Do you think people's memories got reset every so often so they didn't question why nothing advanced, or was it just that most of the people in the matrix were sheep

You could move most people to a literal slum and after some complaining they’d adjust perfectly to their situation

How do I know this? Look at how the people live around your country. Even in the suburbs there are lots of people who don’t maintain anything and are happy to sit in their own filth. It gets worse in the towns and worse still in the cities. These “people” would live in the same way in any era. They are completely replaceable and have no souls

It’s obvious who has a soul. It’s that twinkle in the eyes that people have. They are special and all have the power to move great numbers of people. They love nature instinctively and harmonise with it. They love beautiful things and hate to be around decay. They don’t like to make others suffer.

Most people are just cold behind the eyes, they’d eat you in a heartbeat given the chance and until then they’ll lie and make you suffer for their benefit. They can’t stand the natural world and have been working hard to destroy it all their lives

            >It’s that twinkle in the eyes that people have.
That "twinkle" is due too light hitting the lenses in our eyes. I was born with lens subluxation, which means my lenes slipped out of place and floated into the goo of my eye. This leads to terrible eyesight.
It also means my eyes do not twinkle, so do I have a soul???
It's ridiculous question if you where to meet me irl obviously, as i'm a ginger so this makes the whole discussion moot.

              >that twinkle is light
No it isn’t. I’ve seen people with bright blue eyes that were just hollow and they exacted in the exact fashion I described negatively above. I’ve seen people with the darkest brown eyes with the twinkle, it has nothing to do with light. You can see there is something there that is not present in others

Maybe you have to be spiritual to notice this, but I’ve always noticed my fellow soul havers. Many times I’ve felt a pull towards a person and found the twinkling there

The matrix resets every time the one reinserts the prime program. This happens every 100 years or so. That means the matrix initialises in the year 1900, since Neo's intended time to free it was 2000.

We've had this discussion. The machines aren't cruel and have no reason to go back on their deal or renege. Imagine if word gets out the machines are turning your brains into applesauce if you try to bargain with them. They have nothing to gain from it, and could bargain with more humans in the future if word got out.

I would. Even with the sweaty black people I’d rather see reality than a fake. That’s why they all chose the red pill. Eventually the effect that blackened the sky would disappear, and eventually the humans would win against the machines. The Spanish took 800 years to win their lands back. you say this but you're hiding in the comfort of your favorite familiar media website instead of being out there changing the world. the truth is that 99% of people would choose the comfort of the blue pill. you only need to look at real life to know this truth. if you think you would choose the redpill but you've spent your whole life choosing comfort as most Cinemaphileners have, you're just a delusional hypocrite.

the movie itself defends why someone would choose the blue pill. and why its a bad choice as well because a pick of either agents or sennitals will hunt you down.
the point was, that neo fought for the option to choose if you want to escape the matrix. by making an agreement with the architect, by ending the war.

"Why do you persist?!" "Because I choose to" its literally the best line from the films.

I think the movies are a interesting take if what if we had two compeiting intelligent species on our planet

            Anonymous

Neo didn't agree with the architect at all. He did the opposite of what he was suppose to do. The oracle was manipulating everyone involved to end the war. She had all the necessary meta data to see the future and knew what choices everyone would make. It's why she let Smith incorporate her. She knew that trinity, neo, and Smith would force an alliance with the humans and end the war.

The movies were about choice but no one ever really made their own choices. The oracle just manipulated everyone to her plan to end the war.

the oracle herself said she truly doesn't really know what will actually happen. she can only predict. She is the yin to the architect (yang). "Manipulate" is a strong word in this sense. She nudged them towards a better future for both Man and Machine. Since she and the architect arequite literally, Computer Gods. She knew, the path of least resistance would not be war but co-existence, she needed to prove that to both humanity and the Architect. I believe you are right, she did manipulate but for a reason.

The big baby face wasn’t the architect.

