Carol, Sam, Strange, Scott, Shang Chi and Thor as the core cast for the first movie with a bunch of glorified cameos, then literally everyone including Steve, Tony, all 3 Spider-men and the foX-men for Secret Wars using the multiversal collapse as an excuse

        Eternals flopped.
Dr Strange 2 underperformed since they were banking on it make 1.2 billion at least.
Thor 4 barely escaped being called a flop, but won't even break 700 million and severely underperformed.

He's right though. Ticket sales are divided between the studio and the theaters ticket sales. So not all that is going to Disney. After that you've got to pay off the marketing budget which often isn't included in the production budget numbers.

            In short, it underperformed.

they said for a while Tony and Steve will return if they have stories to tell for them and they around the time of secret wars is when people will be willing to accept a new recast for the avengers. Black person Secret Wars is likely going to bring back as many, and I mean as many characters as they can, not just Tobey and Andrew, but all of them, it's not gonna flop, it's gonna make 3 billion dollars.

Bringing that many A-list actors only means the salary costs are going to skyrocket, and the visual effects to top the Infinity War saga will need to be much more striking to convey even greater grandiosity. All of that, in the middle of what seems like a global economic slump to come, and long after something like IW stopped being novelty and became routine.

The average person goes to the theater like what? Once or twice a year? They’re spacing two big Avengers movies barely six months apart. Six fricking months. People are already jaded and tired of MCU shit, now Marvel is telling its audience it needs to see these two films within half a year of each other. There’s no breathing room with the property as it is now, I can’t believe they are doubling down on it. Despite the shallowness of projects, this will cement the MCU fatigue.

Audiences are bleeding either way, it's a balance of striking while the iron is still somewhat warm and cooling it with too many movies.
They'd probably adjust things once they see how successful the other shows still are.

      Anonymous

They're doing the same thing as Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions which is weird considering the latter underperformed because they released too close together. Infinity War and Endgame were spaced out just enough that audiences wanted to see the second part of the story.

        Anonymous

        >They're doing the same thing as Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions which is weird considering the latter underperformed because they released too close together

Revolutions came out close to a stacked December too with LOTR and HP and other stuff like Last Samurai, so maybe people saved their ticket money for other movies, perhaps Reloaded turned off a bit too many, and perhaps a bit too many people didn't like it either and word of mouth hurt it

          Anonymous

That and I think people were already a little divided over Reloaded so word of mouth might of hurt Revolutions a lot more then. I enjoyed both sequels enough but each one is a step down from the last. The Russos aren't involved with these Avengers films apparently so that's a bit of risk right there. Raimi could maybe handle it but on movies like that he'd have even less creative control than on DS2. But I believe most of MoM's problems were caused by Feige's overall vision and Waldron's writing, Raimi directed the hell out of it.

Sure, they exist, but none of them except maybe Kate has any business being an Avenger at this point (and her only because of the age issue). There's a step missing, and these other shows and movies don't seem to be about them.

              Anonymous

Kamala would love to be an Avenger since her role model is an Avenger. Marvels might set her up as one.

Cassie can easily take the mantle after Scott.

Tommy and Billy will be there redeeming Wanda.

              All the pieces are there.

                Anonymous

It's a matter of them organically becoming Avengers. Kamala joining Carol might work thanks to the Marvels, but taking on a mantle requires some kind of display of competence beforehand, redeeming Wanda requires growing up and becoming heroes in their own right etc. That shit is for second-tier material.

I doubt it'll be a blend. They can always do the original sometime when they have X-Men and Doom introduced.

I don’t get what you’re trying to say. The 2015 secret wars is the one with battle world and god emperor doom. That could still happen in phase 6 since doom is being introduced at the end of phase 4.

Which reminds me, it’s possible that we get a solo Doom movie in phase 5 or 6.

            You said:

Kang Dynasty will screw up the timelines etc leading to an adaptation of the modern 2015 Secret Wars.

Avengers: Secret Wars will adapt the modern Secret Wars with Battleworld etc and be part of the Multiverse Saga.

We won't get aspects of the original Beyonder and the original Secret Wars (1984) until later, if at all.

Probably won’t be the Beyonder most comic book fans think of, as some fricking jheri curl having weird looking White guy, but it’ll be some character that’s all powerful that creates a situation where all the heroes and villains are magically transported away to fight each other, and Doom somehow ends up stealing the all powerful characters powers and becomes a godlike being that’s a threat to all of the universe.

      It's not that ad look:
Phase 5 will have 12 installments, out of those 5 are series, 7 are movies.

Phase 6 will have 11 installments, we know about 3 movies, It's safe to assume that there'll be at least 3 more. I still have hope.

Probably one of those is Spider-Man 4.

