but that encompasses all aspects of that, not just calfifornian politics.
It's a nice film, has good texturework, long-shots, lighting, simple story, none of the pixar "fantasy bureacracy" hackery. Italian setting is also very kino, it has a great soundtrack as a result of that.

Not gay, it's just that everyone in the media wishes it was. It's just a friendship movie.

      European.

Little bit Gay, but mostly European.

Alberto is big jealous gay for Luca but Luca himself is not and only interested in surface world stuff.

I get your refrence, it's European friendship movie. It's kinda about not letting friendship lock you into a contract and prevent you from taking the future you want to have, while also maintaining the friendships with that person and them growing to accept that just because the plan changed, didn't mean your friendship has to.

I can safely say it is the most boring, by the numbers, simple as hell Pixar movie. Which says alot since Cars is a thing. The art direction is terrible, the characters are one note, and the fricking ending was easy to see a mile away. Luca isn't bad, it's something way worse, it's mediocre. At least a bad movie like Turning Red makes you feel something, Luca just makes you feel like you wasted your time.

The movie that tried and failed to be like a Ghibli film? Yes I did.

Watched it alongside Encanto and Turning Red a few weeks ago, it was the best one of the three easily

But it left me wondering, I have this feeling that older Pixar/Disney movies were much more "complete". For example, if Luca was made by old Pixar we'd have a scene showing Alberto's backstory with his father as well as a scene showing Porto Rosso sea monster lore and how Giula's father lost his arms to one

      Anonymous

He didn't lose his arm to a sea monster, he was born without one.

        Anonymous

Really? I swear it was a implicit thing, I'm pretty sure he didn't say "sea monster ate me arm" but it was kinda hinted at

          Anonymous

He says a sea monster ate his arm then says he was joking and that he was born like that.

It's a cute movie but it makes me ravenous for pasta so I can't really watch it often.

Christ I hate these captchas let me go back to clicking on all the stop lights. How are ones with audio so uncommon??

Why the frick didn't Luca's parents help Giula's father with the fishing so Alberto could go to school too?

Pixar Plothole. Least he got a job as the town life guard though.... and hopefully gets paid for it

Alberto didn't want to go to school. He wanted a father figure.

I thought it was okay but despised the art style and designs but then again I'm a terratophile who thinks more scary monsters are infinitely better than the toothless faux-human merpeople designs of the film.
