my little sister is getting into world war 2. she wants to watch more movies about it. she already watched boy in the striped pajamas and liked it a lot (I resisted the urge to talk about its inaccuracy and instead just let her talk about the parts she liked).
What are some WW2 movies she could watch? Nothing too gory, violent, or misinforming please (yes I know this is a fool's errand).
shitty bait
Band of Brothers, der Hauptmann, saving Private Ryan, generation war, Schindlers list
Bridge over the river kwai, the great escape, Colditz series from the 70s
World at war series
Patton
Das Boot
that's really cute and quirky, what weird thing for a little girl to get interested in...
the movies probably made during or in the immediate aftermath of the war are more lighthearted and less violent.
Maybe Hogan's Heroes or something.
>the movies probably made during or in the immediate aftermath of the war are more lighthearted and less violent.
film noir was made as a response to coming home from the war to a changed society
I want to say Au Revoir Les Infants but that might have brief nudity in it.
I guessing Bedknobs And Broomsticks and similar are out on accuracy grounds. Same for comedy stuff like Operation Petticoat.
The Battle Of Britain is fairly innocuous, as is the original Midway. _Maybe_ Tora! Tora! Tora! as well. Haven't seen it in awhile though.
A Bridge Too Far I think isn't too bad. Might be a judgement call.
For series, Black Sheep Squadron
"A Matter of Life and Death" and "Colonel Blimp" Two British classics
>Black Sheep Squadron

>The film is incredibly powerful, and it’s easy to see why it’s been so popular. It’s a beautiful story of friendship and hope, in the midst of one of the darkest periods of human history.
>However, the film is not without its flaws. The biggest problem is that it’s incredibly manipulative. The film constantly tries to tug at your heartstrings, and it doesn’t always succeed.
>The other problem is that the film is very one-sided. It’s clear that the filmmakers have a very specific point of view, and they’re not interested in hearing any other side of the story.
Doug really railed that movie.
Battle of the Bulge, Kelly's Heroes, Dad's Army the Movie, The Longest Day, Enemy at the Gates, Apocalypse Now etc etc. It's such an oversaturated genre just pick your favourite and let her watch it. If she doesn't like it there are many more.
>Apocalypse Now
wrong war and also OP said nothing gory
I don't care what OP wants, I was listing films I like.
your welcome
Das Boot
Dunkirk
Stalingrad (1993), Der Untergang, Das Boot, Chuck and Sneed
Der ewige Jude
>Valiant
its a kids movie about ww2. but instead of humans, its birds as soldiers
>Molly: An American Girl on the Home Front
never seen it but my sister had one of these American girl dolls when she was young
>The Sound of Music
set during the rise of hitler, songs like my favorite things and do-re-mi are classics
>where eagles dare
it's like watching someone play call of duty. fast paced, nearly everyone that isn't the main characters die, it's not gory though. you just see people fall over.
>cross of iron
not kid friendly but shows a German perspective of the eastern front.
49th Parallel, interesting as a pre-Pearl Harbor production.
make her watch The Greatest Story Never Told
Europa: The Last Battle
The Longest Day
Jojo rabbit
all quiet on the western front
Chicken Run
World War II In Color, while not a movie, is a fantastic documentary series. I loved it when I was little and it still holds up today.
Fairly educational and safe for all ages.
It's emotional, and you can pretty much watch with anyone. Pacing is quick enough for moden times with multiple stories to follow and not a lot of violence. Also, it's pure, unfiltered kinographique.
Nothing gory? She’s probably all ready watching snuff videos and gang bangs. Grow up anon