Neo didn't agree with the architect at all. He did the opposite of what he was suppose to do. The oracle was manipulating everyone involved to end the war. She had all the necessary meta data to see the future and knew what choices everyone would make. It's why she let Smith incorporate her. The movies were about choice but no one ever really made their own choices. The oracle just manipulated everyone to her plan to end the war.

Deus ex had to choose to trust a human. Neo had to choose Morpheus over himself. Trinity had to choose to help, multiple times. Morpheus was the only one on a flat trajectory. Cypher’s choices were also important, as were the choices of freeborn. Not to mention, they all had to choose, even at a subconscious level, to not accept the matrix.

The matrix plays with dualism, which is at odds with physical determinism.

              Anonymous

The oracle knew of all their choices and probably guided them to those choices including Cypher. She's a super intelligence that knows every variable. She played off of probability, as she admits there was a chance of failure to the architect at the end. She was in the perfect position of power as everyone went to her for advice and she would tell them exactly what they needed to hear to get the outcome she wanted. Like telling neo he wasn't the one.

Argue about determinism all you want but given enough data and processing power you can guess the future with high probability. Like a super computer playing chess. The movies even say it was the oracles plan to end the war at the end. We just don't know what the probability for failure was.

We already have algorithms that predict shipping habits and voting trends based on the meta data of social media. Now imagine a system where every variable is known. The environment, people genetics, whether or not they'll accept the matrix.

                Anonymous

To add, for all we know the oracle cutoffs have been planning since the first or second version of the matrix. The magic
Matrix world reached the singularity so there's no knowing how much processing power the machines had. There's no telling what a super intelligence is capable of. Especially one designed to think like a human like the oracle was.

There's nothing pleasant about the real world. They made a pleasant matrix and literally everyone rejected it.

It doesn't matter if it's not real.
Money isn't real either, but you waste most of your life over it. People kill over it. People die because of it.

Value is not a human perception. Every animal had a value system. For food, for shelter, warmth, sex.
Money is a physical manifestation of value. Just as food is valuable, it allows you to get what you need. Even apes know how to barter with food.

It's an abstract representation of value, not a physical manifestation of value. Even when precious metals are used as money, it's value as money isn't dependent on it's value as a material good. Golds value as money is still an abstraction.

No, the things you just listed are a physical manifestation of value, and they also exist in human relationships. Money in a simplified abstract representation of value, and it’s always fluctuation in its worth, just like any other value.

I get what you're saying, but Morpheus himself says in the first Matrix film that if you define 'real' by what you can see, hear, smell, taste and touch, then 'real' is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain. So how are the electrical signals interpreted by your brain in the Matrix any different from the electrical signals interpreted by your brain in the so-called 'real world'?

        Anonymous

because with dualism, quantum physics, the electrical signals can come from outside newtonian reality, which is the only level of reality the machines can comprehend.

People are always living in a dreamlike state of reinforced delusions.
There is nothing more real than coming to understanding of how flawed and pointless life of a human is. On a grand scale of things your actions mean nothing, your deeds won't be remembered even your DNA will run thin, disappear without a trace.
You take a "red pill" in a hope of a change, trading comfy illusion to something that has more "weight" to it. A more socially acceptable approach, right side of the history, a "good fight". But everything you need in your life is an aim and something you genuinely enjoy doing.
The only world that matters is the one you create, as this is the essense of a choice and expression of free will.

The thing about Matrix is that all the people who wakes up in the real world knows there is something wrong and this thought torments them, Neo felt like shit even if his job wasn't that demanding. This apply to gays like Cypher, they can't live like a regular person in the matrix so when he made the deal with Smith he asked for his memory to be erased, thinking that will make his life any more tolerable, at the end it's not that they think the matrix is real, is that they're too scared of dying.

The food in zion probably wouldn't be that bad. Their machines could grow fresh vegetables and if you want variety you could just have simulated meals. They have machines doing all the work so you could just spend all day cooking and playing video games in simulations. It would be awesome. You don't have to work on a ship.

No his ship doesn't seem like it's been affected by this EMP cloud at all. Pretty unclear why they would need a man at all, obviously they wouldn't, the reader needs a man though, so there's a man.

