Easy Hans
Just banter
Same thing.
Adam Sandler.
Danny DeVito
Boring soulslop. From’s only good game is Sekiro.
I was surprised by how good the story in Armored Core 6 was.
based
it was shit
>ignores that they phoned in GRRM to do it
moron.
Yes, OP is a homosexual and a moron as usual
GRRM wrote a single page of "worldbuilding" which was just a couple of character relationships (that are the worst part of the game anyway). Everything good about Elden Ring is because of From's artistry.
>Why are the Japanese so much better than Hollywood at creating fantasy worlds?
Didn't Fat Frick create the world for this game?
>my son, fat frick
You're fricking moronic if you think this fat frick contributed anything other than the moronic names which are all the same.
>W-what if she says her name is Renna but but it's actually Ranni!
This is the extent of this hack's involvement.
as a souls game there really is no story other than small bits of lore that you can piece together from occasional item and weapons descriptions. but every souls game have been exactly like that. its unlikely he wrote anything for elden ring as the "story" is 100% the same in style as every souls game that came before it. theres really no trace of difference in the writing except for the clearly different style of names. its some weird french germanic latin hybrid that clearly didn't come from miyazaki. everything else felt entirely like miyazaki,
he gave a rough framework for the mythology and baseline world building at the beginning of development. he handed them a paper, they bought it, and his role in development was over. very little of his ideas made it into the final game.
Reddit: The Game
Elden Mid
Didnt George Martin write the story?
Yeah, he helped, it was absolute shitshow, absolutely everyone were insufferable homosexuals, so much so that most people went with End of Life ending.
To top it off, Martin named them in his signature fashion, so this is the first soulsborne game where people don't use the names and isntead call them the red one, the snake one, the axe one, the arms one, Malenia Blade of Miquella etc.
>Why are the Japanese so much better than Hollywood at creating fantasy worlds?
>99% of japshit fantasy is generic isekai garbage
The only good fantasy japs ever made was berserk
ah yes, wandering the lands of dick rape demons. truly peak fantasy writing
That was just one arc
I don't remember this at all from the manga
I do remember there being a demon possessed horse that wanted to rape a girl though
I think it's from potato Casca's dreams
Isekaishit makes for like less than 2% of all mango according to databases I doubt 99% of japanese fantasy is isekai.
Because they're not pozzed

When has Hollywood even attempted to create a fantasy world that's not based on existing material? You're right, compared to Hollywood even Elden Ring might be considered good.
legend or dark crystal?
>dark crysta
they killed it because it hit too close to home
shouldn't have based skeksis on israelites
Zack Snyder Rebel Moon sir.
but that's just the most recent Seven Samurai remake
Zack Sneeder needs to make a Zanzibart trilogy.
>When has Hollywood even attempted to create a fantasy world that's not based on existing material
Labyrinth
Legend
Krull
Dark Crystal
Deathstalker
Beastmaster
Dragonslayer
The Answer is: the 1980s
nta but which of these are still worth checking out
i need a kino injection
i've been meaning to watch excalibur and conan, too
Labyrinth
Legend
Krull
Dark Crystal
Deathstalker
Beastmaster
Dragonslayer
check those ones out.
gotcha anons i'll check em out
that 80s fantasy aesthetic and demeanor is soulful
They all have something to offer
>Labyrinth
Prime Jennifer Connelly, great world building. Henson company as its most unhinged. David Bowie is the villain and has great musical numbers. Fun dark fantasy that's still kid safe
>Legend
Big budget, Ridley Scott, All star cast. drags a little but it's gorgeous.
>Krull
Big budget, fun traditional fantasy. Great special effects for the era. Pairs well with Legend.
>Dark Crystal
incredible work from Henson. Fun dark fantasy that really brings its characters and world to life. Pairs well with Labyrinth.
>Deathstalker
B-tier conan knockoff. Fun for what it is.
>Beastmaster
Don Coscarelli directed, probably the best Conan knockoff of the early 80s. Fun and lighthearted fantasy adventure.
>Dragonslayer
Disney's attempt to start a fantasy franchise to challenge star wars. It's a great fantasy and the dragon looks incredible. GRRM says its the best dragon ever put to screen.
Also gotta mention Willow. It's a fricking great movie made by George Lucas and full of little people. Great effects and worldbuilding, the closest we got to LOTR onscreen before 2001.
Star Wars
looked like shit. never even played it.
The game peaks at the capital city. After that its just boring recolors of past enemies in a total grindfest, not worth finishing.
Preddy gudd up till then though.
I'll take recolors and repeat dungeons in an open world if it means I get a longer experience. that stuff is fine, but HOLY SHIT the ice stuff is a frickin chore. The difficulty spike is ridiculous. The fire giant is a fun boss, but god damn getting to him is a pain. The whole area is better to just skip. Not worth fighting anything.