And we might also get Captain America 5 or Thor 5 or Captain Marvel 3 or Guardians of the Galaxy 4 or Black Panther 3 or Doctor Strange 3

Maybe even Blade 2 or Thunderbolts 2

Frick. It doesn't look good for X-Men.

X-Men will be introduced in Secret Wars. They're going with the whole "we always existed but were in hiding because society is mean to us" thing

Phases 7, 8, and 9 will be The Mutant Saga, and primarily focus on the X-Men with the Fantastic Four and various Avenger type teams in the background.

          >They're going with the whole "we always existed but were in hiding because society is mean to us" thing
I'd heard that the X-Men were coming via the multiverse rather than already being in the MCU current. I suspect they could be introduced in Secret Wars and then when everything is rebooted it'll be like they always existed on 616.

But I felt like the MCU should end or at least reboot with phase 6 because that's a nice round number like Star Wars (before the sequels) and then they put all the attention on the X-Men, Fantastic Four and probably Spider-Man who should've always been the center of the Marvel Universe imo but Feige was left with the B/C-listers and had to center everything around the Avengers instead.

            Anonymous

I feel like a multiverse X-Men could be less impactful in a way, but it would probably be a bit less convoluted than my theory.

Also, personally I want this current iteration MCU to go on for a long while, I feel like there's a lot that can be done before hitting the hard reset button. Do a soft-reboot of sorts after Secret Wars: New avengers lineup + spinoff teams (Young Avengers, Midnight Sons/Suns, etc,), X-Men and Fantastic Four fully established, Spider-Man front and center (probably Miles Morales, even though I want another Peter Parker trilogy), hell, maybe even an Iron Man recast or some shit, but keep the current canon intact. Then, do three more sagas: one primarily focused on Mutants, one primarily focused on the new Avengers type teams, and then go out with a bang by doing a huge Galactus centered phase with a 3 movie finale to the MCU as a whole.

Then a few years later, they can hard reboot.

              Anonymous

Yeah but I was thinking unlike with Krasinski Reed Richards they'd introduce the actors who will be playing the 616 X-Men to prepare us for Phase 7, maybe Secret Wars is even partially about passing the torch over to teams like the F4 and X-Men.

And I get what you mean but rebooting the timeline just keeps things from getting too messy. And if they want to make small changes like having Norman Osborn exist in the main MCU and being a villain in Tom Holland's next Spidey trilogy like in the Freshman cartoon, a soft reboot is the best way to incorporate these things to avoid criticisms like "why didn't these characters show up in the MCU until now or never get mentioned?". A soft reboot doesn't mean story threads from the previous phase can't continue, it's the equivalent of Marty getting back to 1985 at the end of BttF and seeing some things have changed or pic related. That's how I'd treat a phase 7 616.

                Anonymous

That's what I'm saying. I'm okay with, and actually am starting to like the idea of a soft-reboot. I just don't want a full on hard reset (as in none of the previous movies matter, it's phase 1 again, etc,) for a long while because a lot more can be done before a hard reset would even start to become necessary.

                >phase 5 haves tons of movies
                >phase 6 have 3
                >2025 just have 2 movies

what the frick happened? is this the end?

Phase 6 will have more movies and shows, there is 8 slots that aren't Fantastic Four, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and Avengers: Secret Wars. It's definitely not the end of the MCU, but maybe there will be a soft-reboot of sorts.

So phase 4 and 5 have no Avengers and then they shit out two of them in 6 but they have nothing to do with each other?

                >2 avengers movies in the same year
                >one six months after another

                arte they fricking moronic???

                It's almost certainly gonna be a part 1 / part 2 situation.

The Kang Dynasty will end on a big cliffhanger à la Infinity War, probably with Doom killing Kang, and that somehow causing all of the Marvel film multiverses to merge / collide. (Also, I'm thinking they're gonna combine a lot of the older Marvel films to make things simpler, looking something like this):
                >Late 90s / Early 2000s Marvel
Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, Nicolas Cage's Ghost Rider, Ben Affleck's Daredevil, Wesley Snipes' Blade, and Eric Bana's Hulk
                >The FoxVerse
                Fox X-Men, 2005 Fantastic Four
                >The Sonyverse
Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man, Tom Hardy's Venom, Morbius, whatever else they shit out by then

Then, Secret Wars will be about Battleworld, multiversal frickery, and Doctor Doom

                Anonymous

It'd be pretty much like the Marvel comics where they soft reboot every so many years to keep things from becoming too convoluted/restrictive. But you'd still be able to acknowledge major events like the Battle of NYC or the Snap. Nothing like a DC's New 52 tier hard reboot where they throw almost everything out. Marvel wouldn't want to cut ties with the MCU for a long while. That day might come but not in the 2020s.

