what is stupid about a change of scenery to change a man's disposition?
you can make a man depressed by altering his surroundings so why would it not work in reverse

                Anonymous

I reject the notion of pilgrimage. Going to X landmark to grow.
Changing a men disposition doesn't mean he has to go to sacred mystic land.
It is EVERYBODY on rural/nature abundant areas, happy and deep spirited people? No. There's still miserable people.
Can THOSE people, change their disposition by going to a city area? Absolutely.
What I'm opposed to, is the notions that "City dwelling- to -nature" is the path for spiritual understanding/life changing. There's no evidence that "Nature- to -city dwelling" doesn't work too, and in fact, it does work.

I've achieved enlightenment by spending hours a day on Cinemaphile and pondering existence. Watch how I can conjure repeating digits with my mind.

Nah that guy was a idiot with a dudebro version of spirituality, basically thinks they can walk into the wilderness and be granted introspection and spiritual awakening.

Its a pursuit of the inner self, not an escape from the societal one, where the only change was the physical environment and what you have access to and not a single introspective thought.

The natural conclusion you get from Walden is that doing the thing HDT did is stupid and empty unless you're doing it together with someone else - a family, a tribe. Living alone in the nature is not a bliss - we humans are communicative beings, without it we falter as is evident by story.

You need a guide to achieve real spiritual awakening.

With the spread of materialism(both left and right are guilty of this) and the worship of God Money, a real spiritual master like Gurdjeff, to make an example, is all but impossible to find.

Read Ouspenski and hus copycat, Castaneda to kinda understand what you need for a spiritual awakening.

Also while Castaneda kinda makes it about a (mostly made up) shamanic tradition, Gurdjeff used to teach in cities etc., the place did not matter.

If you just go innawoods you're just in for a very bad time.

        You're welcome.
Btw, read the Ouspenskij books first, because his own books are kinda "out there" because like many other spiritual guides, he was a bit of a troll.