>The fire giant is a fun boss
He was entertaining, but the whole mountain was a pain in the ass. Then I went to the stupid treehouse and it's just basic enemies, but jacked up on steroids to level #99 and placed in every conceviably annoying ambush location possible. Game stopped being fun and was just a chore at that point, it was obvious there wasn't going to be any new grand discoveries to be made like in the beginning of the game, just rehash of earlier stuff.
they should really overhaul that zone with the expansion. really if they don't tweak the core game significantly with the expansion, it'd be a major disappointment.
point of Souls is you're an outsider coming upon a world where its important events already occurred and caused a societal collapse. gameplay is the plot, but discoverable lore is the world's story. it's optional whether you want to piece together what led to this world state, and if you do so and try to logically solve the world's problems you usually reach the "true" ending.
Elden Slop mogs nothing and is a betrayal of everything From Software used to stand for
Rolling around on the ground like a moron?
yeah it was a nioh game. actually it wasn't as good as nioh since nioh already perfected being op for cheap bosses
>half finished game with moronic non-story and nonsensical characters in empty world
i know its bait, but fromdrones are fricking moronic. EA and Ubisoft annual rehashes more new content and value than a from game. You bought the same fricking game every year for the past decade. have a nice day.
>Western game dev detected
no one cares about your shitty writing, homosexual. japs mog you because you suck and your medium is a joke.
>Ubisoft
I understand why they get hate, but I enjoyed the RPG mechanics of AC Valhalla, it felt more refined than Odyssey, where Odyssey's map was just too big for it's own good and I hated the sailing.
I'll probably get AC: Red because I hear it's going to bring back that RPG style from Valhalla, thought I'm not impressed with the idea of the black samurai.
>b..but there was a black samurai!
So fricking what. If I want to play a Samurai I want to play as a Jap, not the one instance of token black character. Same as in any game in historical place, if it's a viking game, I want to play as a Scandinavian, if it's a Greek epic, I want to play as a Greek.
Make a fricking game about Zulu tribal warriors or some shit if you want to make a black protagonist. I'm shocked they haven't done an African game already, I can see Mansa Musa being a side character like what they did with Leonardo Da Vinci in AC II and Brotherhood, or Alexander Graham Bell in Syndicate.
Is there actually any story to this game?
Or is it just fight thing, get killed by thing, kill smaller things, go back kill thing that killed you, and go on?
I started playing it but lost interest because there doesn't seem to be a story line besides kill thing then kill next bigger thing.
The story is all super vague and you have to infer it, or piece it all together from the few snippets of dialogue you get from NPC's.
You visit libraries and there are books EVERYWHERE for some reason, but the MC is a illiterate moron apparently who can't read as there is never any attempt to show a history book, or a written account of what the frick is going on in this world.
Stick to the last of us kid. You can't handle fromsoft's revolutionary soulsian world building storytelling.
So I was right, there is no story and it's just fighting monsters for the sake of fighting monsters. Boring as frick.
It has more story than any game you've ever enjoyed. You just need to be smart enough to piece it together rather than getting spoonfed some troony shit like every other modern game.
elden ring doesnt have a story. the only ones that have semblence of story is demons souls and dark souls 1. the zanzibar meme is real for elden ring though. holy frick it doesnt even have a plot or story of any kind. what little pieces of shit they have contradicts itself all the time and moronic.
>getting this upset over your mid videogame
Sheesh lol
If you're not playing a game for a story, then you're only playing it because you have nothing else to do with your time. Which is sad.
So I was right, there is no story and it's just fighting monsters for the sake of fighting monsters. Boring as frick.
>If you're not playing a game for a story, then you're only playing it because you have nothing else to do with your time.
Kek you're actually serious. Stories in videogames are some of the most generic and cringe shit I've ever seen. You probably think Kojima is a master storyteller
>I don't like stories because it requires me to think
okay
>videogame stories are really thought provoking!
>wont name any because he's scared
Keep em coming lmao
There's no point, you'll whine about any example I give, even when you know I'm correct.
Which you already do, and yet here you are, still acting like a homosexual
Holy cope. You were better off just leaving the thread kek. Enjoy playing those games that really make you think!
You literally admit you lack the capacity to think and somehow that's a win in your book.
BIG YIKES.
I actually think sekiro is their best story and setting, the world was very magical and weird while still being weirdly grounded, and the characters and their interactions were pretty enjoyable. Fighting isshin at the end even when both of you didn't really want it to happen was kino
dmc3 mogs your favorite movie
I wouldn't call many AAA games thought provoking.
There's some indy games where maybe you could call them that, but i'd also say the gameplay was kind of shit idk, cost of low budget and being about the "message"
Planescape Torment was very well written.