          >Doctor Strange 2 ends with the news of a possible incursion, Strange 3 (probably happening shortly after Fantastic 4 in phase 6) will probably deal with failing to stop said incursion, with the 2 avengers movies dealing with fighting another universe to survive.

Feels like filler now we know what's coming. Loki season 2, Daredevil and them branching out with more animated shows is fine but some of that other stuff just sounds boring and like milking the brand. And you know shows like Echo, Armor Wars and Ironheart are going to rely on cameos and teases for more interesting projects. We already know that's the case with Echo because Daredevil and Kingpin are in it.

      Anonymous

Now that they have the rights to Silver Surfer I doubt it. My guess is he either has a role in Wonder Man with Wanda, Armor Wars because of his Jarvis roots or Thunderbolts if he gets manipulated to join the team. My bet is Wonder Man because they can give him his "soul" back in that via Simon Williams brainwaves or something like in the comics and from there they can do the West Coast Avengers thing.

        Anonymous

Connecting MCU Vision to Wonderman just because it happened in the comics would be the worst kind of synergy, doing something just because it happened in the comics, regardless of whether it's good for the character.

Just let Wonderman's show be a self-contained comedy about a superhero trying to make it in Hollywood. Trying to make him 'the real Vision' or 'Wanda's new love interest' will only achieve the same thing as it did in comics, and make him hated by their fans.

          Anonymous

Wanda's rumored to be in it so we'll see I guess, a self contained solid story like Moon Knight would be fine by me if it's good. I think at the very least it'd be a cool way of setting up West Coast Avengers with the LA setting. Plus White Vision being drawn to Hollywood and trying to understand humanity through actors and films would give it a similar theme to WandaVision with it's sitcom angle.

I wasn't thinking it'd be like the comics because it'd be Simon meeting Vision for the first time and them becoming friends maybe like a comedic duo where Vis is the straight man. If they did this I think it'd be cool if they put Wanda in Agatha's show as part of her Coven and we get Wanda and Vision being spilt between two shows setting up a reunion in the future.

Playing devil's advocate they do trademark multiple names for the same project just in case they change their minds like they did with the Agatha series. Some of these sound really fake while others not so much but who knows with what obscure projects the MCU will greenlight these days.

Eternity War and Eternity Saga could be Eternals related, the former being the subtitle for a potential sequel maybe. Avengers Timeless sounds like a scrapped title.

Seems like they are playing a long game with Xmen, will likely tease them here and there, add mutants to the background of these movies and then in a few years when people have lost interest announce the first Xmen movie if they need an ace in the hole.

I was never a huge Marvel fan growing up so the popularity of the characters and teams is a little lost on me. Spider-Man and Hulk are definitely up there but besides them I always thought Wolverine and the X-Men were huge. I hadn't even heard of the Avengers until the movie.

Either way it makes sense they're biding their time with the X-Men since they'll want to put some distance between them and the Fox-Men and they know characters of that calibre will rejuvenate the brand if casual audiences do start to get bored with the all these C/D-list comics characters they're trying to level up.

Black but it looks like he has the blue mask or some kind of prosthetic in the Ant-Man poster. They might also have variants played by different actors. Like I could see them casting a white actor as one Kang variant to throw us off at first. Maybe Iron Lad is white.

They're loosely inspired by the comics, at a conceptual level basically. Sometimes they'll take moments and try to recreate them for brownie points but they'll never adapt something in a way films try to do with novels like Dune, LOTR or Harry Potter.

Marvel and DC are treated more like mythologies than any single story. If it's a graphic novel it has a better chance of being adapted more faithfully like Watchmen which at least resembles the plot of the comic overall.

    >Shang-Chi
    >Captain Marvel
    >Black Panther (Shuri or M'Baku most likely)
    >Thena or Kingo for the comic relief

I don't think Doctor Strange will be involved this time and he was never a full time Avenger anyway. He's one of my favorite characters too but I don't want him carrying everything or jobbing. I don't think Kamala will be on the main team even if she was in that cruise ship video thing, it'd be weird letting a kid join the team, at least with Spider-Man it wasn't as obvious he was a kid to everyone, Cap was surprised anyway.

Also I think it'd be good development for Scott to be leading the New Avengers with Hope since Ant-Man and the Wasp were founding members of the comic Avengers and they never got that in the MCU.

