If they wanted mexicans to watch it, they should have put Goku on the cover
they only put the blame on whatever is convenient so their shareholders don't freak out
With capeshit well and truly dead, where do the studios turn for new movie ideas?
Sequels? Of what? Capeshit? It doesn’t work anymore.
We’ve gotten used to billion dollar box office returns.
Maybe if they weren't laundering SO much $ and pigging out at the ESG trough and making shitty theme park ride films and injecting The Message© into everything and trying to cater to every single potential audience in every goddamn piece of product they produce, MAYBE the movie industry can fix itself. But doubtful.
>where do the studios turn for new movie ideas?
games. the sonic games were well received, mario was huge, uncharted some how made money, last of us was popular. netflix has a gears of war movie planned, Amazon has the rights to god of war, five nights at freddy's is coming out soon, ghost of tsushima is being made by the john wick director, metal gear solid has been in development for years.
with games becoming more "cinematic" it's easier to adapt them
>the sonic games were well received
It was Alvin and the Chipmunks but for video games
Historical epics make a comeback (with wildly incorrect racial casting)
*monkey’s paw curls*
>where do the studios turn for new movie ideas?
More spy slop and action movies like Indepence Day
Hopefully just a good movie
Aquaman was a hit but that may have been a one time thing. Everything besides Batman is poison. Superman and flash are dead
People don't wanna see pinkoids, blackoids or brownoids in media. Look how popular mangas and anime are. People want to see Asians.
tell that to Shang-Chi
Of course it flopped. It was westoid garbage adapted from capeshit. Asian made media is the only worthwhile media right now.
No one wants 80s level production and 60s level writing
Shang-Chi did well for a pandemic movie
>*10Rings flopping sounds*
disney is retroactively deciding it was a success and that shang chi is a super popular dude.
probably because their Kang completely blew up in their face
>Disney decides what is and isn’t a flop
Can’t leave success or failure in the hands of the unwashed public, how dare they not come out to watch our heckin shows??
disney seems to treat a movie as market research for it's sequel. people weren't keen on brie, but kamala was liked and there was nothing bad said about monica, so dump all three in a movie. same for black widow>thunderbolts, take what was liked and throw in some other shit.
shang-chi won't get a straight sequel, it'll be something from a different character, maybe the heavenly cities tournament for iron fist with shang in iron fist's place
Shang Chi should have been two movies. It already feels like it.
yeah, same shit with ragnarok, the alien planet and hela should have been different movies
Split how? the movie barely had any martial arts as is, with only 3 fight scenes, the one on the bus, the one on the side of the building and the big battle in ta-lo, would each of the two movies only have had one and a half fight scenes each?
shang-chi 1 should have been "i am a reluctant martial arts master, dragged back in to my father's criminal empire, but i swear i will stop him" shang-chi 2 should have been "although i have helped take down my father's criminal empire, he has found the key to finding the mythical village my mother is from. i must get there before him to stop him destroying it"
Very low stakes. Should have been another Disney plus slop show.
yeah, it made literally no profit, considering you need to add a marketing budget too, they lost money.
what exactly did you want to say with your pic?
Let's go to the lowest, and say it only cost $150 million. Usually you double that amount to include the marketing costs, so $300 million.
Movie theatres usually take 50~70% of the box office. Let's lowball it and say it was just 50%.
That means the studio only got $216 million against a $300 million budget, so a loss of at the very least $84 million.
Why don't they do like Disney and buy millions of tickets on their own?
Because every time you do that, you're actually losing 70% of the money, generously speaking. The only thing that accomplishes is giving a local theater a stimulus
You need to plan ahead for that.
You can’t start buying on week 2 or it looks weird and people will catch it.
One thing you can do is what Disney did for elemental where they waited the flop to leave the news, and quietly pumped money into it in South Korea where their flop suspiciously made almost a third of its domestic box office.

wow, it really had legs.
WB has been pants-on-head moronic for a long, long time. Here's the thing, Blue Beetle isn't a bad movie, WB just didn't earn a B character movie the way the MCU earned an Antman, or Guardians. WB has no fricking clue what their doing...and clearly never did. To me that's a bummer because I like DC and comics in general...but it's just reality now.
>WB just didn't earn a B character movie the way the MCU earned an Antman, or Guardians
Blade was done decades ago
This. They could have kept that series going.
I would have liked a prequel showing Blade just starting out his career as the Daywalker. Like a Batman Year One. Showing him meeting Whistler, learning to fight, etc.
The key is to have reasonable budgets for these movies.
Blade was a vampire movie when vampire shit was popular and before Wesley Snipes went to jail for not paying taxes. It's success had frick all to do with being a comic adaptation.
Right now, super hero shit is on its way out, and as much as I dug Xolo Mariduena in Cobra Kai, he's not a huge draw for an audience.
>It's success had frick all to do with being a comic adaptation.
how is that any different than any adaptation (book, comic, etc) ever?
>Right now, super hero shit is on its way out
okay? maybe DC should start pivoting and adapting some non-superhero comics for the big screen
Swamp Thing, Constantine, Jonah Hex, I....Vampire, etc etc.
>how is that any different than any adaptation (book, comic, etc) ever?
Lord of the Rings had almost 50 years of positive word of mouth, which helps sell tickets. The whole point of "Cinematic Universes" is that you get a built in audience who are going to buy tickets and merch even for something they otherwise wouldn't bother with. Or at least that WAS the case with the MCU up to End Game, ye olde big ass cinematic event. That shit isn't putting asses in seats anymore because they burned through any good will fans have had that this shit was going to be any good.
Blade wasn't part of any sort of cinematic universe, relying on synergy and whiffs of franchise continuity to get people to see it. It was a vampire property helmed by a big ass action star that happened to be based on a comic.
This, I don't think most people knew then or even now that Blade was a comic book movie.
Calling Batman a fascist was a huge mistake. I noticed Midnight's Edge quite carefully didn't mention that in their video.
It was an attempt at outrage marketing.
It worked, but not as intended.
WB is beyond moronic
>people only care about batman
>Let's have a huge 5 year gap between batman movies
>people liked joker? Let's make the second a musical
>in the mean time Let's make a bunch of shit C tier character movies that nobody cares about
It would work fine if they were much lower budget. They’re spending too much money on trash.
They could follow Marvel’s lead when they pumped out Ghost Rider and all those early movies.
Let Blumhouse, Liongate, and anybody else take these C and D-list characters and have fun with them.
Let them make The Question and a bunch of very low stakes movies.
>>Let's have a huge 5 year gap between batman movies
good to avoid oversaturation
>calling the key DC character that carried the entire fricking franchise on his back alone for over two decades a fascist
>making it a point to be about illegals excuse me "oppressed latinos" sponging off of our country that they feel like should be doing more to provide for them
>while also being a race-flip character that was originally white
>while also being capeshit, for which unless it's Spider-Man or Batman the movie-going audience is tired of
Go woke go broke
Well only giga nerds buy ongoing comics and even there I heard that bat books make most of the sales.
Every one of Gunn's DCU movies is going to flop
It will make its money back.
Stupid execs. I hope Aquaman bombs, too.
>fires their BIGGEST STAR
>to save a couple of million
>everybody completely stops giving a shit
Zaslav is a fricking moron