I just don't get the creators intentional decision to have "no interactable books" to give the game backstory.
In the Elder scrolls game there are hundreds of in game books you can pick up, some are stupid shit like cookbook, jokebook, argonian erotica, but most of them give info on the historical background of the world.
It wouldn't be that hard for them to have done, even a dozen such in game manuscripts would have been huge.
Instead we get frickall, and you are just supposes to infer it all, and the fanboys think this is brilliant, because from fanboys think literally everything from does is brilliant.
Read the Item descriptions genius
You're 100% wrong but also
>caring about story
You're 100% right, but now the thread will devolve into screeching fanboys.
This opinion is only true if you are wilfully ignorant and transgender. The item descriptions build a truly sophisticated and bonechilling lore.
>bro look a distressed sad mysterious woman with an obnoxiously high pitched british voice
>bro look an insane old man with an obnoxiously elderly british voice
fromsoft worldbuilding in a nutshell
How hard is it to bullshit yourself into thinking this game has any type of story or plot.
You just wander around, level up a bunch, then kill various monsters. I bought this trash ass game because it was being marketed as some type of Skyrim Dark Souls hybrid, but all it is is open world Dark Souls
I'm 30+ hours into this piece of shit and dropped it entirely because literally nothing happens.
Fricking zoomers continue to baffle me
people will say the opposite of reality then their followers mindlessly repeat it.
If you don't enjoy the gameplay, it's not for you, and you should stick to those glorified visual novels you think can be classified as "video games".
Video games can be more than just jumping on goombas and stacking blocks boomer.
At their core, that's what they'll always be.
Zoomers claim they can have engaging stories, but that's only true if you're mentally deficient and haven't read any actual literature.
At best video game stories can be derived from actual literature, but they'll always be shallow in comparison, as your chosen audience is playing a game first and foremost, so you tailor the story around that.
For example, people seem to think the Red Dead series have good stories, but those are just derived from classic westerns, both movies and books.
I wouldn't know, I play games for the gameplay and therefore skip all cutscenes, as they add literally nothing towards the activity I'm trying to engage in, and in fact take away from it.
If I wanted to watch a movie, I'd watch a movie.
Get your moronic bullshit stories out of my games.
Absolute moron take. Please have a nice day and never tell any buglord devs your opinion. Theyll take your moron ass seriously.
>t. moron who has never read anything outside of speech bubbles
Name one good video game story that wouldn't be better as either a book or a movie.
Dishonest argument, literally every story is better as a book.
I accept your concession.
Now please stop pretending that your fanfic tier story can make up for shitty gameplay.
There's a reason why tetris is still being played 40 years after it came out, and triple A blockbuster titles need to be re-released every year.
Holy moron rambling
>because the puzzle game has no story nothing should
You are the definition of a midwit. A boisterous midwit.
Deus Ex and morrowind come to mind but I know youre a zoomer who has played neither.
maidens > naggers
I still just don't know what The Lands Between actually are. Like okay, we're in the Lands Between. Between what. What are the other places. What is the relation of all these places. I get its presumably doing like an Yggdrasil thing of there being multiple realms and the Lands Between are a sort of large hub world between them with its own inhabitants, but like that's hard to contextualize with 0 knowledge of what the branch worlds are like, whether they're subordinated to the lands between and the Golden Order extends to them, or are they their own thing entirely. If The Lands Between are just a sort of hub dimension between dimensions, how do they have their own "space" for cosmic entities to come from. Like the hub dimension is its own whole cosmos, but most of the most powerful entities in that cosmos don't actually come from the terrestrial land at its apparent centre.
we will never know because the dev was too fricking lazy to write the answer to that question on some stupid piece of equipment's item description.
the only PoC in ER is the Poopoo Peepee Man. that should say it all and does not need elaboration
I don't have a ps5 but I've been watching a lot of gameplay footage of ps5 on youtube and the graphics hardly look like an improvement from when I played my ps3. I'm watching Elden Ring gameplay right now and there's barely any different form the quality of Skyrim. Why is that?
that's simply not true, possibly need your eyes checked or you need to watch gameplay on a monitor that's larger than your phone screen.
oh well maybe I have bad eyesight, but not even the AI looks improved to me. Look at that moron NPC swinging his weapon on thin air at 33 seconds. I was considering buying a ps5 as I have completely missed out on the ps4 generation so started watching gameplay videos on youtube, was expecting to have my mind blown (similar to how mind blowing a ps3 game would be to someone who last played a ps1 game) but was underwhelmed.
yeah, Skyrim archery clearly mogs elden ring, fricking miss it man.
For all of its shit Skyrim does have some of the most satisfying bow combat of any game. Still no where perfect but I hadnt enjoyed using a bow in a game like that until I played rdr2.