The clouds were created to block the sun since solar power was the machines power source. It wasn't created to prevent them to get into space. They are fricking machines. They could just build a moon base with solar panels again and live in peace.

It doesn't take much to block emps. The US built massive wooden structures in the desert to host airplanes and test emp effects on them. They solved that shit during the cold war. A super intelligent ai race would have no problem with any of it.

The only way for the matrix to make sense is that the machines keep the humans enslaved out of spite. That's it.

Sorry bro, not defending the comic book by neil gaiman the other poster mentioned, but its well accepted that the canon is comprised by more than just the movies in the matrix franchise.

The website that had short stories is 100% canon.
Matrix Online was also canon at some point before Matrix 4 retconned it.

??? That is an effective way to reflect radiation. What are you trying to get at. It's a much better solution than using heavy lead caskets. They probably use graphene to protect pills in nuclear powered air planes since lead was too heavy. If such planes exist, which they probably do now since they've been working on them since the 60s.

it "reflects" (actually redirects down the film) sub-terahertz electrical radiation, and only most of it, which isn't enough to prevent damage.

                >pills
Pilots. Low thrust of nuclear engines were too weak to carry the heavy lead protecting the pilots. Using graphene would solve that problem and give you a plane that could stay in the air for months.

Because it's easy to see that the Matrix would achieve their dreams of a VR gf. They're losers. They'd rather have a fake gf than the real thing. Sure women are annoying, but they want a gf that is a slave to them and acts perfect in every way. Something impossible for any human to do. They would support humanity's enslavement if it means they get a VR gf. That's how pathetic they are. They support trans humanism because they want VR gfs.

First off, you're a homosexual. Second, not everyone freed works on a ship. They probably have lab grown meet and underground farms for fresh food. I'm pretty sure there was fresh food people were offering him as tribute when he got off the elevator when he got to zion. Even then, you could scarf down the oatmeal and have delicious tendies in a simulation.

The unlimited possibilities of simulations would make living in zion worth it. It would be a coomers dream world.

I believe the Machines are taking care of the human race the best they can.

They give the beligerant, driven people a pointless cause to fight for, a common enemy to avoid human-human war, while keep everyone else safe in pods, without any disease, and with enough nutrients and resources to keep a person alive from birth to death of natural causes. Somehow!

Plenty of debunks already proven that the battery nonsense is unsustainable. Machines know nuclear physics, they know how to mine uranium and build efficient atomic energy.

The Redpill reality is just another layer simulation to keep the violent urges entertained. No one ever left their pods.

It was always odd to me that no one ever questions whether the "real world"is just another simulation. Like, that would be the first question I would ask when unplugged. You would be mind fricked forever never knowing if life is real or not. Especially when neo starts wirelessly destroying the machines.

There was another movie that did this though. I think it was called 13th floor.

Where is the evidence that the real world is a simulation?
Neo was wirelessly still connected to the matrix

            Anonymous

Did he have a wireless organ or cybernetic implant or something. Are the sentinels constantly connected to the matrix too? What about the bombs shot at the ship when they approached the machine city. It makes no sense that they would be connected to anything related to neo. Same for the power lines, how was he connected to those.

You don't need evidence there is another layer of the simulation. That would defeat its purpose. If it existed they would need to be fooled by it. Neo doing what he does in the real world would throw up some red flags.

              Anonymous

Zion was a robot creation. All humans initially pulled out are cyborgs. They probably all have wireless implants so they can be tracked when the inevitable slaughter happens.

The One has admin level computer access, he just doesn't realise it applies to the real world until he goes blind, then the wireless signals allow him to view the real world. Wifi signals can be used to map out rooms. The CIA has the technology to do this TODAY, remotely without you knowing.

its because humans offer and come from something they can't, in pure materialist reality, quantify.

Because the humans tried to kill the machines. The machines don't want to kill the humans but they want to get rid of them as a threat.