I think he’s gotta be, secret wars will probably be dealing with an incursion that was failed to stop in Strange 3, so he’s gotta be there doing something in the avengers movies, maybe not on the frontlines like IW but dealing with controlling things some other way

Unless he has bigger fish to fry in DS3 and he's busy during that time. But if he shows up in Avengers 5 or 6 I'd like it more if it's in Battleworld and he's introduced as a lieutenant of Kang like he worked under Doom in the comics, but he ultimately betrays him playing the long game like he did in Infinity War. Just because I figure Strange being on the Avengers again would be kind of lame for him. I like him to be off on his own mission a little like Gandalf, he meets the heroes now and again but he's helping them out in his own way elsewhere.

Not even doomsaying, but I genuinely can't see the MCU lasting much longer. People are already starting to openly, publicly check out. Nothing is ever going to be as popular as the infinity Saga and Disney just looks desperate to recapture that. Franchises cannot last forever and they need to understand that.

Every single time a MCU movie has ended with "[X] will return" I just can't see myself waiting another 8 years to see what mediocre movie they're going to get next.

Frankly I checked out around the time they started doing post-credit scenes with other films' heroes because it instantly screamed "we're going to pull the same shit we did in comics where you have to buy different runs to get a 'full' saga, and it'll work here because it hasn't been done to death in films yet". I already hate the idea of being married to a writer in comics rather than a character, now they want me to do the same with directors, except for when those directors are even more homoegenised under the Mouse

Honestly I hope they retire the Avengers as major MCU team after Secret Wars and have the main groups be the F4 and X-Men with Future Foundation being introduced down the line to expand the former's roster. Then just have smaller Avengers teams scattered around like West Coast, Great Lakes and Young but no more THE Avengers.

After two underperforming movies and an outright bomb it doesn't make any sense that they'd even be planning a new F4 movie in the first place.

I liked the Tim Story Fantastic Four movies. And the cartoon was cool. When I read the comics I realized they were playing pretty safe with the movies, especially Doom, but that's normal for early 2000s superhero flicks.

Also they have two of the best Stan Lee cameos.

          >but no more THE Avengers.
that’s basically what it is now though, “the avengers” were pretty much just the core cast of Avengers 1/2, and most of them are either dead/retired/solo, the only reason it’s still called “Avengers” is because it’s just what they’ll call team up movies

            Anonymous

They're still trying to force the Avengers as a thing though like the organization has to continue despite nearly every major member being out of action. The ending of Shang-Chi was the most blatant example. Just let Shang-Chi and Katy start their own team like Agents of Atlas or the Protectors, or join the Masters of the Mystic Arts like America Chavez, even better introduce the Defenders into the main MCU as the successors to the Avengers under Strange/Wong. Wong has a Nick Fury-like role at this point with the way he's showing up in everything and recruiting people anyway.

              Anonymous

Just because they interact with other characters doesn’t mean they’re gonna instantly Team up with them and stay that way, next Shang Chi will probably have no crossover characters at all, maybe just iron fist or something

                Anonymous

I don't think Wong said they're Avengers yet so you're probably right there. I just hope they branch out and create new teams. Like I said you already have Wong and Kamar-Taj so they can be to the Defenders what SHIELD was to the Avengers. I think Shang-Chi would fit in better there. And then if they bring back all the Netlfix heroes they can rebrand them as Heroes for Hire maybe.

                >I don't think Wong said they're Avengers

                >Captain Marvel
                >Hulk
And the rest are doing their own thing, even Captain Marvel is, she basically just came in Endgame and went away again. The point of phase 4 I think is building up these smaller teams, to where they’ll join up eventually for the two Avengers movies, so far we have and have the possibility of
                >Midnight Suns (moon knight, blade)
                >Street Level heroes (Spider-Man, Daredevil, don’t know if they’ll reintroduce Jessica jones but it was rumored)
                >Thunderbolts

                >Sorcerers (doctor strange, wong, America Chavez, Rintrah)

                >Wakanda

Midnight Sons is interesting because they purposely set Moon Knight in London to move away from everything being based in New York. But there's Kit Harington's Black Knight and potentially Captain Britain+MI13 too if that's the start of some UK MCU worldbuilding. They just announced they're building a massive studio in England around 2025 that's going to be for Disney+ and Netflix stuff so we might start getting a lot more MCU shot in the UK instead of everything in Atlanta.

I mean the MCU has never been that precious about which villains they place where considering a lot of their less popular heroes don't have very big rogues galleries or share villains with others. But no MODOK is the main villain of Ant-Man 3, who in the MCU is Darren Cross mutated from being trapped in the Quantum Realm. Kang saves him and sends him after the Ant family. The connection to Ant-Man is probably only there because of the Quantum Tunnel thing they introduced in Endgame and Kang is a time traveler so he'd be interested in that tech.

Speaking of characters that aren't from Ant-Man, Bill Murray is playing the ruler of some Quantum Realm civilization who was only in the Hulk comics.

