It broke the basic plot structure of literally every single standalone MCU movie that came before it, they fricked with the basic formula out of a misguided sense of feminism and we ended up with an unlikable Mary Sue. A plot point that could so easily be resolved by the antagonist just chilling out for a second and having some patience, something an ancient race of people should definitely have.

Ego was a celestial who'd been alive for billions of years (or whatever) waiting for a son who shared his power, building a mountain of corpses of failed offspring, and then gives Quill 30 seconds to decide whether or not to join him. Billions of years of waiting, and he can't chill out for like a day. He should have said "You know what Peter, you go on ahead and live your live, I'll see you again in a century or two. Once everyone you've ever known or loved has died, maybe you'll see things my way." But no he got impatient and made an enemy out of the one being he's been waiting for his whole existence. A movie with an unknown character or actress bombing makes a lot more sense.
Blaming a flop on the sidekick is stupid, people will watch movies filled with unknowns if there's someone in it they like. Brie couldn't bring in the numbers she was supposed to; she was the big name lead.
Brie was an indie starlet before being in MCU, she never had a track record of carrying a movie or having a large, commercial following. Not sure why they thought putting her in a standalone movie would make money. Captain Marvel only made money because it was right after Infinity Wars, but few people enjoyed it.
Fair but she wasn't the problem in that movie, the script was. It broke the basic plot structure of literally every single standalone MCU movie that came before it, they fricked with the basic formula out of a misguided sense of feminism and we ended up with an unlikable Mary Sue. But not her fault.
Without the review bombing the movie is actually quite loved.

Kamala's show was the least watched on D+ out of them all. The character/actress have no draw.
Kamala and to a lesser extent Miles Morales are a product of nuMatvel that diehard fans didn't really care for.
In recent years Miles' popularity has been boosted by the well made Spider-Verse movie, but he's still ultimately playing second fiddle to Peter.
I know literal black people who dislike Miles and prefer Peter.
The plot was also garbage. I dropped it when the "villains" showed up. What was it, an ancient community of immortals trapped in another world, and she's their only way back, right? They've been waiting centuries or millennia or whatever, but as soon as she hesitates to go along with their plan for even a second they immediately try to force her, making an enemy out of her. A plot point that could so easily be resolved by the antagonist just chilling out for a second and having some patience, something an ancient race of people should definitely have.
Same reason I didn't like the plot of Guardians 2. Ego was a celestial who'd been alive for billions of years (or whatever) waiting for a son who shared his power, building a mountain of corpses of failed offspring, and then gives Quill 30 seconds to decide whether or not to join him. Billions of years of waiting, and he can't chill out for like a day. He should have said "You know what Peter, you go on ahead and live your live, I'll see you again in a century or two. Once everyone you've ever known or loved has died, maybe you'll see things my way." But no he got impatient and made an enemy out of the one being he's been waiting for his whole existence. Good plan.
