More than continuity issues or out-of-character moments, but stories where you can clearly feel the whole thing is fundamentally wrong even as pieces are there.
We talked about this in the Beyond thread last night
>Neo-Gotham is mostly cleaned up from Bruce's era, the "war on the streets" is largely gone but mostly due to gentrification. If Gotham was defined by sociopathy and fear, Neo-Gotham is defined by corruption and apathy as Terry faces corporate conspiracies, Military Industrial Complex creations, and cutthroats who don't care about collateral damage to get to power.
>Tread lightly on legacy characters because they can quickly steal the entire show as Dick Grayson's involvement in Beechens run showed. No need for a fully fledged new Bat Family so we can focus on Terry and Bruce.
And then
>Jurgens immediately throws this all away and returns Gotham to the bloody war on the street with costumed psychopaths. Terry barely fights any corporate villains. Even goes as far as bringing Payback back but now it's his dad who went insane because his son died in prison or something.
>Throws multiple legacy characters in there including Damian Wayne, Jack Ryder, Dick Grayson, and resurrecting the Joker without any of the plot elements that made the movie good.

If it wasn't in the actual Beyond show or any other DCAU cartoon, it's not canon. Period.

The tie-in comics they did when Beyond aired were pretty faithful to the show. They just released a collection of them.

        Still not canon.

None of the Earth-12 ever tried to be canon and this one was meant to introduce Beyond to the main universe, which is likely why it feels like the writer just read the wiki.

Even the tie-in comics aren't canon.

FWIW the initial comic was written by a show writer

            Doesn't matter.

        Still not canon.

Easiest way to think about it:

DCAU: the main cartoons (BTAS, STAS, JLU, etc)
        Earth-12: An alternate DCAU

        They're separate universes

She's... fine, she's part of the "new" Bat family and dons her old costume as an ally now but it feels off at times.
On their relationship, Her and Terry date in one scene but it just happens sporadically. Dana shows up and learns he's Batman, he and Dana get back together, Melanie shows up and finds out he's Batman, she catches him kissing Melanie, they break up again, he gets with Melanie. Then she's just kinda there, her brother never shows up (only King, Ace, and a new Jack do) and her chemistry with Terry is kinda just gone because of that, she's sorta just his back-up whenever they ban Matt from being Robin which happens multiple times.
Her and Terry have a "morning after" scene that shows they fricked but they have that in the Higgins or Beechens run too I think.
So her character isn't butchered but just feels whittled down.

I guess that's really the best I could hope for.

        Thanks for the information, anon.

Given how bad this series is, do you think it's worth it for me to read if I just really want TerryxMelanie?

Anon, is that worth it to have to read the arc where they bring Joker back to life and he's in such "immediately post-New 52 era Jokerwank" mode that he doesn't even directly fight Terry, blabs on and on about recreating the Killing Joke with Matt, and nearly kills them all before conveniently dying of a heart attack
The Terry x Melanie is good but like I said, it feels forced. It helps that the story kinda turns Dana into an Amber-esque "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME!?" character at first. One interesting thing I forgot to mention is that an elderly Jack Ryder became her new father figure but again, they don't do much with it other than have him vouch for her having changed to Bruce when she wants to join the Bat Family. Jack was one of the better callbacks in the book though because for some reason they made him the "call Bruce out on his shit" guy outside of Dick with Matt as Robin
Also be warned the ship basically goes just kinda fades into the background once she's nice and settled into the Bat Family.

It's a cop out but it's been so long I can't remember details. I just know I was reading it every month and it was fine enough to get me to come back. I the arc with Damian and Terry interacting. I remember thinking the Joker stuff was a low point. It wasn't the best book ever I'd ruse to recommend to people but like I said I enjoyed it every month.

Really? Damian felt like he signaled issues the run was gonna have with an over reliance on throwbacks