A clear announcement now might appease some of the people who are really angry about this, and at a time when they definitely need to be trying to win back former fans they've lost, that's arguably more important than keeping her return a surprise post-credit scene in something years down the line. They're also not announcing anything at all for Vision and we have no idea if they're planning a surprise appearance somewhere for him, or they just have no plans at all.

Even an announcement that they'll both be part of the Avengers team in those movies would be something.

Marvel doesn't know what to do with Wanda no matter the medium. Where are her tie-in comics? Why not give her a solo movie or another D+ series instead of cramming her into Doctor Strange?

            Anonymous

            >Marvel doesn't know what to do with Wanda no matter the medium. Where are her tie-in comics?
Marvel Comics spent fifteen years not wanting to use Wanda because writers and editors, actual grown human beings, were angry at the character over what previous Marvel writers and editors did with her, and they won't do a WandaVision comic because they don't ship it, and because they don't personally like it, they'd rather leave money on the table just to make sure nobody else is allowed to read about it. They don't seem to care about her at all and act like they've just been hoping to keep on ignoring her, and wait out her time in the MCU. All they do want to do is use her as a supporting character to Magneto, something her fans have no interest in.

            >Why not give her a solo movie or another D+ series instead of cramming her into Doctor Strange?
Because MoM was their plan. This was what they always wanted to do with her, "because it happened in the comics", and her getting so popular that people rejected it wasn't planned or expected. Marvel Comics are just leaving money on the table, but Disney really don't seem to understand just how badly they've screwed up with what they've done to her in the MCU. There's a real possibility that they're stubborn enough to double down on trying to push her as a villain, or moronic enough to try pushing new love interests for her or for Vision instead of having them find each other again.

              Anonymous

Why don't the comics people like her exactly? As for the MCU, I can only speculate but maybe Feige was setting Wanda up to be his own Jean Grey before they got the rights to the X-Men back, and he never course corrected. I know Feige is a big X-Men fan though so it'd be weird to do that.

                Anonymous

                >Why don't the comics people like her exactly?
A mixture of people who agree with John Byrne's disgust for her robosexuality, and people who saw taking the powers away from mutant NPCs as 'genocide'. Quesada and Bendis using Wanda as a plot device to achieve that made her unforgiveable to them, and the comics refused to ever let it go or move past it. Those same comics insisted that the mutants trying to take the Inhumans' powers away wasn't genocide, because it's OK when mutants do it.

Sounds really petty tbh. If they love synergy so much make comic Wanda more like the MCU version and remove that controversial history from her backstory if it bothers them. But the aversion to her relationship wih Vision would explain why they've been kept apart in the comics for years and Vision got his own family instead.

                Anonymous

It really is that petty, and it's been going on since 1989. In the 2010s, when they knew exactly what the MCU was doing, Marvel responded by attempting to push both Wanda and Vision into relationships with other characters just so they couldn't be together. Remender's Uncanny Avengers and Tom King's Vision book are both trying to force the idea that Vision needs to be with his own kind, because him being married to a human woman just really triggers the autism of someone within Marvel. Wanda and Vision getting popular IRL with people who don't read comics doesn't seem to have convinced these people to reconsider or that they could make money from them.

It could be bs but I heard Cruise did shoot scenes and they were cut to be repurposed for Secret Wars. Considering how much didn't make it into Thor Love and Thunder (Peter Dinklage, Jeff Goldblum, lena Headey, Russel Crowe as Mephisto, ValkyriexSif romance) it wouldn't be that crazy, the Wanda killing Mordo rumor was already confirmed via concept art.

The scene sounded like a post credit thing though. He shows up at the Illuminati HQ after Wanda's massacre and that's it. Might be setting up Superior Iron Man leading an incursion to get revenge.

The Mephisto thing might've been clickbait. tbh they could've gone that route and then treated Crowe's Satan like Trevor Slattery when the actual Mephisto comes along. Do the Council of Red even. Take advantage of the "X is Mephisto" meme.

No "could be". It is 100% BS. The only character who was seriously considered for the Illuminati and scrapped was Ghost Rider.

Just found out that Valkyrie and Sif thing came from Grace Randolph anyway so take with a pile of salt. But Sif does have a tiny role in the movie she definitely had more scenes doing something. And yeah probably all gags or Gorr killing those characters off but my point was that a lot of the cameos were cut. Maybe they were all holed up in Omnipotence City and there would've been goofy comedy bits with them that didn't add anything to the plot.

    Let me get this straight.

Not only do we have the storylines themselves (Iron man 1-3 for example), we have the interactions between all storylines and a shared world (MCU Phase 1-3), but now we're also going to have to keep track of everything across phases? Like, there's going to be an arc *across* phases?

What happened to good old 'writing new stories'?

