When you’re 60 years old, single, never married, have no kids, and you’re at his level of success, that’s how you know he’s still attending orgies, sex parties and hiring escorts and hookers to be around him.

Haven't seen it, but it sounds like a mistake. He looked for new ways to shoot action. He just shot a movie with world class drone pilots where the rest appeared to be secondary. Same as Soderbergh shooting a movie with just smartphones. Or Caspar Noe shooting a movie where you can't tell what the frick is going on.

I guess at least he's still trying to re-invent himself. He's not lying about what he is and the limitations that it brings with it.

Transformers suck. All of them. I watched the first of them recently after not seeing it for many years and it just isn't good. I was digging the film until that secret lab thing or whatever it was, after it the film started dragging hard, just felt like a chore.
But the rest of his filmography is interesting. The Rock is pretty good. Pain & Gain is straight up fantastic. Enjoyed Ambulance recently. I like Pearl Harbor in concept, but he couldn't make the soap opera element of it interesting. It's very cool aesthetically with it's 40s-50s americana look, but a slog to get through sadly.

The final battle in the first transformers is so bad. It’s a shame because it had a very strong first battle with the black helicopter.

He was always simply a genius, delivering kino after kino. Only gays with terminal irony poisoning like RLM or James Gunn ever had a problem with him, and yes, American flag gently flowing in the golsen rays of late afternoon sun is the most beautiful sight in the world.

Watching the Transformers behind the scenes footage really gave me an appreciation of him as an action director. Seeing all the practical effects, all the moving parts that have to take place to get the destruction to look as realistic as possible and the action scenes to look like they got weight to them. It was eye opening

We probably take for granted just how much goes into making truly good looking action. It's going to be yet another lost art in the current Hollywood competency crisis.

It's not good action though, filling the frame with a bunch of shit and swinging the camera around isn't good action

that was on spielberg's behalf, he pushed for more practical effects so computer work could be saved for transformers only as much as possible, which is why the cgi still hold sup
