      Tons of shit
      >Sex and the City

I actually feel bad because Sex and the City is a half decent show, Mad Men is just 'that 60s show' for most of it with poor writing and focus of the actual message.

It had a better message as well for most of it. The bawd had a horrible life, the feminist lawyer settled down and had kids, the preppy girl did end up with an ugly israelite and was kind've stupid, and the MC had to realize she couldn't pursue guys she thought she wanted and had to accept someone like her.

Absolute Kino. Personally, it never drops an episode. You watch it all and it feels like 3 hours have passed because the pacing is so intense and constant. Some don't like a few seasons, but I enjoyed all of it. Whereas I prefer other shows but some of the seasons had gripes with.

    Sopranos
    >better dialogue
    >better character development
    >better meaning and story

    The Wire
    >better plot lines
    >more characters, settings, and variation of entertainment
    >has the same overall subtext of the show as Sopranos but does a worse job--focuses too much on the externalities of a 'McNulty' than the intrinsic aspects, whereas Sopranos solely focuses on Tony.

Both are good shows. Anyone who doesn't like both is actually just lying to themselves.

Season 5 is better because it addresses the underlying character study of Jimmy McNulty which is actually the main subtext of the whole series. However, Simons and co were too good at creating the overt messages that people enjoy those so much and when they go away they complain about it.

Season 5 is now my favourite because I get what was trying to be achieved. It really does not make any real attempt to communicate it to you, so when most people hate the season I understand why. Short of it is it shows how Jimmy creates many of the problems in the world, and is a commentary about us as people, and Marlo is just a force of nature and represents how the more we try and control the more chaos there is. There will always be balance in nature. But Jimmy's hubris and ego, and desire to dissolve himself of his failures (marriage, college, career) and glorify himself by bringing in the big fish of stringer only created something far worse in Marlo. It's a pretty good, very accurate, and existential message more like, idk, Lovecraft, than it is Dickensian. But it's good and I enjoy it.

Fair enough. I think the writer's strength--Simons and the other guy--as former journalists was in 'reporting' and thus portraying the actual lives and settings of real world industries and classes, than it is in making more thoughtful character studies of McNulty, and it shows in the show. I just enjoy it personally, and it's the same reason I enjoy Sopranos, Justified, and hate Mad Men (Mad Men does such a shitty job of it from what I've seen).

Its just insanely boring. The Wire is just a crock of shit. The "scary stats" are for a tiny part of the "city". Its got like 3 millionish people and the real down down is now like 200,000 or so. Most people just rent a cheap apartment they use monday night to thrusday night for work to avoid 2 hours of traffic everyday.