      Anonymous

      >Like, there's going to be an arc *across* phases?
This was already the case with phase 1-3, by the end of that they titled it the “Infinity Saga”, they’re just doing the same thing here by calling it the Multiverse Saga

I don't like the direction we're going with this.

It's the same with start wars. We had enough of a story with the original trilogy and the prequels, then they came up with the sequels. Then what? We're going to have the sequel-prequels? Same thing with Harry Potter. We had the original story, albeit shaped into eight different movies, and they wanted more with the magical beasts movies.

Hollywood is increasingly stretching what they already have across a longer period of time. It scares me. Are we that parched for new good IP's?

The phases nowadays seem so arbitrary.
P1 was pretty straight forward, get the main Avengers team together and end with a group film.
P2 was a crap shoot of loosely connected sequels.
P3 was more sequels and some new characters and end on a grand Avengers film with everyone in it.
P4 is a nothing sandwich with some multiverse thing thrown into it and the next phases dont even have an Avengers film until 2025.
I thought Marvel was sold as having grand plans thought up years in advance and yet the things announced dont seem to have any connection between them.

That seems clear now. Phase 4 is going out with a whimper.
        >Multiverse of Madness wasn't some Civil War tier event that broke open the multiverse (I liked the more contained story but they overhyped it)
        >Love & Thunder felt like complete filler with low stakes
        >Wakanda Forever was handicapped by the death of it's lead actor and had to scramble to create a story around while setting up Namor
I'll give credit to Shang-Chi and Eternals for trying to set up new heroes at least. If Phase 4 was more like Phase 1 introducing new heroes it would've been a clearer direction.

Yeah the MCU never had a concrete plan but they would throw ideas out there and see what gained traction. I think Boseman and Larson were both candidates to lead the MCU going forward after Endgame but Brie didn't take and they lost Boseman. I thought BP was overrated but it was a phenomenon and Chadwick embodied the character in the same way RDJ did for Iron Man, plus I liked that he was an actual serious hero and not quippy.

I feel pretty confidant saying BP2 would've been the most successful Phase 4 film based on the first film's success.

            >but now that he’s gone we’ve got nothing.
            We have Spider-Man

Spidey is ultimately Sony property though so they can never have him as their flagship character for risk of losing him if the deal goes south like it did before.

Love and Thunder had pretty huge stakes, with all the gods being potentially wiped out, but it just felt lowly because there was hardly any Gorr/Eternity

            Anonymous

The stakes were high on paper but the film didn't convey it that well with how rushed it was and the comedy. They really wasted the Gorr storyline, and the Jane one. Could've been an multi movie arc in and of itself, you set up gods like Khonshu, Bast, the Eternals/Celestials and the Olympians and Gorr is brought in. In hindsight they could've used Harry Styles Starfox in Thor 4, he would've fit the tone.

The studio mandated that the film be under 2 hours so they can get as many showings in as possible. Hopefully that's not a trend going forward with a lot of MCU movies.

              >Scenes showing how Thor's grandfather killed his family.
              >All other kinds of explanation and build up lost.
Thor got shafted by these films:
              >Was meant to grow to be king.
              >Nah frick that.
              Thor's extended cast:

              Odin:
              >Meant to have scenes implying he once set out to get the infinite stones for himself.
              >Meant to imply he was brutal to try and help teach Thor not to be when he is King.

I always thought it was a shame they abandoned the more high fantasy feel in favor of a Guardians of the Galaxy vibe, the MCU versions anyway. They were going for a fantasy epic type of when they hired Branagh and the GoT guy to director the first and second ones but they couldn't commit. They could've lightened the tone and kept it fantasy, look at Discworld or even The Hobbit.

Thor has had the most "course corrections" in terms of the MCU.
                >Thor 1 was directed by Kenneth Brannagh and made to be more Shakespearean melodrama.
                >The Dark World had director issues. Patty Jenkins was originally going to direct and seemed to want more of that original tone. Alan Taylor ended up directing. Film ended up a mess with cuts and issues to it.
                >Course corrected hard with Ragnorak.
                >Now we have this mess.
                >Sif actress injured on The Dark World was mostly cut out.
                >Loads of cast changes.
                >Ended up completely gutting any fantasy adventure feel.

                >there’s actually a third avengers movie in the same year called AVENGERS: Battle World
                mite b coo

I am talking about the MODERN secret wars:
                >The storyline involves the destruction of the Marvel Universe and various other alternate universes (including those seen in the Ultimate Marvel and Marvel 2099 imprints, the "Age of Apocalypse" storyline, the Marvel 1602 universe, and the "House of M" storyline), with each universe's respective Earth combining with each other into Battleworld, a planet that exhibits the aspects of the various universes.
Since this film is part of the Multiverse Saga it won't be the original Secret Wars.

