We all liked it, but the ending didn't stick at all
It would've stuck if ashi got out of existience the moment aku got sworded, but for some reason there was enough time for a wedding before that happened

EVERYONE likes the begining of the final season. It just falls apart at the end.
People like season 5, it's just the ending that's controversial. Frankly I'm just happy it actually got an ending, and that Jack actually got to go back in time.
Though in the comics and The Guardian episode imply Jack was originally meant to give up on going back to the past and instead focus on defeating Aku in the moment. Seems like the creator changed his mind on that and threw Jack a bone by letting him go back in time instead.
It's solid, nothing to get too excited about. Just glad my boy finally found peace.
Started out very strong as everyone probably agrees, but devolved into "remember these guys from the original run of the show? here they all are again!!!"
Also I know the original voice actor died so it can't really be helped, the guy who voices Aku did a good job, the script is good and he acts in-character, but he sounds Mexican moreso than he does broadly east Asian like Mako did
Nu Aku sounded like Ren from Ren and Stimpy
But if Aku disappears that would mean nothing in the series happened. Having some time remnants has always been a staple in time travel shit. And we're talking about a show where Jack is five steps away from a portal but decides to turn back to help some villager. I'm used to the stupid shit.
Season started to turn to shit once Ashi reformed and became Jack's gf.
Her being his pseudo daughter wouldn't of changed anything like most people seething Jack got laid act like

The Guardian for example gets offed off screen. This one wasn't really their fault since they wanted to do a full 13 episode season but they only had the funds for 10.
Overall the hate is exaggerated in my opinion. I keep hearing that the game fixes the ending and does the story justice. Also that Josephine shows mad cleavage in it so I probably should try it one day.
I like the game but man they should've kept the theme song instead of that pseudo hip hop beat. Also its cool that yoo can travel through different points in the series. I loved fighting the Volcano King because that was my favourite episode

It has its moments.
People generally feel that the first three episodes were amazing and they set everyone's expectations high. When the rest of the episodes didn't reach their level, it resulted in widespread disappointment. And the ending in particular was written poorly, which fricks up the entire story in retrospect.
Samurai Jack S5 showed the first signs of what Primal S2 and UWE confirmed later: Genndy sucks at writing one long, cohesive storyarc that's intended to span across multiple episodes and reach a climax in a season finale. Subtle signs of his writing struggles can be noticed in the earlier episodes, but it looks like they always cascade and crash at the ending.
Genndy has excellent talent in several areas. He's good at establishing an aesthetic/mood, and he's got a lot of range as an artist. He tries out a lot of different things instead of getting stuck in one niche. These talents serve him well for writing short standalone stories. But unfortunately he's kind of terrible at writing a season-long storyarc.
It’ s more of the final episode being clearly rushed. They final act at least needed to be a two/three part big episode.
I’m not even against Jack deciding to save everyone by returning in the past, it just needed a scene with the friends he made in the future telling him it is the only way to save everyone, and later show the aftermat of Aku’s death right in the future, with the survivors happily accepting the whole time-reset in contrast of a creaming and desperated Aku.
That would’ve made the whole ending way better
