What is this in reference to specifically?

Well, I should probably tell you. That's the least I could do...

Ryan in reality is a scrawny bald dude and Raine is his self insert. The black guy is the artist he's worked with for decades at this point. The joke is that the artist is giving him what he needs to live out his fantasies.

Weird, just last night I was thinking about how I haven't heard of Ryan Sohmer in years.

If this came out today the election tourist trash that infests this site would praise him
It's really not that different from the unfunny political webcomics they shill

I liked how Kevin Bolk roasted a lot of webcomic assholes. Here's Sohmer's.

Did he do Chris Chan? How much do you have of these?

These are part of a series he did called 10 Things I Hate about Webcomics. He did 10 of them but there's only these two and one about Photoshop abuse. I think the others are either lost or just not on his deviantart account. This one is based on Dobson.

So he doesn’t even do his own art? That’s hilariously pathetic, wow. Hope the artist has moved on to better things.

The comic has done well over the years. That's how Sohmer was able to start two other webcomics, Looking 4 Group and Gutters. The latter has actual comic writers doing guest comics. If the pay is good and the job is fun or easy enough a lot of artists will have no trouble sticking with it for so long. Sohmer was pretty big in the webcomic community but always wanted to be a comic writer for the Big 2, especially Marvel and especially writing for Deadpool. He did some campaign thing for it and had his fans pester Marvel writers and editors to give him the job. I forget who but when asked to give Sohmer a job at a Marvel convention panel, someone famously replied "who?" I think the Dr. McNinja guy got to write Deadpool.

Good for Dr. McNinja. That’s a bit pathetic as well, pestering others just to be a part of the big two. Is there more examples of this sniveling behavior.

Poor fucking guy, he sounds halfway competent but let his ego and consoomer mindset destroy him just like the rest of these

Don't feel too bad for him. There was also a Kickstarter scam for a show based on the comic. I don't know what ultimately came out of it but apparently he didn't give what he promised and pocketed a lot of the money. He had an animation team do some stuff and even did a trailer and couple of small episodes for Ctrl Alt Del.

And then there was that thing with The Dating Guy. Some Canadian show that Sohmer apparently wrote for that was supposed to be based on his comic but something happened and he left the project and the studio changed the names and characters and made it themselves. It's been a long ass time so I may have some details wrong but that should be mostly right.

I guess I shouldn’t. Shitty people tend to be shitty show runners too. That kind of thing is a team effort. pic related

If I remember correctly he tried shopping his pilot for LICD around to a couple different Canadian studios and Teletoon decided to make their own version, The Dating Guy which seemed a lot of LICD but without Sohmer's involvement

And he got pissed and claimed they ripped him off (which they probably did). But they made enough changes that he couldn't actually do anything about it because the premise of LICD was just too generic

Hating bad web comics used to be so fun. It's just not the same anymore.

It used to be fun taking down an ego or two. Now that even bigger egos run the world, this stuff is small potatoes. Is that what you mean?
