      >metamodern
      Isn't that just postmodernism?

Knowing or caring about what any of this shit means is such a giant red flag

No postmodern is between modern and metamodern, in other words metamodernism is what we have transitioned or started to transition into in the last 20 or so years

like the whole new sincerity thing *

Yes, but its also about the use of old tropes and cliches in a way that is self aware without being ironic (as in postmodernism). An example in music would be Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavilion. It's a metamodern take on modern, beach boys style pop music.

Top Gun, Avatar, etc - modern
Fight Club, No Country For Old Men, etc - postmodern
EEAAO, The Lobster, etc - metamodern
modernist movies are literally just propaganda.

        Avatar is postmodern.

It would have been postmodern if it came out in the 90's

NCFOM came out the same year and it’s irrelevant

Memento’s not a time traveling movie. And it is because it subverts the traditional structure

    >friend has me watch everything all the time whenever it is
    >He keeps looking at me for my reaction and I'm basically stone faced the entire time
    >At the end he tries to get me to talk about how deep it was and all I had to say was "a sumo wrestler shoved a dildo in his ass, shut the frick up" and it completely ruined the night.
I felt like an autistic moronic butthole afterwards, I was really mean to my friend when was just annoyed by the movie and him thinking it was good really pissed me off.

        What do you mean?
I didn't have an opinion of the movie until I watched it. I saw threads saying it was the best movie of the year but I didn't go through those threads, what efriends am I putting ahead of my real friend?
I was a dick to him, I apologized a few days later and got him taco bell. We're stIll friends, but man that movie was irritating.

it was a moronic movie and I cringed hard at each of the dozen times they brought up the gay hot dog finger universe. Felt good telling my fiancee "wow this is just like that Rick and Morty episode!" over and over again unironically throughout the whole fricking thing

tbh I'm tired of metamodern films. Wake me up then they start making anti-post-metahypermodern films

has anyone noticed that now Cinemaphile is just comprised of the lastest vids from youtube and threads from twitter in addition to coomerbait from autists ?

I would pay so much ($0) for a /yt/ board for youtube and other internet drama. Cinemaphile has become a random media board for sure.

was inevitable when you consider that the new generation joining the site have probably watched more "movie explained" style videos on youtube than they have actual movies. the kind of people who talk about "watching youtube" or "watching netflix" in their free time instead of discussing individual movies.

Would you rather discuss movies with pretentious millennial homosexuals, or TikTok trends with moronic zoomer Black folk?

          Anonymous

zoomers are way more pretentious since they seem incapable of enjoying anything as is. they need to immediately turn to youtube to do a "deep dive" into the supposed hidden meaning behind everything. of course plenty of millennial homosexuals do this too, and most of the videos are made by millennial homosexuals.

Yeah one of my old friends from highschool has been really getting into movies as if they were artistic masterpieces with deep hidden meanings. Its become quite annoying, but I watch everything at face value so maybe I'm partially to blame.

youtububer gay desperately tying to coin a new term. being meta is already a huge part of post-modern so this descriptor would be moronic. and in actual film/literary criticism the concept of post-post-modern is already a thing.
