Mad Max: The Wasteland

It would be another prequel, about how Max first came across the Citadel, met and failed to save that little girl whose ghost was haunting him, and killed Immortan Joe’s favorite son Scrotus to explain why the War Boys were chasing him at the start of Fury Road.

Because I guess he considers Fury Road the perfect ending for Max and doesn't want to go past it. No idea why. Feels like there's plenty other stories you could tell after that, and bring Mel back for a final one.

It had no Mel Gibson. Dude's too old.

He and Miller both sought his blessing and he gave it, happily.

He said he was too old for those sorts of movies. And that he's happy directing his own massively successful films.

Why are you offended on his behalf when he's happy as a clam?

In Road Warrior, Max's entire purpose is as nothing more than a distraction. They give him a truck full of sand and send him off. They don't even tell him. He's literally a dupe. A decoy.

He is objectively more crucial in Fury Road. If it weren't for him, Furiosa would have taken a bunch of women who can't care for themselves - several of whom are elderly - to die a slow horrible death of dehydration and heatstroke on the endless salt flats.

Neither of which were official canon and made without his consent essentially. WB took his script drafts and concept art to make those without any of his input and permission.

But functionally, you're right. We've already seen those ideas play out so there's not much point remaking that storyline. He should let it go and do something new.

Yeah, it's this game. Not even joking. The story of Wasteland is literally this.
It bored me to shit so I never completed it, but Rictus or Scrotus or some other homosexual son of Immortan Joe is the main antagonist and he gets a bunch of women and children killed that Max took a liking to.
The devs got access to Millers pre-prod work and notes and they used that story as the framework.

Apparently Miller and co took years working stories and backstories for the setting that we first saw in Fury Road and they had a bunch of stories lined up around that place. Personally, I don't think that region is that interesting at all and I was content that FR was all it featured. I don't care about The Wasteland, Furiosa or whatever else yawn inducing backstory they have for Immortan and all those characters. FR worked because it was so efficient and it didn't rely on boring lore tripe, just glanced over it, provided some context and trusted that you connect some dots.
