It's entire premise is stupid and sets up temporal paradoxes and any aspect it seems more high-brow are all shallow existential aspects like "can a machine feel, can it be a father figure?" is hamfisted emotional manipulation.
How did the T-1000 go back in time when it’s entirely made of metal? Why does it keep turning into the one person the targets know to run away from? Why can’t Cameron keep track of which year in the mid nineties it’s meant to be set, with different scenes contradicting each other? It’s great fun but nowhere near as well constructed or written as the first.
I can understand people liking the slower and darker horror movie tone of Alien over the action and guns in Aliens but they’re still wrong, Aliens is the superior film.

I think he had vision. Literally Alien started out as a cheap movie and then became a film phenomenon.The same thing happened with blade runner although at this point Scott already had some reputation thanks to alien.
It seems to me that Ridley is someone who knows how to recognize talent and put it all together. He worked with the best talent of his time like Vangelis.
What I also believe is that he can't do much on his own, he's more like a talent manager. He needs good scripts, good directors of photography, music, etc. Also directors do not improve with age and he is constantly making films as if they were commercials.He doesn't like dialogue either, just like Dennis, which says a lot about him.
