She’s the voice of Lara Croft in the newer Tomb Raiders. Hot as frick. Californication also has a phenomenal soundtrack and got me into Warren Zevon.

I still think him getting convicted over fricking her was kind of moronic.

It's kind of weird having a show where the protagonist continually gets worse but not in a corny way like breaking bad. It's a sort of slow breakdown and just gets more and more depressing.

Hank continually gets worse but everyone around him gets even worse. He is the worst of the bunch only in the first season. Everyone else becomes a far worse person as the show goes on.

him getting convicted wasn't fricking moronic. him getting probation instead of serious jail time and having to register as a sex offender was.

in real life any man who fricks a 16 yo girl whether they knew it or not is getting destroyed by the law.

Man this show is a weird one. I'd say the first 2 seasons are brilliant but starting from season 3 on, it becomes utter trash. And its not like it changed much after season 2 its the exact same show but somehow its just trash.

3 is kinda meh, then 4 is again great. And 5 and onwards is garbage.

Maybe its because the first two seasons are inspired by modern classic literature and somehow that just seeps through.

S2 is Great Gatsby obviously. Is season 1 something specific or just generally Bukowski type behavior?

e-girlta comes to mind with the plot. And Hank Bukowski indeed being the blueprint for Hank Moody, I had forgotten about that for a bit.

Bukowski is a degenerate whereas Hank always wanted a normal life but was lead on by his moronic would-be wife who doesn't know what she wants throughout the entire fricking show

Hank Moody is just a less degenerate, sanitized and likeable version of Hank Moody.

The show largely acknowledges that Hank gets away with all his shit because he’s super handsome and charming. Bukowski looked like this.

And even this, is a very charming picture of Bukowski. Cant even see the acne scars.

But yea Hank Moody is a hollywoodized version of Bukowski, which is somewhat ironic since they were trying to mock Hollywood/California to begin with.

Also Bukowski's Hollywood seems to have been a key component in the making of this show. Its a great read. switching between High Life and Low Life without skipping a beat. And many cameo's appearing throughout.

Duchovny said that Warren Zevon’s hard drinking lifestyle and his music about Los Angeles was a huge influence on the show as well.

What are some songs about LA. I'm not well versed when it comes to Warren Zevon.

I think it still remains watchable throughout, but yeah, it ran too long. There’s only so many times Hank can downward spiral yet again before it becomes repetitive and pointless. Like I said though, absolutely incredible soundtrack choices.

Hank is also a hypocrite most of the time. He claims to hate it in California and wants to go back to New York, but obviously secretly likes being a semi-famous L.A. pussy hound.

Its not secretly at all, he is open and states numerous times how he is corruptible by flattery. But that was all happenstance and not something he actively chased throughout the show
