It's world-building. That there are some that do not and some that do pleases everybody AND, you get to write an explanation for both.

Worldbuilding in Star Wars is a lost cause, all you're ever gonna do is run into the same character types, settings and tropes because the source material is, by design, very limited in scope. I'll admit that the Mandalorians are kind of an exception but that is because the writers decided that the race of Boba Fetts would be like space knights, which just so happens to fit in really well with the Arthurian themes of the Jedi and the Force. But that is the exception that proves the rule.

You say that and yet the EU was a lot less formulaic than Disneyshit.

For God's sake, any setting that can canonically contain a series of made for tv fantasy movies starring Ewoks, WW2 pilot tales about a balkanizing Empire and Nietzschean explorations of what its metaphysics mean for free will at least must have some breadth.

          >at least must have some breadth.
Unless perhaps the original appeal of the setting was that the "breadth" was implied but never explicitly defined. But whatever, that is a discussion for another time.

People often bring this up. Of course it was the criticism made of the midichlorians. They make a big deal of the allure of mystery.

I don't buy it. I think you can make detailed mythology if you actually put in the work to flesh it out and not wing it.
Mystery is a powerful tool to hide bad writing (JJ's career is a great example of this) but it's not great.
Great is that which actually stands on its own as good art.

We're afraid of getting more content for SW not because we're afraid of things being explained and losing their luster. But because we know the people that own the license can't make art for shit.

Solo is a clear example of this. We cope by noticing that it's cringe they have to explain every item he ever owned down to the fricking dice. But that's not the problem. The books that were written about young Han were a lot better and nobody complained because they actually made the effort to write Han as a character instead of merely a brand.

A lot of the truly out there EU was built off a foundation that never intersected with the OT, because they grasped that fricking with the main formula and potentially tainting it was a bad idea. While the EU never sunk to the depths disney has, there were plenty of bad stories and/or dumb premises, but keeping them in quarantine meant that the damage they could cause was limited.
Disney doesn't have this, because they're shackled to the OT/PT due to dropping a dirty bomb on the ST and making the truly staggering decision to spearhead the high republic with literal who YA authors

Having Din take off his helmet was a mistake. Should have been a 1 time thing when he said goodbye to Yeed. (Let me see you with my own eyes)

Matter of fact, not making Din Manadalore was a mistake. Show was hinting that Mandalorians fell because just like the jedi, they lost their way and need to return to tradition/the creed. It was even hinted with Bo-Katan adhering to the way (not removing her helmet) that Mandalorians need to return to tradition since they've strayed from the way. The fricking mystical weapon (Dark Saber) that bestows the claim even rejected Bo Katan. But nope, the Armorer tells Bo, that it's ok to take off her helmet immediately after she pledges the oath to follow the way and not take it off. And then she tells her that she needs to be the one to reunite Mandalorians. Dark Saber was then destroyedand Bo Katan was installed as Mandalore regardless felt so malicious. Like the writers giving the middle finger to the tradition and the creed just to install their girl boss despite it going against all the aforementioned themes they just established

Anon, it's been confirmed via several insiders the show was supposed to have 2 seasons about Grogu, and then move onto Din becoming Mandalore.

But then Baby Yeed became the only merchandise that was selling, so they had to bring him back, and artificially restart the arc between the two.

        >cont.

As much as people shit on Filoni for not letting go of characters, in this one instance he WANTED to end the storyline, but wasn't allowed to.
It's also why Favreau basically quit on Star Wars.

That's how they bribed him back in.

There's also the fact that the
            >are they going to retcon the ST
rumours were at their peak after S2, which made LF shit themselves and rush to separate yeed from luke.

This, in combination with Ahsoka being connected with the "World Between Worlds" made people think Filoni will actually pull it off, and retcon the Sequels. Of course, they were all morons in the end.

It's a fine idea on its own, the enigmatic group with the weird armor is pretty baked into fantasy. It's just a weird level of worldbuilding compared to the absolute lack of it that Disney insists on otherwise. Everything is this perfectly homogenized cosmopolitan where all these different species and cultures come together to all just act like the same kind of people. And then you have Mandelorians, freaky fricking warrior people that never take off their helmets and have all this tribal bullshit and secrecy and blahblahblah. It doesn't fit.

i thought it was a nice save when they revealed it was religious extremism which led to a nice character moment where he had to sacrifice his ideals to save yeed. however, i heard the extremism is celebrated now because of stupid fans thinking it was cool and bo katan converted to the cult or something (i didn't watch s3)
