She was the first person Marinette trusted with her secret of Ladybug and she was also the first person Marinette trusted with a lent Miraculous. Eventually even the one person Marinette trusted to be given a Miraculous permanently and who she turned to when she needed someone to cover for her when Marinette was going to leave. Most of these aren't exactly feats but she's done stuff and has had things going on with her witch is more than most characters in this series have.
Pretty much be Ladybug's second major ally after Chat Noir.

I don't know when you stopped watching, but, in season four, Marinette revealed to Alya that she's Ladybug.
Because of this, Alya sor of became ladybug's behind the scenes assistant, most importantly, helping her figure out the grimoir, and how it could be used to further Ladybug's fight against Hawkmoth, among other things.
Akya has become a very valuable ally/character.
Nino is definitely one of the most just there characters of the series. Though admittedly, a lot of the side characters became that more and more as the show went on. I get that he's supposed to be the fourth member, fifth when Chloe was around, of the early group so he's got legacy status but man I wish he had anything going on. It's telling where the only interesting thing he did in the series was that small arc where he thought cat Noir was cucking him and taking Alya.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the look either, Marinette's outfit is isn't any better honestly. Aside from the change in outfits it seems to be a general update to the style of the show, a lot speculation it's to be more in-line with the look of the movie. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
