No one's hate-buying either. They just did a massive event that barely moved the needle, and Ultimate Spider-Man is already demolishing it in sales.

Yeah, Spider-Man has a high floor, because it’s a hot IP and there’s a lot of nostalgia for how stellar the stories used to be and how much Peter Parker still means to people.

But it was still only a floor. USM singlehandedly resurrected Ultimate as a brand and became Marvel’s biggest hit in years since House of X/Powers of X, maybe potentially bigger but we can never be totally sure. And the book is basically only showing an older Peter Parker with a stable home life, nothing more profound or high concept than that, like how Hickman basically redefined X-Men and Marvel from the ground up.

The potential for this kind of success was *always* there. It just Marvel excised everyone but the most die-hard, ride or die fans. Ultimate was what brought me back to a comic book shop for the first time in years.

Paul is handsome and hot to women, and he’s not a scrawny chinless beta self-insert like peter

No one buys it, anon, monthlies still exist because of the oddities of trademark law. They’re churned out to protect the gravy train of Walmart Spider-Man tchotchkes.

Blame the people who buy outrage bait. Artists and writers just need to eat, and this slop sells.

Collectors. People who feel the need to buy variant covers and complete runs.

Also, LCS are shipped comics by the Big2 who overship comics to inflate sales. And sometimes they force LCS to order more certain comics to get special variant covers.

spiderman is in a really bad shape now, they are trying to kill peter by making him worthless, weak and humiliating him constantly, so people stops seeing him as a hero in favor of the new original characters like Miles. truly a sad fate

You should see all the letters to the editors where the writers are blatantly trying to shill Paul as more popular than he is
