I am sure we can all agree that Manhunter is Michael Mann's finest kino. But I have been wondering, how much of this is owed to Michael Mann and how much is owed to the source material? Has anybody read the novel, Red Dragon? Is the novel also great, or is is generic crime genre slop?
the source material is an arrangement of words, the adaption is images and audio
the credit is indeed Mann's
the 80's were the golden age of mass media.
Very dishonest cinematography
point out the lie
>I am sure we can all agree that Manhunter is Michael Mann's finest kino.
No we can't, that's clearly Thief. And you're a fucking retard.
Thief is close, his second best, with a power gap between Thief and Heat.
You have a god tier taste this is exactly my ranking
>I am sure we can all agree
No we can't
Manhunter doesn't deviate from the book one iota. Also Red Dragon was the better movie.
Mann's best movie is Heat.
Now fuck off.
>Red Dragon was the better movie
you're a fucking retard
you only like manhunter because of muh vaporwave music and neon 80s shtick. Aside from that the movies are beat for beat identical. Norton is the better Graham and you know it.
>vaporwave music
most intelligent manhunter-hater
>Also Red Dragon was the better movie.
Absurd. Shit taste.
I bet you like red wireframe A E S T H E T I C too. You're listening to Perturbator as you type this.
>red wireframe
What does that even mean?
>Perturbator
>Kent has a background as a guitarist in several black metal[3] bands. Since 2012, he has produced electronic music
huh?
the lady doth protest too much methinks
You're the one being aggressive and making accusations for some reason
>Red Dragon was the better movie
How's Israel treating you, Brett?
There's a subplot where Dolarhyde unironically eats the Red Dragon painting. That should tell you everything about how Mann's version fixed the source maRetard.
>Manhunter doesn't deviate from the book one iota.
Based retard.
>There's a subplot where Dolarhyde unironically eats the Red Dragon painting. That should tell you everything about how Mann's version fixed
That is from the book, retard. Dolarhyde eats the painting to regain control of himself.
>Dolarhyde unironically eats the Red Dragon painting
that was based and entirely in character
I heard he deviated from the source material a lot. That great shootout scene at the end was all him
the ending in the book is kind of weak and stupid
Graham gets his face knifed to pieces and his wife saves him by shooting Dolarhyde
I disagree, if there's one thing the Red Dragon novel/movie does better than Manhunter, it's the ending. Graham vs. Dolarhyde was kino.
the Red Dragon movie's ending was not that of the book. It was totally different.
I'm talking more so about the physical confrontation between Graham and Dolarhyde, Red Dragon's wasn't true to the book but it was at least something. Manhunter gets credit too for having Dolarhyde slash up Will's face.
I don't know why manhunter is such a golden cow on this board. It's not that remarkable of a movie at all. And I say that as a fan of Michael Mann. Collateral gets undue praise here too considering how poorly it's written.
Mann's kinos are immune to source material, he just wants a pathetic love story, a glass house, oceanfront and empty hours before the dawn.
>he just wants a pathetic love story, a glass house, oceanfront and empty hours before the dawn.
me too
the book is great. the movie is a favourite of mine although i wish mann could have pulled off some of the weirder aspects of the source material. He toned it down in some respects in order not to lose the audience.
Manhunter is obviously the better movie, but Red Dragon has the better ending, which I'm pretty sure is from the book.
>Micheal MANN
>MANhunter
What did he mean by this
I really liked black rain, I need more 80s international cop duo movies
STRONG AS I AM
I knew you would say this, and you're wrong.
You're wrong. Sarah Gadon's involvement assures that Ferrari will be the greatest movie that Mann has ever done.
His greatest kino is Miami Vice (2006)
sigh
You are appraising the woman, not the movie. You must recognize your inability to be an impartial judge of such matters.
"greatest car movie" is not the same as "finest Michael Mann kino"
How about we meet in the middle and say it is Michael Mann's finest car kino.
Greatest flying car movie lmao
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang can't compete
I watched the movie Red Dragon and it was great.
I prefer it to Silence of the Lambs. Haven't seen Manhunter or read the book.
Michael Mann's finest kino is Ferrari. He cast Sarah Gadon in that.