There’s gonna be plenty of kang (at least versions of him) before Kamg dynasty so he’ll probably have a good run.

I doubt it'll be a blend. They can always do the original sometime when they have X-Men and Doom introduced.

                You said:

                >AVENGERS: Battle World
There isn't going to be an Avengers: Battleworld is what I was saying, because the Battleworlds will be part of the Avengers: Secret Wars movies.

Doom is getting introduced as early as black panther 2 possibly, he could have his own solo outings/more teases/appearances like Thanos has before F4, which is conveniently also before the next Avengers movies

                Anonymous

Think about it structurally, Kang is who they are building up to. Sure rumours are Doom instigates the conflict between Atlantis and Wakanda, is in F4 etc. But making him the overall villain at the end seems rushed? Save that for later.

wat r u talking about son
All I said is that a third movie specifically about the events of battle world might be cool. Realistically, I’d want Secret Wars to mainly adapt Time Runs Out somehow, and then have a movie dedicated To Battle World.

And I said those elements will be in the Avengers: Secret Wars film. They aren't going to seperate them into more films. Why is that so hard for you to grasp? Not talking complex stuff here anon.

Doesn’t comic Secret Wars last a long time? Despite it being called “Avengers Secret Wars”, they could have movies following that, also taking place on Battleworld, that focus on the characters that are there. for example, Thor 5 could be completely on Battleworld, still part of the Secret Wars story technically.
Essentially, “Secret Wars” the movie could just kick it off, while the entirety of Phase 7 could be the remainder of it. though I don’t think they’ll do that

It'll set up a new status quo, probably with the X-Men and everything else. But we will not get a whole Phase of it. Feige's current approach is just to dangle a load of threads. They won't just suddenly focus on Battleworld for a whole phase.

I will concede that Thor was borderline cosmic in the comics dealing with aliens threats. Ego the Living Planet was introduced in his comic after all, but it's the comedy that's the issue. Tonally it's too close to Gunn's GotG. They could've played it straight and done a campy He-Man/Flash Gordon thing with Thor even but Taika always makes it ironic. It's everything wrong with MCU humor. Didn't Raimi want to direct a Thor movie in the 90s? I think his style of humor would be more fitting tbh.

My guess is the plot of the Secret War movie will be about the Avengers breaking up into team to each take down one of the Kang incarnations so that they can go home and free the multiverse from his influence
We'll have one team going after OG Kang, another going after Immortus, another after Rama Tut, another after Iron Lad

I feel like we can ditch the whole "Phases" thing at this point. Like, who cares.

Like, you could convince yourself there was some sense of escalation when each phase was bookended with an Avengers movie, but at this point, Marvel has completely lost all sense of forward momentum, I feel. Phases 1 and 2 were gathering and subsequent aftermath of Avengers. Dramatic shift in tone.
What makes Phase 5 different from Phase 4?

I feel like you're putting too much thought into "phases". They are more or less them grouping productions together, probably for their own internal organisation. They don't really mean anything.

        Anonymous

Didn’t Feige want to stop calling them phases at the end of endgame anyway? The only reason it probably stuck is people kept calling them phases

          Anonymous

The phase thing outside the first one is mostly arbitrary. They had a loose plan of building to the Avengers film with origin stories. Then an even looser plan building towards Thanos.

Phases don't matter. It is just how they are currently grouping stuff. But since they have a scattershot approach now with loads of stuff, series + movies, they matter even less. Except from when they do those presentations at SDCC since people want to see a timeline of consumer content.

        Anonymous

        >They are more or less them grouping productions together, probably for their own internal organisation. They don't really mean anything.
Functionally yes, but ostensibly they do advertise them as "phases" to the audience and pretend they should mean something for you to get hyped about as you enter a new phase, because Fury mentioned "phase 1" and "phase 2" of his Avengers Initiative before. So it's supposed to be a funny meta thing like everything is part of Fury's plans and contingencies, but it's actually unrelated to anything at this point and they're afraid to stop now after already extending it too long.

It would make way more sense if they gave the "sagas" different names that referenced a general theme, like Avengers Assemble, Infinity Saga, post-Endgame, Multiverse Mayhem, or whatever

          Anonymous

They did do that at least with this, I guess it’ll be phase 4-6

      Anonymous

Assuming each saga will have 3 phases, it's a beginning / middle / end type deal probably.