Skyrim is one of the few games I can still play for hours. I mostly just mess around with mods and the console commands which is kind of more fun than the actual game.
With the right mods and good enough computer you can turn Skyrim into a near perfect RPG. Lmao I'm thinking about building a second PC just for Skyrim.
I thought it was pretty mid gameplay-wise, story was also stupid as hell family drama, the soundtrack is forgettable aside from 2-3 ambient tracks
I liked dark souls 1 and 3 more
It wasn’t good. Only a handful of people think it’s good. Everyone else pretending they liked it, beat it, set it down, and will never play it again. It’s the video game equivalent of a hipster art film.
I have a relative who says he has like 1k+ hours in the game
Can not possibly fathom putting that much time into 1 rpg
A very minority group that actually truly loved this game. I can’t imagine what this guy looks like, or how old he is.
I have 1,997.6 hours in skyrim...i'm not proud of it, obviously. I don't want to play anymore and go over the 2k mark.
Well Skyrim is a 15 year old game so thats not too bad. I can assure you I have wasted waaaay more than 2,000 hours of my time since now and then lmao
I've been addicted to drugs for years but honestly videogame addicts can sometimes be the most frustrating people on the planet. At least drug addicts can admit that they are killing themselves and secretly want to be better. Videogame addicts are the complete opposite and will have no issue abandoning friends and family over videogames.
I liked it when games were just something fun to do after school or work. Idk what all this other shit is about.
elden mid is the second worst game in the series behind ds2. most overrated game ever made. bloodborne blows it the frick out of the water in every aspect
Played it for about 30 minutes and I stopped. Shit's just boring as hell. I'm just not interested in fighting big monsters and shit.
Idk what happened. Did games get shitty or did I just grow up. I bought this PS5 over a year ago and I hardly ever turn it on. Its getting to the point I have to force myself to play a game just so I wont feel like I wasted all this money but the games are so fricking bad now. Bannerlord is the only thing I play on there even though I still play the original Mount and Blade on my PC more. But even then I haven't played a game in weeks and haven't beaten a game in over a decade except for The Last of Us but that game was easy as frick anyway and I just wanted to see the show (both are overrated af)
Play outer wilds if you want to play a game that rekindles your childhood love of vidya
I've had my eye on that at the PS5 store but I wasn't sure. Thanks for giving me a reason turn this guy on, anon
it is the only game that really "clicked" with me in the past 10 years
The game is fantastic, but it can get tedious at times due to a certain core mechanic.
My general, non-spoiler tips would be:
>remember you can move in 3 dimensions
>remember you can make time pass at a campfire
And honestly it's not the end of the world if you have to look some things up. I finished the game almost entirely spoiler-free but there was one particular challenge that I just gave in and googled because I didn't want to put hours into it.
it was the quantum tower
>soulsborne tards when they defeat lord oathbreaker and he says "ahhhh... forgive me for breaking my oath..."
Elden has such a superficial story. The quest givers don't even walk around. There is barely anything there unless you watch a four hour video about a fan deconstructing everything
>Koreans copy you and do it better
how come there are no PC torrents of this out, yet there are PS5 ones?
Never played Elden Ring so idk if it improved the issue but imo having you need to go through an entire level again to get to the boss fight that you are going to fail multiple times until you learn his move patterns is not good or hardcore. It's just padding the playthrough time with tedium.
When rolling through the level with a naked character is something normal people do and not just autistic speedrunners there is something wrong with the game.
They removed it completly
>Dude we have this like super deep backstory to everything but get this, we tell it with item descriptions!
Honestly, why even bother at that point? Most of the lore in Elden Ring is something people just being schizo-tier idiots
>Ahh yes, since the shirt of the bone lord was found in the abyssal swamp that must mean the lady of the shoe servicemen must have been his cousin and thats why we find her hat near the invisible castle of woe
It's not good storytelling, it's like your mum being on drugs, heavily sleep deprived and is trying to read out out of a fairy tale book. It's just an incoherent jumble of words
ER's setting is just a bunch of fantasy slop with no cohesion. You have medieval knights, feudal Japanese cavaliers and Nordic druids all occupying the same location. Its nonsensical.
It really is repetitive slop.
Open world was such a dogshit idea.
>2% of the game is unique content, 40% of the game is duplicates of that content, and the rest is empty space
there's genuinely less to do than there is in base dark souls 3.
yeah but that stormviel to renalla early part of the game was one of the best areas/bosses ive played in any souls game. i feel like they just gave up after that
they basically did the classic open world scam of only working on the demo area and doing almost nothing else (because 99.9% of the playtesting was at the start of the game)
The Witcher universe and Planescape are way better fantasy settings
>The Witcher
Poland is Hollywood now?
