    >blacks built America into the most powerful country in the world as slaves
    >but they aren't able to build shit on their own in Africa

      Anonymous

      >given free will
You either have it from birth, or it doesn't exist. Glad someone admits to the latter, though, instead of keeping up the lie.

      Anonymous

Their effectiveness as farming equipment was questionable at best, and was only profitable in very particular industries such as pre-industrial cotton, sugar cane, and tobacco production. The American South and Indian Raj protested the abolition of slavery because they didn't yet have the infrastructure to fully industrialize.

        Anonymous

Even then, the civil war wasn't even about the abolition of slavery - it was about the act of secession and state v federal power, which was partially fueled by the federal government and free states not wanting to extend slavery into the west. Abolition wasn't a real fear.
The only way it could have happened would be with a 3/4th Federal majority vote on a constitutional amendment, which wasn't possible. Most of the free states and the new western states were hard line segregationist, and were trying to ship Black people to Liberia, or otherwise to expell them from the north. There was also mass support for the Corwin Amendment by northern free states and Union slave state before the war, which made federal abolition illegal outside of the territories.
That's why one reason why alot of Confederates denied fighting for slavery. The war was over a state's right to self rule, the right of secession, and federalism vs antifederalism, not slavery per se.

          Anonymous

Not per se, no, but the South wasn't industrialized enough to financially weather the abolition of slavery either. Many saw it as a deliberate attempt on behalf of the North to immiserate the South and force dependence, but that's all wrapped up in that anti-fed thing you mentioned.

            Anonymous

But even then, that had nothing to do with slavery. The issue of the industrial north and the agricultural south goes back to the nullifaction crisis, and the Walker tariff (Georgia even mentions multiple tariffs in its ordinance of secession document). The tariffs put a massive tax on imported goods, including machinery. Southern cotton interested wanted industrialisation for their own respective states, but the north wasn't going to allow competition. So to enrich themselves while keeping southern states under their political thumb, they more or less banned the importation of machinery (Britian being the main source of the textile industrial machinery until after WWI), and ensured cotton would fuel northern textile mills.
In protest, John C. Calhoun brought up the issue of secession from the Union to ensure a better future for South Carolina. Andrew Jackson said that if they attempted secession, he would do worse to South Carolina than he did the Cherokee and Chickasaw.

    [...]

I don't know about the israelite statistics, but 0.35% is absolutely not correct.

If you're counting only the states that condoned slavery and excluded the minority population, then over 5% of white people in Southern states directly owned slaves. If you include their families, the people that benefited from that ownership, then over 30% of of the Southern white population was part of a unit that owned slaves.

So if you took the 30% and somehow dropped it to 0.35%, then your ethnic israelites figure is clearly a fabrication.

The role many minimum wage workers play in society is not meaningfully different from slaves. The technology is different, the wealth and the times, but not the role. I was saying this before woke politics became a big thing and they have to settle for shitty alternatives to My Views, because my views are Christian. I believe Jesus when he said the "poor will always be with you", but the condition of the slave equivalents can be improved perpetually

They also missed out on many of my cartooning ideas, they could have learned how to make the proud family better and truly good but they learn how to make it worse instead. "Loud and prideful" as the title says. What they get for rejecting me back in the late 00s when I just wanted to improve the world. The pathetic consequences of that decision are written all over their cartoons, and I love explaining how much their cartoons suck

Minimum wage increases have trivial effects on inflation

Some claim to worry that raising the minimum wage might exacerbate our current inflation problem. This is not a serious concern. Consider the Raise the Wage Act, which would raise the minimum wage to $15 in five steps by 2027 and would be indexed to growth in median wages thereafter. If every penny of this higher minimum wage fed directly into higher prices—that is, none of it was financed by higher productivity or lower profits—the move to $15 would create a one-time step-increase in the overall price level of less than 0.5%. Spread over five years, this implies an average boost to inflation of less than 0.1% per year, after which it would fade to near-zero. This is completely trivial. Over the past two years, inflation has run at a rate about 100 times faster than this.

The math on this is relatively straightforward. As part of our analysis of previous versions of the Raise the Wage Act (and other minimum wage increases), we estimate the increase in the total wage bill generated by the higher minimum wage. That is, we multiply the number of workers affected by raising the minimum wage from its current level to $15 and then we estimate the average increase in wages they receive. This includes an estimate of “spillover” effects on workers who earn a bit above the new value of the minimum wage, and we assume no job loss stemming from these increases—both of which make our estimate of the effect on the total wage bill larger than it would be otherwise.

          >The Math of this is relatively straightforward
          >Doesn't actually show any calculations at all about how this would impact anything at all.

You didn't even explain where the 0.5% price increase would come from. Arbitrary changes to the Minimum wage do absolutely nothing to actually increase the spending power of people.

Tell me, where will the costs offsetting this wage increase come from? Oh right, higher end costs or job losses.

"B-But we calculated it trust us" is a fricking shitty argument.

That's not supported by history or by any economic theory. Try again.

"we find prices grow by 0.36 percent for every 10 percent increase in the minimum wage."

So the entire study you are citing literally only uses one Government sourced group of statistics which is extremely small in terms of actual economic impact, and in fact the entire argument the paper makes hinges on using the CPI instead of using other metrics.

The CPI is literally worthless when measuring inflation, especially when we're not talking about the cost of food only.

Cost of food =/= the level of inflation you literal socialist mongoloid.

The CPI is basically an arbitrary number generated by the fricking Government using an absolutely tiny slice of consumer goods.

The CPI doesn't cover how local price changes work and don't even fricking interact with the major mechanic of inflation, AKA the buying power of the currency going down.

                >CPI is how inflation is measured

The CPI is based entirely on the goods people PURCHASE, and people usually begin purchasing less affordable things when hit with economic downturns like a recession, impacting the CPI to lower much slower than the actual costs.

One example is energy bills, Which is more accurate, the directly calculated rise in energy costs by the energy companies which is around 30% right now, or the CPI saying it rose by 0.8%?