I mean, in reality we are probably already living in a simulated universe anyways so why would another sim matter. The only difference is we haven't invented our own simulations for entertainment purposes or educational download of information. These are the only benefits of the machine world. Everything else sucks.

The Matrix is an even better film if you imagine it as a lot of dreamings Neo have, mixed up with some paranoid schizophrenia. He happens to be a talented programmer, he gets connected to two known terrorists and is brainwashed into their cult-like doctrine of terrorist atracks and mass-shooting.

From that point on, he shaves, starts practicing some martial arts, learns how to use guns, goes on a completely insane rampage in the city, kills innocent guards on a military facility, blows up an elevator, kills more guards, steals a chopper, kills more people, rescues the terrorist, then blow the chopper on another building. After that he kills a homeless man throwing him in the subway rails after a psychotic paranoid break, steals a phone, runs through the city seeing "agents" everywhere and, in the end, gets shot and dies. His last seconds of conscience are filled with the dream of being reborn, winning the fight and flying away as Superman.

Also Trinity is a troony he sees as female.

I think everyone who watched the Matrix assumed that it's like our world, with potential for happiness and sorrow.
When Agent Smith does his speech about how humans rejected the "perfect" Matrix, we assume the machines then just made a "normal" Matrix.
But then it doesn't really make sense for humans to rebel against it so strongly. The real world is a shit hole, you'll have more opportunity for happiness in the Matrix.
So my conclusion is that the Matrix is meant to be a world of suffering. The simulation is meant to give you this life of drudgery. You'll never get a trad wife and retire to the country with tons of kids.
I'd take it even one step further and assume that maybe lots of people you build relationships with are just NPCs. Maybe even your kids. Then when your body dies all that stuff is just tossed out. No legacy.
None of it comes across too clearly in the movies. I think the Wachowskis are too out of touch with reality so for them the office job and the house wife are the ultimate depictions of human suffering, but for normal people we see that we think, "I could improve that life if it were me"

    Thank you for your time,

They've broken every young man's spirit and all it took was a few years of demoralization
Modern men think it's reasonable to pay real money to online strippers because it gives them a high when the stripper says their name and that's just one example of men settling for fake garbage

the Matrix is not as illusion though.
If you were born in NYC and lived there for 30 years then some shmuck told you that you live in a dream and he'll show you reality, only to take you to some tribal village in Africa, would you actually manage to adapt to it?
People born in the Matrix had their whole perception of reality shaped by it, even if they were to leave it, their psyche would still be under its rules and structures.
the only reason this debate happens when it comes to the Matrix is because Zion is not all that different from it when it comes to its rules and structure, had Zion been some weird ass foreign reality where Neo couldn't even grasp what he was looking at no one would be making the argument that the Matrix wasn't real.

It's an allegory for being gay and in the closet and other gays dragging you into their (underworld) world.

    Sequels expanded upon that.
    First movie:
    >Wake up Neo, we gotta fight the power
    Second movie:
    >Uh oh, the fight was pre-planned by the power, and we need to break the cycle
    Third movie:
    >The people and the power need to reach a compromise, because neither can survive without the other

The robots explained that the original Matrix was a paradise but that the humans chimped out. Maybe its all about humans want to destroy good things and never realizing how good they have it.
    >destroyed society by creating robots who would obviously dominate them
    >destroyed the actual Earth leaving it a wasteland
    >planning to destroy the Matrix so they can live in caves with Black folk and mutts and eat paste

some people value authenticity... the whole idea is only certain individuals recognize the matrix is a lie and it bothers them so much they need to free themselves from it no matter what.

if ur a blue pill fine but being proud of it is gay. some people prioritize truth over comfort.

I'd actually have been completely okay with living in Zion instead of Matrix if Zion wasn't full of Black folk.

What's this weird obsession with freedom?

Isn't it better to have a fair master than being free in a cruel world that won't care for you?

Because those on top are never fair. There's a reason why most ceos are sociopaths and you never hear about a good Ceasars or kings. Or hear anything good about China or Russia. Those in power will do anything to stay in power.