For example, both Phase 1 and Phase 4 were about setting up the ground work with new heroes, and building new teams (Iron Man, Captain America and Thor in Phase 1 / Moon Knight, Shang-Chi, and Eternals in Phase 4)
Phase 2 and Phase 5 are about expanding on that ground work via sequels + different sides of the MCU (Iron Man 3, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Ant-Man in Phase 2 / Ant-Man: Quantumania, The Marvels, and Daredevil in Phase 5)
Phase 3 and Phase 6 are about bringing everything together to defeat a big bad and make billions at the box office (Thanos in Phase 3, Kang and Doctor Doom in Phase 6)

I just don't know who is supposed to carry this avenger's team.

The only characters left with any real personality are Strange, Thor, and Ant Man. Falcon and captain marvel have the charisma of a gas station ham sandwich, and Spiderman got bonged out of the avengers.

Hopefully Ant-Man. Strange should be above Avengers shit and Thor seems like he's past that kind of thing now.

An ensemble movie that expects ant man to do all the work on the charisma angle is gonna be genuinely shit.

I like how Scott appears to be trying to stay strong in front of Kang but it seems that it might be too much for him to handle alone, he might not win this time but not entirely lose either. He will probably play a big part in the next film trying to form new Avengers to fight Kang.

I liked the first Doctor Strange, reminded me of the Matrix, not too quippy, good character arc and script and probably the best third act in the MCU. Tbh I think Cumberbatch is a bit miscast but I can't think of many actors who could fill the role besides Joaquin Phoenix who passed on it for Joker.

Just bland wasted villain (Mads) and another origin movie. I enjoyed parts of it but still. Sometime about the character and actor stand out for me more in other things when he's played off against different people? Maybe the side cast in Dr Strange movies don't quite work for me? (Even though I like Wong etc and think he's good.)

          Anonymous

I'm more forgiving towards it knowing Mads' character's cut backstory about his dead wife and baby and they deleted Strange's trauma around his sister he watched drown as a kid. The film was about loss and Strange's arc is pretty bittersweet. Idk it just felt heavier than most MCU movies even with pieces missing. But yeah for most people they find it bland or mid and I get that too.

            >cut

I think that's true for the majority of MCU villains yeah. Even Thanos had a whole flashback sequence cut down to that quick glimpse of past Titan he gives us with the reality stone. Mickey Rourke and Chris Eccleston were both vocal about their characters motivations being watered down too.

Doctor Strange 3 and hopefully it's about him and Clea with Dormammu and/or Nightmare as villains instead of another crossover thing like MoM. The Guardians have had the least interference in their films I feel, vol 2 and 3 are both largely disconnected from the wider MCU storyline, or vol 3 seems to be atm. I want Strange to get a solid conclusion to his trilogy. Something that's more of a sequel to DS1 instead of WandaVision. They did Mordo dirty too.

its like saying no one cares about Spider-man cause TASM was poorly received only for NWH to shit all over everything else in Phase 4 cancer cause it gave people what they wanted, why normalgays dont hold Disney to the same standard as Sony, Fox or Warner Bros when it comes to bad movies or shows is still a mystery thou

              Anonymous

Again, it's lifelong comics fans who want "a good adaptation" of Fantastic Four or X-Men, not the normie majority, who really don't care at all. People on Cinemaphile need to talk to actual human beings outside of comics nerd circles, and actually talk to them about superhero movies, which ones they saw, which ones they want to see. They had repeated opportunities to see F4 and X-Men movies in the past, and most of them chose not to. They're not going to get hyped for them just because comics fans keep insisting they're "meant to be" more important and more popular than the MCU characters they've been watching for years.

The two ASM movies weren't as well received as other Spider-Man movies, but they still made a lot of money compared with most other superhero movies of the time, because people like Spider-Man. It's not a valid comparison, because the F4 characters never really took off with normies, and the only X-Men characters who did were Wolverine and Deadpool. 90s kids who grew up with the X-Men cartoon weren't enough of an audience to make the Fox movies as successful as Spider-Man, Batman and the MCU, and younger generations have grown up not caring about them at all.

                >Trying to claim the first trilogy and DoFP were flops that nobody watched is an insane delusion.
They aren't flops, but they're not huge blockbusters that literally everyone saw either. It's a lesser franchise that consistently makes enough money to generate sequels, but not coming anywhere close to the biggest movies of the time. The X-Men even got utterly mogged by their own comedy spinoff in the form of the Deadpool movies.

While I do want him as Mr. Fantastic again, it’s cool that they even got him for that small moment (wish he had more to work with but it makes sense that he didn’t) I’m sure they’ll get someone great, even if they don’t seem it at first they will be once it comes out, a lot of the MCU actors were unknown before
      >teased all the way from mid 2021 and movie will be out in late '24
This isn’t a problem, pretty sure it was teased way before that too. Infinity war (and endgame technically) were revealed before age of ultron was out in like 2014 and came out like 4 years later
