>tfw I was too much of a brainlet to get into that game
What should it be called then
Standards? Named so for being the “standard” currency in a world of different species all trading amongst and between themselves in their own currencies. The gov established a “standard” to simplify transactions which could then be converted to whatever other currency was needed
I'm writing a space opera and the money in my series is called Ice-Zim because the lore for my stories are that a long time ago the galaxy fell under the rule of a great warrior named Zim (he's actually a psychic clone - that's a whole other part of the lore I won't get into because it's too long for posting) and his attempt to ascend to Godhood caused the God's to cover every planet in the galaxy in ice and though Zim managed to fight them off with the help of the Gods of Hell and the daemons that live there periodically the galaxy's planets get covered wholly in ice again so everyone learned to stock pile resources and the name of the basic universal trading currency evolved from simple post War In The Heavens language.
"Gimme a snifter of Floozer Juice," a character visiting a cantina might say, to which the flooz juicer would respond; "Chill my hand with some Ice-Zim first deep spacer."
Well what's your bright idea then ol mr timekeep? another standardized measure of time according to some distant star as a baseline? metric prefixes and different subdivisions for timing this time around? Do tell.
Sure, but we should at least have a universal standard time alongside that. like what we do with UTC at the moment, only for space happenings. It doesn't even have to be earth based, although it would make sense as a standard since it's our mother planet after all.
What I want to see more of in sci fi is new accents. It’s probably asking too much at that point but it makes sense that as humans spread to different planets different regions would develop their own accents. Maybe even their own new languages as they diverge from English.
What is this hairstyle called?
Arthur.
Berries and Cream
A Lord Fauntleroy. I'm not joking. Look it up.
Star Wars is set 'a long time ago' though, so it doesn't count.
Looks like some 60s shit.
Chigurh special
My least favourite Sci-fi trope. Just think of literally any other word.
What should it be called then
shinglewhoppers
Call them fucking Jonties for all I care. Anything to make it sound like an actual organic thing and not something imagined up for the setting.
What did Gibson call money in Neuromancer?
eddies, short for euro dollar, being one of the only surviving currencies
oops I meant new yen. eddies are from cyberpunk
>yen
what is that, some kind of cryptocurrency?
its the japanese yen, like ¥
Standard Work Compensation Units, SWCUs, sawcooz.

USD because space belongs to America.
goy points
Pix, because in a future society with no paper money, it’s just pixels on a screen. This could also be a more slangy term for it
Except they aren't even pixels, you don't have to render anything on a screen, they are just units of currency credited to your account.
it would be bits then because its bytes not pixels. pixels would be a slang term like paper or green for money
Digits
Thalers, crowns, sovereigns, marks. You know, the good names.
solari
Berries in One Piece
Redits
shekels[spoiler/]
>that pic
Most abstract merchant I've ever seen.

>sfi-fi movie
>years are called cycles
Keeping track of time in Earth years would be pointless and difficult in a setting with multiple colonised solar systems.
Well what's your bright idea then ol mr timekeep? another standardized measure of time according to some distant star as a baseline? metric prefixes and different subdivisions for timing this time around? Do tell.
Local time per planet with conversions when you travel.

>Sci Fi units of distance are kliks
>Sci Fi units of time are parsecs
But a klick is just a modern nickname for kilometer
isnt it just a military term because its shorter? like mikes
American soldiers are so retarded. Just call them kilos, everyone will know you are not talking about weight anyway.
Two syllables vs one
>movie set in current year
>currency is credit
Red Dwarf has some funny/inventive/parody future shit. The currency is dollarpounds:
https://annex.fandom.com/wiki/Dollarpound
> movie set in the future
> mayo crackers still exist
>mayo crackers
you really need to try harder with these.
>mayo crackers
This will never have as much sting as shitskin and you know it. lol
Zeni or Zenny is fine.
