I could easily see them applying that theme to the red head by revealing she actually doesn't want to be a part of the whole kraken vs mermaid conflict despite being the latter and her arc will end with her making up with the squid girl.

There’s a psychological phenomenon behind this call affirmation
It’s like the placebo effect but the result is borderline supernatural
Such as the Tibetan monks setting themselves on fire in protest and not feeling any pain and proven to not have taken any sedatives
They mastered the state of mind to adjust their bodies, and a girl who said she had cancer for attention got it, so it’s not always 100% affirmed but it’s a possibility for an ugly person to change their appearance

I WOULD like to find the trailer's misleading

    >the mermaid asks the kraken if she's okay, and the context is being paraded as 'oh she's evil'
    >the only other mermaid we see are a statue of four with their teeth out, and that exact pose is used for the movie poster
    >speaking of the poster, the kraken on the upper left is completely absent from the trailers
    >when the mermaid gets all mean to the MC, things get distorted and weird, implying that maybe this is perceptions changing from panic attacks
    >kaiju mermaid yells out I'M A MERMAID RAAAGH, when Krakens are the only ones described as being able to go big

What if the Grandma's prejudices are coding the main character's perception of things, and while the mermaid IS manipulating everyone's emotions around her to be popular, she's actually not doing anything bigger than that so it's reviewed as mostly harmless, (maybe even have her turn off the charm and have the kraken teach her to make friends by being herself), and the grandma or that other kraken's gonna take the trident instead, change her shape and use it to false flag against the mermaids?

I mean, I doubt that's what is gonna happen, but the idea of 'good race/bad race' seems like something in and of itself that would be questioned by these sorts of movies.

Look at the grandma's eyes here, this is the picture that's being used for promotional material, that's the scene they chose to stop on, and she's just like 'yeah, discover your TRUE potential, stupid b***h'. Dreamworks is too good a studio to have trailers that just spoil the whole movie outright, and if we take things on face value, they basically DID that

      >begin the training montage
i big now i smash up building i'm also gonna let everyone know what i am to their face

        Also
        >Kaiju mermaid has glowing pupils of red instead of pink sclera with little white slit irises
        >has arm fins where none of the mermaids do in their monster forms, but all the krakens in the poster have all the time
Ruby even goes 'The mermaids?' like the idea that krakens protect against them is almost ludicrous to her, which doesn't make sense since 'for generations, krakens have protected the seas' so you'd think that generational knowledge would be impressed on Ruby from the start; the grandma goes, 'YES THE MERRRMAAAAIDS' like it's a big dramatic thing.

Grandma goes 'Humans are Stupid'. And then the mermaid's randomly attacking people with grandma's trident yelling to everyone I'M A MERMAID A MERMAID IS ATTACKING YOU

Would be cool to see, but I'm doubting it. Most movies are really simple, and kids movies more so. Statistically speaking we should expect nothing but good-race bad-race.

I'm also hedging my bets that it's much more simple than that too, but who knows?

The director wrote for The Croods, and those weren't awful. I mean it could easily still be a piece of shit, and you're not gonna see me shilling it on here, or watching it day one or anything, but looking through the credits, I'm a little more hopeful about this production.

Mermaids are not "always supposed to be evil". They've been portrayed as everything from omens, neutral, or lovers (I literally read the original Little Mermaid story a few hours ago, and they're all 3 in that). You seem to specifically be thinking of the sirens from the Odyssey.

Bird-sirens are fricking stupid and weren't ever even intended to have their songs be sexy or anything. If you aren't a complete purist-autist over the mythology you can see 100% that the image of seductive fish-tailed women are more archetypally powerful than stupid birds with human heads.

Also there are literally a few examples of ancient depictions of sirens as mermaids anyway. I think everyone knows it's an improvement the bird-bodied bullshit which is why it overtook it in cultural consciousness for 1500+ years.

i lost the weight by constantly telling myself what a disgusting piece of shit i was. it worked. if you coddle someone with a debilitating illness they themselves have the power to fix and change permanently, chances are the person will never get the drive and put in the work to change. at some point you have to be honest and give some tough love. as a former fatty i can personally attest to the experience of being fat and it fricking sucks and has zero positives. my whole life has been mostly shit but i can without a doubt say one of the only good things i ever did was lose the weight. people are individuals i understand but if you actually put in any amount of effort whatsoever losing weight is not hard. it can be time consuming and drawn out yes if done with diet and exercise but thats like 1-2 years of somewhat hard work for a permanently better quality of life if you make permanent lifestyle changes.

Actors have to play ranges of different characters and thus have to be a lot more careful about knowing what they eat, how they exercise and how it fall affects their body to be in the best shape for whatever they need to play.

Anyone actually fat enough to play the morbidly-obese frick in The Whale does not get out enough to be aware of themselves or observe the world enough to be a good actor.

    >krakens hate mermaids
    >but mermaids arent actually "mermaids"
    >they are sirens who stole the mermaids identity and enslaved/hid them
    >actual mermaids are c**ts but not murderous psychopaths
    >krakens have been punishing both groups indiscriminately for centuries
How likely is this twist to happen?

She's the only character that looks like a human. Every single person except for her looks like a creepy boneless noodle clay thing. It bothers me too much.

I don't care about the plot. Every single female monster in this movie was built for human men.
