They were civilized. The Meso Native Americans had massive cities that were larger than Europe at that time.
      >Organized city centers
      >Monuments
      >Water Fountains
      >Market Places
      >Library
      >Gardens
      >Political Structure
      >Designated Social classes
      >Specialized jobs, they even had fricken street sweepers who kept the place clean. The Spanish themselves were even shocked at its beauty and cleanliness in contrast to Europe. Which had filthy cities at the time.

It was a proper city in every way.

No, its about a man struggling to survive against a decadent and morally bankrupt civilization. The ending is about the fall of that civilization.

It confuse Aztecs with Mayas, even thought Mayas had entered into similar degeneracy two or three centuries before the coming of the conquistadores. It's still a fine representation.

Its a fantastic film and only one of its kind in a sense. Since it actually represents the grand nature of Meso Natives who were the real kings of the Americas. In terms of power, societal structure, and scale. Most people associate Natives with the ones the puritans encountered in east coast. Who lived in simple huts and had rather primitive societies. The natives of Mexico and Central America where on another level and this film does a good job of showing that.

    Some issues film had:
    >The aztec city was way bigger and more beautifully decorated than what they showed. It was a colorful, bright, vibrant place.
    >Their was a way bigger population than what was shown. These cities would be packed by people. They were massive.
    >Also some of the Spaniard accounts were probably exaggerated since they wanted to justify the colonization and forced Catholicism.

Honestly surprised no other Hollywood film have been made about this era. Alot of interesting stuff happened during this time.

      It was Mayans, not Aztecs.
      >b-b-b-but I heard a leftist israelitetuber with a hateboner for Mel say those were Aztecs not Mayans
Nope, they were Mayans, it was historically accurate to the memoirs of Bernal Diaz, who was with Cortez when they landed on the Yucatán and encountered Mayans living in their jungle cities and sacrificing victims on top of their pyramids.

They didn't show another 2 hours of the indians getting rekt by the spaniards.

God, I just want a movie that shows Cortes and his men being the underdog conquerors of these savages

      >Doesnt realize that the Spanish struggled for years and lost several times until they cut a deal with neighboring natives to win against Aztecs.
      >Doesnt realize the Spanish only got control of Mexico years laters after disease spread and basically beat the Natives for them.

itt; people who don't realize that gibson was portraying the maya civilization as cosmopolitan (as a slur) decadent, wasteful, perverse and barbarous. The whole point of the movie was rural people good city people bad also subtext of the ending is arrival of christianity to bring civilization to a fallen land.

It's propaganda. and a great film.

No, you idiot. It's demonstrating the eventual decline of civilizations into savagery and barbarism, which is a real, factual phenomena that has happened plenty throughout history. Just because it hurts your feelings doesn't make it false and propaganda. Mel didn't at any point say their cities were always like that nor that any city that springs up will immediately be like that. Now shut the frick up.

      >The Jaguar scene was a farce and looked fake as frick.
Well, the jaguar was actually fake as frick.

The jaguar was real, Mel Gibson talked about it in a round table with oscar nominated directors or something. It was hooked up to a cable rig to stop it from killing anyone, but it was actually chasing someone.
